Chapter 28. The Baby Is Born
Annie's POV
Thankfully I was the first one to wake up the next morning. I was glad to be first because who knows if Nicole and her stupid friends would've done something to me in my sleep.
I sat on the sleeping bag that I had slept in and went on my phone for about a half hour before I heard someone rustling.
"Hey, Annie," Hayley greeted sleepily as she came over.
"Hey." I replied with a small smile as she put her head on my shoulder.
"Annie? Hayley?" I looked up to see Brennan was now awake.
"That's us." I said to him.
"Well, hey." Brennan awkwardly smiled and brushed his hair back. "Did you guys sleep well?"
"I did." Hayley answered with a smile.
I shrugged. "To be honest I was afraid your evil girlfriend and her army would come terrorize me in my sleep, but besides that I slept fine."
"She's not evil." Brennan said.
"Whatever you say." I said back.
We all sat there in an awkward silence for a minute before Hayley sighed.
"This is awkward, I can feel the tension," Hayley said as she got up. "I'm going to the bathroom, I'll be back."
Brennan and I were now the only two people in the room awake. We sat across from each other and awkwardly stared down at our feet and not at each other.
"I'm sorry about Nicole," Brennan broke the ice as he looked up at me. "I didn't know she was going to be mean to you, she's usually nice to my friends."
"It's because I'm not one of your friends," I answered. "I'm your ex in her eyes."
"You're my best friend in my eyes." Brennan said with a small smile. "Again I'm sorry for the way things ended and how I lost touch with you after...I was a jerk."
"Yeah, you were." I laughed as Brennan glared at me. "But I still think of you as one of my best friends too."
"So...we're officially friends again?" He asked as he got closer and held out his hand.
I nodded. "Yeah, we're best friends again." Then I shook his hand, but he tripped and fell on top of me.
"Oh, sorry about that." He said once he realized how close our faces were. I started getting flash backs from last night, so I just awkwardly coughed and sat up.
"It's fine." I said. "Let's just forget this and last night ever happened, yeah?"
Brennan nodded and looked down. "Yeah. Okay."
A few minutes later, Hayley had returned and Nicole and her stupid army woke up.
"Good morning babe." Nicole said to Brennan as she got up. I mentally rolled my eyes as she came over and sat next to him.
"Hey Nicole." Brennan greeted back in an almost dull tone. Nicole gave him a weird look before she leaned in and kissed his cheek.
"Good morning Anna." Liz, Samantha, and Tina said in unison.
"Good morning Lame, Stupid, and Trouble." I said back with a small laugh.
They rolled their eyes at me before Tina said, "Wow, Trouble? How creative."
"I can be even more creative." I said with a wink.
"Bring it on, Donkey Kong." Tina sneered.
I couldn't help but snicker. "Donkey Kong? Is that the best you've got?"
"Girls, enough." Nicole sighed. "Tina, she isn't worth it."
"You're right. She isn't." Tina said as she glared at me.
I couldn't help but smirk at both of them, and I could've sworn I saw Brennan slightly smile but he quickly wiped it off his face when Nicole looked at him.
"Anyway, what's for breakfast Nikki?" Samantha asked.
"My dad went to go pick up some Dunkin Donuts." Nicole replied. "We each get two donuts."
"Sweet!" Liz exclaimed.
A few minutes later, we were called upstairs to eat our breakfast. I followed Hayley up to the kitchen and waited in line for the donuts.
When I got to Nicole and the donuts, she slammed the box shut and smirked. "Sorry, there's only enough for us, not you."
"Nicole." Brennan said in an annoyed tone as he looked over at her.
"What? It's true!" She threw her hands up. "I promised everyone else a donut; Anna didn't even ask for one."
"First of all, it's Annie," I began, clearly annoyed. "And second of all, you didn't even mention breakfast plans!"
"Oops, guess I forgot about you." Nicole said with a shrug.
I scoffed and shook my head. "You shady b—"
"Annie." Hayley looked at me. "You can have one of mine."
I glared at Nicole who just smirked as I walked away.
"She's such a—"
"I know." Hayley said calmly as she handed me one of her donuts.
"God, I just want an excuse to get out of here." I groaned in annoyance as I took a bite out of my donut.
A couple seconds later, Hayley's phone rang. "It's Dad, I'll be back." She got up and ran into another room.
About a minute later she ran back in panicking as she screamed my name.
"Hayley? What's wrong?" I asked as she came over hyperventilating.
"Skylar...is...in the...hospital." She said in between gasps.
"Wait what?" I asked as I hugged her.
"What's wrong?" Brennan asked as he came over too.
"She's...the baby...sick..." Hayley stammered.
"Let's go get dressed and leave." I said as I began to go back downstairs.
As Hayley ran into the bathroom to get dressed, I started searching through my bag for my clothes, but I couldn't find them.
"Aw, did Anna go crazy and lose her stuff?" Nicole teased from the staircase.
"Tell me where my clothes are, now." I said angrily as I stood in front of her.
"Me? I don't know where they are." Nicole said with a slight smirk.
"I hate you so much." I said as I shook my head.
"Likewise." Nicole said as she made her way back upstairs.
"Annie? What's wrong?" Brennan asked as he came downstairs.
"Nicole got rid of my clothes and now I have nothing to wear." I sighed.
"You can borrow one of my sweatshirts, if you want." Brennan said as he dug into his bag.
"I guess I could." I shrugged as he handed me one. "Thank you, Brennan. I appreciate it."
"Anytime. That's what friends are for, right?" He replied.
I nodded. "Yeah, I guess so."
I waited for Hayley and then I changed into Brennan's sweatshirt. Once I put it on, I realized it was one he bought at Universal Studios when we went after we started dating. I smiled at the memory, but then I realized that Hayley and I needed to go.
"I hope Skylar will be okay." Hayley cried as we got in the car.
"Me too." I replied as I pulled out of Nicole's driveway and drove away.

