Chapter Four Reid Gage

Chapter Four Reid Gage

"It was two days later when I met Reid Gage."

It was the middle of the week when he arrived. The girls talked among themselves whether he would be cute or not. Mia was their leader. She voted he would be cute because a name like Reid Gage couldn't possible belong to someone ugly.

I was drawing in my sketchbook when there was a knock on Ms. Tafe's door. She stood and walked over to the door, opening it. Our principal, Mr. Roberts, spoke to her before she brought in the new student, Reid Gage.

He was tall for his age and had dark blond hair that went swell with his blue eyes and tan skin. He introduced himself and I knew right away, he didn't belong here. He didn't live in the U.K. He was from the U.S.A, probably from the north.

"You can sit beside me." Mia offered, happily as she smiled.

Reid declined her offer, politely, and took the seat beside me on the right. I glanced at him for a moment before I started drawing again. A few seconds later, he spoke to me.

"You already know my name but I'm Reid." He said. "What's your name?"

"Aliyah." I muttered not looking at him.

I wasn't being rude but he would soon stop talking to me once Mia got him in her claws, just like Riley. I was gonna give it a week before he joined her group and take the empty seat beside her.

He would fit perfectly with them. I was the outcast; I didn't belong with anyone. I never would and I was beginning to accept that.

"So, Aliyah." He said. "What are you drawing?"

If he wanted he could easily glance at my drawing. I wasn't doing a very good job at concealing it. I respect that he gave me my privacy anyway.

I didn't answer his question because I wasn't sure what I had drawn. My eyebrows drew together as I tried to figure out what was on my paper.

It kind of looked like an outline of a person. It had to be a woman because it had feminine shapes. Around her neck, was a beginning of a sun necklace. I never seen it before in real life or in my dreams.

I glanced at Reid out the corner of my eye and he was looking at my drawing. So much for giving me my privacy.

"Who's that?" He asked.

I shrugged. "I don't know. I never seen her before."

I continued to draw the unknown person and when I finished it, class was about to be over. I frowned as I stared at my drawing.

It was a woman. She was young, some-where in her mid-twenties. She had long flowing hair and this royal dress on. She looked fearless. She was beautiful.

"You're sure you don't recongize her?" Reid asked.

I shook my head. "I'm sure. I never seen her. If I did, I can't remember."

I closed my book and stood when the bell rang. While most ventured outside in the wintery air, I journeyed to my favorite getaway; the library.

Mr. Glover was in the same spot he was always in and he was used to me coming everyday. I grabbed the book, I've been reading for the past couple of days, and sat in my spot by the window.

Usually, I sat alone and read whatever book I picked up and found interesting but today was different. He followed me.

"Why aren't you outside?"

I glanced up from my page and looked at him before turning my head to look out the window. I could see them having fun in the snow. There were loving and enjoying it.

I looked away and glanced down.

"Because I hate the cold."

It wasn't a complete lie. I was sure if I was still friends with Riley, I would be outside, trying to enjoy the snow. I would try to throw snowballs, make snow angels and forget about the cold. But things changed and like I said, was accepting that now.

"I did at first." He said. "But now I'm used to it."

"Where did you came from?"

"Montana."

I nodded. I didn't know much about the States but I knew everyone here wanted to visit it or even live there. I wondered what was so special about it.

"Why did you move?"

"My dad got a job promotion."

I rose an eyebrow. "A promotion that landed him in London? What does he do?"

"It's not really important."

"It must be if it required him to move halfway across the world."

I tried to squeeze his father's job out of him but he wouldn't bulge. Whatever his father did, he didn't want anyone to know. Well, he didn't want me to know.

Everyday he would talk to me as if I was the only person he wanted to talk to. But I knew, my time with him was coming to an end. Mia would somehow, in some way, convince him to join her group and he would forget all about me.

Yet it never happened.

Reid would talk to Mia every now and then. I knew for a fact that she wanted him in her circle but every time she asked him, Reid would decline and every time Mia's hatred of me would grow.

I didn't know what I did or didn't do to her to dislike me but whatever it was, she hated me for it.

I onced asked Reid why he chose to hang out with me rather than the rest of the kids and he told me, he liked hanging out with me even if we spent majority of our time in the library.

It was the fourth week of January and I was in the library, searching for a book I wanted to read. I was on my third shelf when I heard his voice.

"How'd I know you would be in here?"

Without stopping my search, I answered him.

"Oh I don't know. Maybe because I'm always in here."

"You really are." He agreed. "Do you ever think about moving in?"

I grabbed a book and faced Reid.

"Plenty of times but Mr. Glover won't let me."

