Chapter Ten The Devil May Cry

Chapter Ten The Devil May Cry

"I saw it and I couldn't stop it. I could only prepare for it."

We were in the last couple of days in December and Millie was still holed up in her room after the cruel, heartless incident that took place a week ago. I didn't blame her for wanting to stay in her room. She felt safe there but she didn't trust anyone. I could feel some of her emotions when she wasn't in her numb state.

I went to visit her everyday but no matter how hard I tried to get her to leave her room just for a little bit, she wouldn't do it. She never left her room. Her food was brought to her and I could only assume she was at least eating.

I wanted to go see the two backstabbers but I didn't have permission to see them. Dad was keeping me away from them. I didn't know if it was for my safety or theirs.

I just wanted to see them face to face and give them a piece of my mind. Because of them, I was drugged and kidnapped and put in the hospital for a few days. But worst of all, they were the reason Millie was in the state she was in and I couldn't even see when she would get out that state.

She might never leave that state and it was their fault. They did this to her and I wanted to give them hell for it. They were going to pay for this one way or another.

We had a lot at stake for us and I needed Millie here with me. I needed her help. We had to figure out a plan to stop him from destroying the entire world that we invaded and put the human race in danger. It wouldn't help if Millie wasn't in the right state of mind. But our time was running short.

Lucas knew the majority of what's going on. Reid didn't have much of choice but to tell him because Millie's life was in danger. So, he now knew what I was and how much danger I was in more than ever.

And yet he was still willing to stand beside me through it all. He had faith in us and I appreciated it. I talked to Hayes to see if he could somehow break through to Millie. He told me, she was still scared but she was coming around. At least to him anyway. That had to mean something. Millie was trying and that's all we could ask for.

I was in my drawing room when Lucas came to check up on me. I didn't have clue to what I was drawing but Lucas seemed to like.

"Your work never crease to amaze me." He told me, watching me with a smile.

"Thank you."

I added to last fews strokes I needed to finish my work and I stepped back to admire it. Lucas put his arm around me, staring at it too.

It was a clearing in the middle of the forest. I never seen it before. There was a small river that was off to the side along with some mountains. If it was a true place, it looked beautiful.

"What place is that?" He asked.

I shrugged. "Honestly I don't know."

As I stared at it, I had this unsettling feeling in my guts. That place didn't feel right to me and I didn't know why. I had this scared feeling and the longer I looked at it, the worse the feeling grew.

"Princess Lillian." One of Abe's guardians said. "Dinner is being served."

I nodded. "Okay. I'm coming." I said, still looking at the picture.

Lucas moved his arm and placed his hand in mines. "Come on, Lily."

I stared at it for a few more seconds before looking away.

"Alright. Let's go."

We went to eat and throughout dinner, my mind went back to the picture. Did I know that place? Was it just like the field of flowers? Was it connected to Arsyn? Did it have a deeper meaning behind it?

These questions formed in my mind and I didn't have an answer for them. Lucas could tell I was zoned out and he asked me if everything was okay.

"Yeah. Everything's fine." I replied.

I wasn't sure if that was a lie or not. I didn't want to tell him about the picture until I could figure out what it meant. Maybe even then I wouldn't tell him if it was something horrible. He didn't need to worry about something he couldn't prevent.

After dinner was over, I spoke to a few of the students who stayed at the mansion during the break. I was just checking on them and being friendly. I went to my room and took my shower and got ready for bed. I was drying my hair when there was a knock on my door.

I opened it and it was Lucas. I let him in and he kissed my forehead before heading for the bed. I told him, staying in my room was way riskier here than it was at school because first of all my father lived here and he had eyes everywhere. But Lucas said he didn't care. He couldn't stay in a room with three other people anymore.

I didn't mind him staying with me because he kept me warm during the night. Once my hair was dried I went to my spot on the bed and Lucas wrapped his arm around, pulling me closer to him.

I fell asleep and dreamt about the clearing in the forest. I couldn't make out much but I knew something horrible had happened here. There was screams and shouts. The ground was covered in blood and blurry figures run past me to the other side of the forest and on the other side there were figures running towards me.

I was in the middle of a battle. Then one horrible scream broke out. It was a sound of death then it was replaced with the sound of crying.

The scene changed and I was wearing black. I dressed for a funeral and as I looked around so was everyone else. Up ahead the casket was closed. Whoever it was, their death brought a lot of tears and pain and confusion.

The scene itself was heartbreaking and I had to say the devil may cry himself if he wasn't heartless. As I got closer to the casket, my movements became slower and my hands right to my stomach, holding it as pain ran through me.

Once I finally reached the casket, it opened, revealing who it was and my eyes widen in shock.

My eyes flew opened and I was back in my room. I was laying on Lucas who was fast asleep. I saw who it was and I couldn't believe it. I didn't want to. That couldn't be true. But yet I knew deep down, it was and it would happen soon, the time was counting down the seconds.

Tears filled my eyes as I pressed a kiss to the side of Lucas's jaw, softly. I cried silently as I laid there, thinking of why it had to be that way, why it had to end that way.

My time was running out because the person lying in the casket was me.
