Chapter 36: The Final Blessing
I waited so long to post that picture. Enjoy ^^
Adrien POV
Adrien fell to the floor, all four of the guards releasing him.
"You will stay in your room, don't think of coming out," The king locked his door.
"No," Adrien begged, thinking of all the horrid things he could have done to Marinette.
Adrien tried going through his window, but every way you could exit was either locked or destroyed.
Adrien didn't feel like crying, he was much too angry.
"Adrien!" He heard a female voice from the other side of the door.
"It's locked," Adrien muttered.
"Not anymore," Marinette's loyal maid, Zoey, walked inside.
"How...?" "Now isn't the time for that," Zoey shot immediately. She dropped a huge rule book onto Adrien's desk, flipping through its pages.
"According to this rulebook from the king's private library..." Zoey flipped through the pages. "...There!" She pointed to a dusty line on the page.
"Once the prince or princess is at the age of adulthood, they are righteous allowed to take the place of their parents," Adrien read aloud.
"Your mother has passed away, leaving a spot for a queen," Zoey started. "Marinette is at age, and since you are next in line, Marinette could be coronated and be taken into queenhood instantly," Zoey added.
"But, to be the queen the king must approve, he wouldn't allow it," Adrien replied with a huff.
"But," Zoey flipped the book to another page, "according to this, for her to become a queen she needs two royal's consent, one of which can be her own," Zoey looked at Adrien.
"I can be the second," Adrien blinked.
"Then, since of your age, you can become the king and rule over this kingdom," Zoey closed the book.
"He has hidden this book from you, secretly wanting to choose the right heir to the throne, and since Kagami has come from a wealthy family, this kingdom will have no risk of falling," Zoey explained further.
"Okay, we must coronate Marinette," Adrien breathed, "how do we even do it?"
"That is the problem, we need the king to be present," Zoey flipped to the page in the rule book.
"Becoming royalty needs a witness, as well as the most powerful present," Adrien read aloud.
"I can be the witness, and you can be the most powerful," Zoey spoke.
"If..." she added quickly after.
"...You both become coronated at the same time."
"How would that happen?" Adrien countered.
"Tomorrow, at the ceremony, Marinette and Kagami and all royalty will be watching and attending," Zoey proposed.
"Coronated at the ceremony!?" Adrien's heartbeat was a mile a minute.
"Who will go against the king to coronate us?" Adrien asked as Zoey left the room for a second.
"Right here," she grabbed her other book. "
Technically he won't be royalty," Zoey giggled. "Though, on this page..." she flipped through before pointing at one.
"The third highest is allowed to coronate if the first or second viable isn't present, this allows the coronation to proceed," Adrien smiled.
"Father is first, I am second, Natalie and..." Adrien trailed off, turning to Luka.
"Luka!?" he shouted as he waved.
"I would be honoured," Luka smiled, shaking Adrien's hand.
"Okay," Zoey breathed, "here is the plan for tomorrow, listen carefully..."

Marinette POV
Marinette waited beside Kagami, the crowd gathering. The king had made her put on a smile when all she had felt like doing was frowning. Adrien looked like he was nervous as well, but instead of sitting down, he stood up.
"Thank you all for coming," Adrien boomed.
The king was sitting behind both of the girls.
"I know all of you came to see the outcome of The Selection," Adrien added. "And you will get that, just in one second," he glanced to the side of the stage.
Luka walked up, holding two crowns in either hand.
"As none of you are aware of, my father wants to intervene in the outcome," Adrien said as both Kagami and the king stood up. Whispers erupted in the room, Adrien continuing.
"I vow to not let this happen," Adrien looked back at Marinette.
"Without any Queen, this kingdom will fall," Luka stood in front of Mari as Zoey tossed Marinette a quick nod.
"A-Adrien?" Marinette stammered as Luka read over a script. Marinette and Adrien faced the crowd, Luka behind both of them now.