He smiled. "You really asked."

I nodded. "Yeah, a couple of times."

We walked over the my spot. Well actually our spot now. Reid said it wasn't just my spot anymore. It belonged to both of us and I couldn't argue with him because he was in here as much as I was.

That probably had to do with the fact that I never went outside and played with the kids my aged. I loved to escape from reality and emerge into another world. I loved to see things from another person's eyes. Some I could relate to and others I would never relate to.

I opened the book and before I began to read, I glanced out the corner of my eye and said Reid leaning against the wall, watching me.

I closed the book and faced him. He never once read or much less picked up a book while he was in here. He would always stand by the wall and watch me read. At first I was creeped out but then I ignored it as I read.

Now I was going to figure out why.

"Why do you always watch me?"

He shrugged. "I'm just trying to get to know you?"

I raised one of my eyebrows. "By watching me?"

He nodded his head. "Yeah."

I crossed my arms. "So what do you have so far?"

"Well..there's the obvious you love to read. You hate the cold and you don't talk very much unless you have a question or you have to speak. When you read your facial expression changes with the scenes. When you find something humorous, you cover your mouth to smother your laugh and you smile when it's a happy part. When you read a part that you hate or upsets you, you frown. You get confused on certain parts of the book but later on when the pieces start to connect you understand it and the light blub goes off in your head."

I was surprised and shocked he knew all this by just watching me. I didn't even know I made expression as I read. I guess I was too engrossed into the book to really pay any attention to it.

"And you try to expand your genres but your all time favorites are supernatural and paranormal romances. You like humor and poetry but they're not at the top of your list."

I glanced at the book I was going to read and the title was Vampire Academy. There went paranormal romance. I looked up and he was smiling.

"Am I right?"

"Yeah but that's not everything."

He nodded. "I know but I will know everything."

I leaned back and picked up my book. I opened it again. "We'll see about that."

It wasn't until later on, he discovered my love for One Direction. He said he didn't understand why I loved them so much and that was the wrong thing for him to say. I gave him a long list of why they were the best and always would be.

He rolled his eyes. "Okay. I get it." He interrupted me. "You love them."

"I'm their biggest fan."

"They don't even know you exist." He pointed out, rudely.

"No they don't." I agreed. "But there's a chance they will."

"And why's that?"

I smiled. "Because they're coming to London for their tour and my parents just so happened to buy two tickets."

He frowned. "I'm not going with you."

"Oh come on." I said. "It'll be fun. You'll love it. I promise."

"I highly doubt it."

"I can't go by myself." I tried to reason. "My parents can't go with me because they have plans that day and it really isn't fair to have them change their schedule."

"Well maybe you shouldn't have told them I was going with you."

"I didn't!" I protest. "They just assumed you would."

When he didn't say anything, I resorted to begging and pleading.

"Please, Reid. It won't be fun without you being there with me. I never been to a concert with a friend before."

I could see him thinking about it and when he sighed, heavily, I smiled.

"Okay fine."

I squealed, happily.

"But don't think I will be going to another one. This is a one time thing."

"Okay. That's fine." I told him. "But I think you'll totally want to go back after you seen their concert. Their songs are amazing!"

On the night of the concert, Reid come over the my house as I was getting ready. He didn't understand why I was taking so long to get ready for a concert.

He said, "The lights are going to be off anyway. It's not like there going to notice you."

To which I replied with, "Trust me, they're going to noticed me."

I came out my room and he rolled his eyes.

"Of course they're going to notice you wearing all those lights. Heck, China will notice you."

"I just took what you said in consideration. You said, quote 'The lights are going to be off anyway'. So I figured why not glow?"

He shook his head and muttered "Unbelievable."

Mum dropped off us and there were a ton of people there. It was mainly girls. I got out the car and dragged Reid with me when he tried to sneak away.

Mum and Dad got us good seats. We were in the middle on the floor. We weren't too close or too far away. We were in the perfect spot.

I started bouncing on my toes, excitedly, as I grinned hugely. I was so ready for the concert to begin and so was everyone else, except for Reid. I think he was ready for it to end already.

But too bad for him because the last song really wasn't the last song. They sung two more songs for us because we were such a loud, great crowd.

I didn't have a favorite but tonight I loved Niall a little more than the rest because he noticed me. He actually looked at me and smiled during What Makes You Beautiful.

After the concert, nothing could break my happy spirit. I was floating on cloud nine. I would never forget this day. I would cherish it always.

Everything was going great and I was super happy but then something had to ruin it for me. Nothing could last forever no matter how great it was, it would always come to an end.
