Marinette heard a faint voice, as well as seeing the opened window through her squinted eyes. She hadn't got a clue what the time was, but it seemed around breakfast hour.
She stretched her arms and yawned; that must have been the best sleep she has ever had in her life. She never knew that mattresses could be that soft.
"Rise and shine~," Zoey's sing-song voice rang through her ears, waking her up fully.
Marinette groaned and put a pillow over her head; seems it still wasn't enough to get her to leave her bed. "This is the first breakfast you are having! You don't want to be late," she reminded opening the closet to look for a dress she could wear.
She gave a tired smile and forced her legs to work as she went to the bathroom to brush her teeth. She was thinking about the prince, and how understanding he was; and also about the guardsmen that helped her. But, these were all strangled memories; quickly passing through her train of thought.
Marinette washed her face and proceeded to find Zoey holding a dress she could wear. It was a feet-length dress, with a black bodice that hugged her waist, as well as a red silk skirt, flowing down to her ankles; all paired with a pair of black heels. The bodice was embroidered with lace and was also sleeveless; it looked extremely elegant.
"That's a nice one-" "Oh, no dear. This is an evening dress; you can wear it tonight," Zoey interrupted, placing the dress on her bed.
Marinette laughed a bit under her breath. "This one!~" Zoey chimed from the other side of the room. As Marinette whipped her head around, she saw the dress.
This one was knee-length, with a pale pink bodice, and a silk ribbon that hugged her waist. The skirt matched the shade of the bodice, and the smooth fabric had felt nice; in the case that the fabric grazed her skin. Zoey decided to pair it with cream coloured heels and to put her hair up into a low bun, drizzled with some flowers. "I love the dress," she commented; Zoey pulling out a chair so she could sit.
"You excited?" Marinette shrugged. "I don't know. I've never been to one of these things before," she admits, playing with her fingers. "I don't think anyone has, but I'll make sure you look the best," she said taking out some hairpins.
Marinette giggled. Zoey was a very nice and enthusiastic person; she thought it would be nice to have that energy around her. After Zoey finished, Marinette zipped the dress, strapped on her heels, and took a final glance into the mirror.
Marinette wasn't used to looking very formal; especially going for breakfast. She twirled around, satisfied with her look. "Thank you, Zoey," Marinette praised at the doorway. "No problem," she tossed a smile, "Now go enjoy yourself,"

Marinette pushed through a crowd of girls and found herself sitting on the table on the far right. She looked around the room, looking for any sign of Alya; maybe she would then have someone to talk to. Since it seems like all of the other girls have clicked with each other over the span of one night.
She sat beside two random girls and waited for a signal - or something - to tell them they could begin their meal, or do anything for that matter.
The smell wafted in the air and the fragrance of the fresh-baked pastries had reminded her of the bakery she used to live in not-so-long-ago.
Marinette sighed silently from the amazing smell when someone caught the corner of her eye. "Alya!" Marinette exclaimed, waving for her to come over. "Hey girl!" she smiled, sitting across from her, "You look great!"
"You too," Marinette's tone was soaked with relief. "That dress is very nice," Then, she glanced to the center of the room, and saw the other two people she recognized.
She saw the guardsman from last night, as well as the prince; both of them sitting at the long table; the one that was placed on the higher part of the floor, so it gave the impression that they were royalty.
The guardsman and the prince seemed to be in mid-conversation as they noticed Marinette staring at them. They both gave a small wave and she smiled nervously; embarrassed that they caught her. She saw that Alya also waved, and saw some of the girls behind them waving as well.
As she saw the fifteenth girl wave at the prince, she decided to stop. She placed her elbows onto the table, immediately taking them off, remembering this was a formal event.
"Oh my gosh," Alya moaned. "Why does this smell so good?" Marinette giggled. "I know," Marinette agreed, placing her elbow on the table.
She gasped and put it back to her side as Alya laughed. She began to laugh as well until she realized the crowd was going silent. "Okay, ladies. After this breakfast 25 of you will be going home, and the rest will be staying longer," they announced as Marinette nodded to herself.
She took a deep breath but pushed that thought out of her mind. As soon as the Prince and the King had begun to eat, she noticed the other girls following their actions.
Most of them didn't even dare to touch the pastries; though it smelled so amazing, Marinette had to at least try them. Maybe she'd find out once and for all if the palace baking was better than hers.
Alya and Marinette both munched on the pastries and continued to converse.
"This is amazing," Alya mumbled between bites. Marinette giggled, "I know right," she responded, having to agree. After Marinette finished her breakfast, she felt as if she had just eaten Thanksgiving dinner.
She heard some whispering about her and Alya, but she was too satisfied to care. "The time had come. Please, if you here your names, then that means you are staying here,"
She took a deep breath, praying that she'd at least stay one more day to have a meal like that once more.
"Chloe Boujerois, Maya Boxier, Alya Cesaire, " they announced. Marinette silently clapped for Alya as she smiled. Marinette bit her lip; she hadn't heard her name yet.
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng," they continued as Marinette sighed in relief, getting a silent applause from Alya. She glanced around and, by their expressions, she had predicted that the girls who judged her earlier, were not staying the night.
Alya gave her a thumbs up and she returned it with an ear-to-ear smile, not daring to make a sound. After they said that the names were finished, a large burst of sound came from sobbing girls, as well as ones screaming in anger.
"Okay, your maids will help you with your luggage if you did not hear your names. Other girls are free to converse with each other," he announced over the screams.
Marinette stood up and bumped into a new face, Alya coming around the table to talk to her. She had long brown hair with sharp eyes and features, and her glare was fierce enough to make her crumble.
"Uhm... Hello?" Marinette awkwardly squeaked. She pushed her aside. "Sorry, not talking to clumsy idiots," Marinette sighed. Are all girls here trying to mean? she thought, smirking.
She then almost fell on another girl; she tripped on her heels. "Sorry," she muttered, embarrassed. "Don't worry," she replied in a stern voice, signalling it was something to worry about. She looked up and saw the second girl she had bumped into.
She had hair like the midnight sky, and it was cut to the brim of her neck. She had fair skin and wasn't wearing much makeup; as Marinette wasn't.
"What's your name?" she bit her lip as she didn't get a reply. "Mine is Marinette," she pursed her lips. "Kagami," she replied. Marinette gave a nervous smile as she walked away; she wasn't used to talking to such privileged girls.
"Bonjour, Madame," she heard a male voice call for her. She whipped her head around to see the Prince calling her name. She stealthily walked over, avoiding the glare from the other girls.
"Bonjour, Prince Adrien," she said as he smiled. "Don't worry, just call me Adrien," he said politely. "Thank you for not kicking me out, yesterday was, strange to say a least," she apologized as he laughed.
"Why would I kick you out? You're the most interesting girl I know," he said as she blushed. "Well, speaking of last night, would you like to... do that again?" he asked nervously.
"What?" "Well, the night is the only free time I get - I used to spend it with Nino and some other guards, but it would be nice to spend it with someone new," he replied, tossing her a smile.
She giggled. "Sure, sounds great," she responded. "Great! I'll see you later, just listen for the knock on your door," he waved, proceeding to walk off.
Marinette smiled. This was going to be a night to remember.
