Chapter Fourteen - Beryl
The entirety of Midston stood in attendance as I walked down the long runway. I wore a blood red dress that had a V neckline and a soft flowy skirt made of thick taffeta. My porcelain skin was so smooth and pale that I looked like a vampire, especially paired with a vibrant red lip and a thick tuft of long white blonde hair. I scramble into the glossy limo, clutching a red velvet purse. Pursing my lips, I watched as the town rushed by and turned into the thick ebony forest. I felt a jolt in my stomach as the car came to a halt. My luggage was loaded onto my flight and I sat down on the plush cushions, waiting for someone to join me. A girl with long luscious shiny black hair and thick lashes that were too long to be real sat down.
She wore a fancy black leather dress with a gold belt, and a deep lipstick. She had long heels that looked uncomfortable and sat in a way that looked sure of herself. Too sure of herself. I scowled slightly and sat stiffer. "Everly." She said, looking disinterested. She wouldn't feel like that when I was queen. "Beryl." I replied. The next girl looked similar to Everly, with her dark braided hair and deep tan skin. She had some sort of dirt on her clothes that made me wrinkle my nose. The girl didn't say much but a shiny badge was pinned to her front that read "Jaiden". I pulled a gossip rag from the laced up compartment. Everly did the same but Jaiden seemed more interested in the food. She proceeded to gorge herself upon a luxury cheese plate. I smoothed some goat cheese onto a light cracker and nibbled as I read.
"Princess of Belgium Upset"
After a childhood of teasing and friendship, Princess Lili was a candidate for winning Prince Dedricks heart. When the selection was announced, any chance of a royal alliance or even more was diminished. It is said that the Princess of Belgium was enraged and, and I quote, "Wished that Prince Dedrick had the chance to follow his heart". There is no evidence of a romantic relationship, but this hints that the couple indeed does wish to be together. Will the fans show support and cancel the selection? Stick around to find out.

The corner of my lips dipped down and annoyance rushed over me in waves. Of course Princess Lili would claim that they liked each other. I flipped to the next page, hoping to find some better news.
"The Selection"
A fast favorite
Many ladies have caught the eye of the prince but Everly West of Dominica certainly caught the crowds eye. Much support for her has been found and many hope that she will be the future queen. She's not the only one with success however.
Some other competition for Everly is Scarlett Kijorn of Fennley. Her stats show that she ranks 21, while Everly ranks 23. Other competition is Miss Daina Hart of Belcourt who has a 19 and Miss Melina Castaway of Hansport who has 18. Other stories show that Sayra Chin Lee of Summer shows surprising support with a 13. Stay tuned to see how these stats change.

My flight landed soon after but I made sure to pocket a few additions of the gossip rag, to check later. You would be surprised at how much information you can find there. It can make or break someone in the selection. Shortly after landing we headed to the palace to greet the prince. "Miss Beryl Sven of Midston, your highness." I said, dipping into a curtsy. The prince gave a delicate smile, kissing my hand. I doubt he had kissed anyone else's hand. A few girls gave me nasty glances but I floated on over to the dressing rooms. "Hallo, I'm Gem, get in-tha chair." Said a lady. She had black shiny hair and she was chewing on bubblegum. Not professional. She combed my hair out, tying it into a bun and leaving two thick strands behind my ears. She then pinned two drippy diamond earrings to the saggy part of my ears.
She then brought in a dress that made my eyes shine. It had a bodice encrusted in diamonds that was incredibly elegant, and a satin skirt with diamonds glued to the folds in gorgeous patterns. I eagerly slipped into the dress, feeling more and more glamorous. A diamond comb was clipped to my bun and my makeup was done. The eyes were painted silver and the lips were a subtle pink gloss. I stared in the mirror, feeling like a princess, no, a queen. I practically almost was anyway.
