Chapter 13. Operation: Memory
Brennan's POV
I've been crying a lot lately, which is something I didn't really want to talk about.
It just frustrates me how Annie can't remember anything; how can her health just betray her like that? Make her forget 8 years of her life?
It sucked, because I just wanted to hug her and kiss her, but she doesn't remember anything about us.
And that was when my 2 AM plan was formed.
I grabbed a notebook and began writing down everything I would do to help bring Annie's memories back, and I called it Operation: Memory.
Hopefully this'll work.

Unfortunately, my plan started backfiring immediately.
I got busy the past few days with water polo and haven't had any time to see Annie. And then I was free, and she and her family traveled to LA for a vacation.
I guess Operation: Memory is going to have to wait.

Annie's POV
This was exciting, we (my mom, Hayley, and I) were going to LA!
I don't remember going, so I was pretty excited.
Hayley helped me pack some things for the trip and we left early Monday morning.
When we got on the plane, I suddenly felt really nervous. It must have been a usual thing, because Hayley quickly grabbed my hand as we lifted off.
"Thanks, Hay." I said with a smile once we were settled in the air.
"No problem. You've always been a bit scared of planes." Hayley replied before putting on her headphones and turning on her iPad.
I took a nap on the plane and awoke a few hours later once we landed in LA.
Mom got us a rental car and drove us over to our hotel, which was pretty nice.
"Hey, girls, wanna go to the pool?" Mom asked once we arrived at the hotel.
"Yes!" Hayley and I exclaimed.
"Alright, get changed, we'll leave in ten." Mom said.
I quickly changed into my blue bathing suit and Hayley changed into a pink one. Once we made sure we had all our stuff (and sunscreen on of course), we headed out to the pool.
Mom stayed in a chair reading a magazine as Hayley swam in the pool and met some other girls her age. I just sat on the edge of the pool and let my legs dangle in the water.
"Hey," I looked up to see a boy around my age sit next to me. He had brown hair that kind spiked up on his head and he had soft brown eyes. He was kind of cute.
"Um, hi. Do I know you..?" I asked politely as he sat next to me.
He shook his head. "No, but our parents wanted us to meet." He laughed and stuck out his hand. "I'm Hayden Summerall."
Then that name clicked in my brain; Mom said she was coming to meet a friend here and he had a son around my age that wanted to meet us, and their last name was Summerall.
"Oh! Yes, hi! I'm Annie." I said as I shook his hand.
"It's great to finally meet you, Annie. I've heard so much about you." Hayden said with a smile.
"Have you?" I asked.
Hayden nodded. "I've heard that you're a gymnast, you have a younger sister named Hayley, you're in a YouTube channel, Bratayley—"
"Slow down!" I laughed. "I also have cancer which gave me a coma which made me forget eight years of my life, so I'm not too familiar with all the stuff."
"Really? Oh my gosh I'm sorry!" Hayden said sincerely as he hugged me.
"Thanks. I think we're going to be great friends." I said as he pulled away.
Hayden winked. "Friends?" Then he pushed me into the pool.
I shrieked and then glared at him as he laughed. "That wasn't funny." I said as I crossed my arms over my chest.
"It kinda was." Hayden said in between laughs.
"Then so's this!" I said as I pulled him by the leg.
We both ended up laughing as he fell in the pool. Then he wrapped his arms around my waist and twirled me around, making me laugh harder.
"I see you've met Hayden." I looked up to see Mom standing at the edge of the pool standing next to who I assume is Hayden's father.
"Yeah." Hayden and I said together as he let me go.
"Annie, this is Hayden's dad." Mom said as she pointed to him. "My boyfriend."
My eyes grew wide. "You're who know?"
Last week, I had just found out that my parents had gotten a divorce after Caleb died, which made me sad. But I got to know Skylar a little better and she seems nice, and now I have to deal with my mom and her new boyfriend?
"Yes, he's my boyfriend." Mom said with a smile as they hugged.
I felt myself grow a little dizzy. "I need to use the bathroom." I shakily got out of the pool and headed to the bathroom.
As I was walking in and not paying attention, I slipped on a puddle and fell on my leg, letting out a welp.
"Annie!" The door opened and Hayden rushed in, helping me up and sat us on a bench. "Are you okay?"
I nodded, but I wasn't mentally; I started crying. It was hard to move on.
"Well, your leg looks okay." Hayden said before I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him.
"Th-thanks." I muttered.
"Sure." He replied quietly.
We stayed there on the bench like that for a few minutes, hugging and enjoying one another's company; it felt...really nice.
"Hayden?" I asked.
"Hm?" He asked back, locking eyes with me.
"I know we literally just met, but...I like you." I said.
Hayden grinned. "I know we literally just met, but I like you too, Annie."
I could feel inside that this was wrong; wasn't I dating Brennan?
But at the moment, I didn't care. So, Hayden and I continued hanging out, knowing that we both now liked each other.
But what would Brenna have to say about this?
