Chapter 11. She's Awake

Brennan's POV

It's been 3 weeks since Annie went into her coma.

3 weeks of me riding my bike after school to the hospital, holding Annie's cold and pale hand and telling her how much I missed her and telling her about my day.

"The fans are wondering where you are," I said to Annie one cold and rainy day. "Your family and friends have been saying on camera that you went to some last minute planned camp for cancer patients, and that you were learning how to camp and ride horses. Some of the fans don't buy it, though, and are demanding for answers."

I did all that for 3 weeks before giving up; she couldn't talk to me, and who knows if she even heard me?

To this exact day, it has been a month of Annie in a coma.

I tried to push those sad thoughts out of my mind though and decided to hang out with some of my water polo friends at Sky Zone.

That was kind of a bad decision because Sky Zone gave me too many memories of when Annie, Caleb, Hayley, Katie, and I would come here and all hang out. The girls would practice tumbling and try to teach us; I wasn't very good, but Caleb could do a few back flips and front tucks.

Annie, Katie, and Hayley would critique us on how we tumbled, like we needed to point our toes or tuck our knees in tighter and such. Those were fun times.

"Guys, let's go play some volleyball!" Annie shouted one day at Sky Zone as she pointed to one of the trampolines.

We headed over and decided to play a game of volleyball. It was kind of early, so there weren't a lot of people there and no one was playing volleyball, so we had the area to ourselves.

Hayley didn't want to play that day, so she decided to be on watch and keep score.

Caleb and I were our own team while Annie and Katie were the other. We would constantly tease each other about saying we were the better team and that we'd win.

Long story short, Caleb kept getting hit in the face with the volleyball and we eventually lost the game.

"We won! We won!" Annie and Katie would shout in a sing-song tone.

"You guys owe us some food as being the losers!" Annie said while poking me.

Caleb and I groaned but agreed. We went across the street to a milkshake place and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon together; I miss those days, a lot.

"Brennan! Heads up!" I was awoken out of my day dream to see a volleyball flying towards my face.

The ball hit my forehead and I went down with it.

"Brennan! Bro, you okay?" One of my friends asked as he bounced over to me.

I nodded and threw the ball off of me, feeling a bruise forming on my forehead. "I'm fine."

My friends helped me up and didn't look convinced at my answer, but they just shrugged it off and kept playing.

After our game of volleyball, we decided to take a break and relax for a while. As I sat at a table, my phone began to buzz.

"You should answer that, could be important." One of my friends said.

I excused myself and walked a few feet away, seeing it was Ms. Katie calling me.

"Hello?" I asked into the phone.

"Brennan, hi! Am I interrupting something?" She asked, sounding a little frantic yet excited.

"Um, no, why? Is everything okay?" I asked, getting a little worried.

Even though I couldn't see her, I could tell Ms. Katie was grinning as she said, "She's awake."

I immediately called my mom after hanging up with Ms. Katie. Mom came and got me a few minutes later, and my friends were understanding of why I wanted to leave so soon.

Mom dropped me off at the hospital entrance, and I ran into the hospital and to Annie's room.

When I got inside, I saw the LeBlancs and Skylar in her room. And sure enough, Annie was sitting up in her bed staring at the TV.

"Jules!" I exclaimed as I ran in. I wrapped my arms around her, expecting her to do the same, but she didn't.

"Annie? What's wrong?" I asked as I pulled away. Annie had a confused and scared look on her face.

"W-who are you?" She asked, and I felt my heart sink. "Is he one of Caleb's friends? And where is Caleb, anyway?"

I felt tears sting my eyes. I looked over at Ms. Katie who was giving me an apologetic look.

"She doesn't remember the last eight years of her life." Ms. Katie said through her tears. "She doesn't remember meeting you."

A/N: I was gonna put that scene of Brennan going to the hospital in the next chapter but I needed a cliffhanger whOOPS.

You're upset aren't you? Again whOOPS.

Hope you enjoyed this chapter though! If so don't forget to vote comment and share because I love your feedback!

Thanks, until next time ;)