"Marinette," he turned her to face him. "I have never felt his feeling to anyone before, you make me feel happy in a way where I can not be brought down," Luka showed Marinette the crown.
"Will, you become queen and stand beside me?" he reached into his pocket, as Marinette gasped, her heart beating a mile a minute. "Adrien..."
"Will you marry me?"
Adrien opened a ring box as the audience stayed quiet, awaiting an answer.
"Yes, yes I will!" Marinette felt tears streaming down her cheeks as the audience applauded them.
"STOP!"
King Gabriel shouted from the back.
"I will not allow this," he signalled for guards to grab the kids.
"Go!" Gabriel shouted as no one moved.
"I'm sorry, father..." Adrien felt the crown being placed onto his head.
"...But I am the king now."
He grabbed Marinette's hand, the crown is placed onto her head as well.
"For everyone in this room, and to the rest of the kingdom!" Adrien faced the crowd again.
"I will lead you with my strength, and will keep this kingdom at its best!" Adrien smiled as he faced the crowd.
"To all the children, and the parents, in sick and in health, this kingdom will continue to rise!" Adrien boomed as the audience cheered.
"And to my sweet Queen," his voice softened as he looked into her eyes.
"I will follow you to the ends of the Earth," Adrien kissed her. Marinette wrapped her arms around him, both of them releasing.
"To the next generation! I..." Marinette paused. "We will make our kingdom amazing, and as our final blessing," Marinette looked directly at the audience.
"We will make you all proud,"
***
Marinette smiled at her Papa, who was almost in tears. "You're all grown up," he twirled Marinette in her snow-coloured wedding dress.
"Papa, if you cry, then I'll cry," Marinette wiped her eyes, trying to avoid her mascara from leaking.
"I'm sorry for always being a pain," Marinette grabbed her Dad's hand.
"If that is true, why is it so hard to give you away?" Papa whispered as they heard the wedding music.
Marinette smiled as they walked down the long aisle, people from all the kingdom, as well as cameras, watching her.
Adrien looked at Marinette, about to cry tears of joy.
"You look amazing, my queen," Adrien said as Marinette giggled. "You look very handsome," she choked on her tears, straightening his tie.
"To the vows?" Adrien proposed as Marinette nodded.
"When I first heard of the idea of the selection, I was extremely angry, to say the least," he chuckled as the crowd laughed.
"I thought every girl was stuck up, or rude, but I never thought I'd meet someone like you. Once I waved to you, I saw your sweet smile, it just made me melt," he admit. Marinette smiled as a tear danced down her cheek.
"I fell in love that day and I never stopped. Through every rejection and fight, there is no one I'd rather fall asleep next to. I vowed to make my way into your heart, and I tried to steal yours just like you did to mine," Adrien sighed.
"What I'm saying, love, is that if you will have me, I will be the luckiest guy in the world, no matter what people say," he said getting a few chuckles from the audience.
"I...love you, Marinette. Nothing will change that."
"Well, I'm a sucker for guys who say things like that," Marinette smiled getting a few chuckles from the crowd.
"I thought that being privileged meant you were stuck up or arrogant, but I met you, and still never trusted you," Marinette paused.
"Over time, you just pulled me into your arms with your jokes and persona, and I just couldn't picture my life without you in it. I tried to make me forget about you, but the more time we spent talking, the more time I wondering what it would be like to fall in love with you," Marinette continued as Adrien smiled widely.
"I love you, Adrien Agreste. I want to be with you, no matter what. And, over the past few days, knowing that you were there, going through everything with me, it just made me feel..." Marinette paused.
"Complete," she smiled getting a few claps from the audience.
"Adrien Agreste, do you take Marinette Dupain-Cheng to be your lawfully wedded wife?" The priest said. "I do," Adrien breathed, wiping a teardrop from her face.
"And you, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, do you take Adrien to be your lawfully wedded husband?" Marinette's breathing hitched during the question. "I do," Marinette smiled as Adrien copied the action.