"Dad!" Hayley ran into the emergency room waiting area and hugged Dad.
"Hey there Hayley." Dad forced a smile on his face before putting Hayley down.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"Skylar was going into labor when they realized something was wrong with the baby," Dad began. "She gave birth a few minutes after I called Hayley and the baby couldn't breathe."
Hayley gasped and covered her mouth. "Oh no!"
"Skylar also lost a lot of blood, so she's not feeling too great. She's not ready for visitors yet." Dad added.
"Will they be okay?" I asked.
Dad shrugged softly. "I don't know." He replied, his voice cracking.
I wrapped my arms around him before we sat in the chairs and waited for a doctor to come and tell us about Skylar and the baby.
About a half hour later, a doctor came and found us.
"Are you related to Skylar LeBlanc?" The doctor asked Dad.
"Yes, I'm her husband," Dad got out of his seat. "How is she and the baby?"
"Skylar will be okay, she's still recovering and she was also a little dehydrated, so her IV is giving her fluids to help rehydrate," the doctor explained. "As for the baby, he's still not breathing on his own and even with the oxygen he's still struggling. But we're doing the best we can to help."
"Thank you." Dad said. "Will you ask Skylar if she wants visitors now?"
"Actually, she told me to tell you that she is ready for visitors." The doctor replied before walking away.
"Come on, girls, let's go see Skylar." Dad said. Hayley took his hand and she took mine, too, and we all walked to Skylar's room together.
"Hey everyone." Skylar said weakly when we walked in.
"Skylar!" Hayley ran over and hugged her. "Are you okay?"
"I'll be fine, sweetheart," Skylar replied as I hugged her. "How about you two? How was the sleepover?"
"I hope to never see their ugly faces again." I answered.
"Annie, that's not nice." Dad said.
"But it is kind of true." Hayley added on to what I said. Skylar let out a small laugh.
"So what do we do?" I asked Dad as he held Skylar's hand.
"We wait for news on the baby. But if you two want to go home, you can." Dad answered.
"I want to stay for a while." Hayley stated as she sat in a chair.
"I will too." I agreed.
"Thank you, girls." Skylar smiled at us. "Your brother and I are glad to hear that."

A couple hours later, the doctor came back in and told us that we could go see the baby.
"Have you seen him since you gave birth?" Hayley asked Skylar as Dad pushed her in a wheelchair down the hall.
Skylar shook her head. "I haven't even gotten to hold him yet; once he was born, the doctors and nurses immediately took him away to get oxygen."
"I'm so sorry, Skylar." I said as I held her hand.
"It's okay. We're all going to see him now." Skylar gave me a small smile before the doctor opened the door to the NICU.
"He's over here." The doctor lead us over to a plastic overhead that covered the baby. He had oxygen tubes in his nose and he was fidgeting around and wiggling his fingers.
"Oh my god, he's adorable!" Hayley exclaimed.
"He's incredible." I said in awe as Hayley and I stared at him.
"He's precious." Skylar said as she put her fingers through the small hole on the side of the plastic and gently touched his hand. The baby's little fingers curled around Skylar's finger, and she smiled.
"Welcome to the world, son." Dad said as he looked down at him.
"Have you though of a name for him yet?" Hayley asked.
Skylar and Dad exchanged a look before Skylar said, "His name is Owen Caleb LeBlanc."
Hearing his name brought a tear to my eye. I knew that both Owen and Caleb meant faithful, and they named him after Caleb.
"Hi Owen!" Hayley said as she looked down at him.
"Hey Owen, welcome to the world." I said as well to the small baby.
"When can I hold him?" Skylar asked the doctor.
"Maybe in a couple days, when we're sure he can handle being off the oxygen tube for a few minutes." The doctor explained.
Skylar nodded. "Okay. It was so good to see you, Owen." Skylar touch his hand one more time before she pulled hers out.
"Bye, Owen. See you soon." Hayley waved.
"See you soon, Owen. Stay strong." I said before we walked out of the room.
And that's when I realized that we had faith in him, which is another reason why his name is Owen; because he's faithful, and he'll never lose faith.

A/N: welp this chapter was a little sad, oopsie.
I was working on this draft a couple days ago or so, but I went to my friend's birthday party yesterday and ended up spending the night and she locked me in her closet and then we watched the titanic and cried so 🤷♀️ it was a pretty lit day
And then today I was swamped with like, no lie, 10 homework assignments and I'm about to start the second week of school tomorrow; uGH.
So yeah how are you? How have you all been? And what did you think of this chapter? How do you feel about Nicole and her gang now? Do you hate them even more? How do you feel about Annie and Brennan being friends again? Was it a mistake?
And lastly, what do you think about the origin of Owen's name? Did it bring a tear to your eye? And sorry for all the questions, I'm not trying to quiz you 😂
I hope you enjoyed this chapter! If so please don't forget to vote comment and share because I love your feedback!
Thanks, until next time ;)