"You may kiss the bride!" The priest said as everyone cheered.
They both released as the cheering got louder. "So," Adrien said as Marinette giggled. "I don't think I could be happier," Marinette felt herself cry tears of joy. "Me either," he wiped them off her face, kissing her once more.
***
Marinette and Adrien did their first dance, both of their noses touching. Some other people danced around them, all to the couple's delight.
"Champagne?" Adrien handed Marinette a glass.
"Thank you," Marinette took it, watching the other families dance. "
Congrats, you two," Zoey said as a tall boy walked over. "This is Quinton," Zoey explained as he smiled. "A pleasure to meet you both," Quinton smiled.
"This is a wedding gift, from me," Zoey said, handing Marinette and Adrien a box. "Wait! Don't open it yet," she said, grabbing Quinton's arm and leaving.
"Now!" She exclaimed from afar as Adrien ripped the wrapping paper.
"A box of condoms!?"
Marinette chuckled as Zoey tossed her a quick wink. "24 pack!" Adrien flipped the box over. "Wow, they're giving us a 3 month supply!" Adrien said as Marinette poked his face.
"I'm a married woman, don't talk such things to me," Marinette took a sip of champagne.
Adrien chuckled. "We may have to use this later tonight," Adrien winked as Marinette laughed. "Stooooop," Marinette felt herself blushing uncontrollably.
"I love you," Adrien leaned in for a kiss, Marinette blocking it with her hand. "Save it for tonight~" she winked. Both Marinette and Adrien laughed, enjoying their special day.
***
"Tada!" Adrien opened the door to their new bedroom. "Wow!" Marinette kicked off her heels, still in her wedding dress.
"I'm so tired," Adrien sat next to her on the bed.
"You're lugging around a suit and tie. I'm wearing a long thick dress with heels," Marinette said as Adrien laughed.
"Soon you won't be lugging around anything," Adrien laughed as Marinette groaned.
"I'm joking," Adrien lifted her head back up. "I'm so happy we're married," Marinette leaned onto Adrien's chest.
"So am I," Adrien kissed her forehead. "Look at all the presents," Marinette looked at the entire wall of gifts. "That's the price of royalty," Adrien said as she laughed. "Adrien," Marinette tugged onto his arm.
"Hmm?" Adrien asked. "Do you ever think that ... your mom is there?"
Adrien sat down as Marinette shifted.
"I... don't know. I did think she was there at the wedding, probably jealous of your beauty," Adrien said as Marinette giggled.
"Why?" he countered.
"She was looking forward to this day so much, I just wish I could tell her how things turned out," Marinette told him sadly as Adrien stood up.
"Since your Dad is living here, he will be much closer," Adrien smiled.
"Is that part of the subject?" Marinette got up as well.
"Well, he won't mind if we take a little detour," Adrien got up as Marinette put on her flats.
"Ready?" he asked as they ran down to the exit.
They ran into the forest as they saw Adrien's statue of his mother and her grave.
"Here," he went a bit to the right. There, was a statue of her mother as well as her tombstone.
"Feel free to say anything," Adrien whispered, walking to his own mother's stone.
"Hey, Maman," Marinette teared up. "I married Adrien today, I just wish you were there," Marinette smiled. "He is the best, and right now, you'd probably tease me saying that you were right!" Marinette wiped a teardrop.
"And you were, and I love you so much." Marinette kissed the tips of her fingers, putting them to the gravestone.
"Wait one sec," Adrien said as Marinette stood. "Thank you for letting me marry your daughter, I will keep her happy," Adrien smiled at Marinette's mother's gravestone.
"Ready?" Marinette asked softly as they ran back. "For what?" Adrien asked. Marinette stopped and grabbed his hand.
"Let's just say we may have to use Zoey's gift," Marinette winked as they both blushed.
"I love you, Mari," he smiled kissing her hand.
"I love you too," she returned.
They paused, just before saying something in unison.
"I'll never stop."
