Chapter One
It's a practice day for the big Quidditch game between Hufflepuff and Slytherin. Today they're actually being mature for once and sharing the field. My best friend Emma Mars is a Beater, so she forces me to every game, and every practice.
I'm currently sitting on the empty bleachers (empty because the modern Hogwarts student doesn't much care to see Hufflepuff play, they've lost faith in our winning ability) and re-reading my favorite book.
The Slytherin Seeker, Ben Quick, catches the Snitch right before the Hufflepuff seeker, Adreada Emu does and his team goes up in their infamous cheers that could fit right into a Screamo band. I see Emma groan and roll her eyes. I shrug and go back to my book.
Then, there is a dark shadow cast across my page. I look up into the green eyes, brown hair, and tanned skin of Ben Quick.
One problem, though. He's upside down on his broomstick, his face just inches away from mine. It holds a sly smile.
"Isn't the only fan proud of me?"
"Not exactly, Ben. Like a true Slytherin, you stole. And, another problem, see," I say and point to my tie.
"Well, that doesn't stop anyone else from rooting for us. What do you say? Cheer for me at the next game?"
"Not on your life."
"We'll see about that," he says slyly and then zooms off.
I roll my eyes. He seems to think he's cute or something. It's actually a little funny.
I shake my head and get back to my book.
But my page is missing! I hop up and look around. Then I see the Slytherin team tossing a crumpled ball of paper to each other and know immediately what's happened to it.
Ben notices me looking and throws a little salute, then zooms to the left to catch my page.
"You want it?" He calls. His friends laugh. "Come get it!"
I growl, grab an old school broomstick, and race off into the air.
"Wow, Ally. I didn't know you could fly."
"I don't have time for this. Give it back."
He laughs. "Like I said, come get it!"
He races off, and I follow right on his tail. He stops just above a goal, panting. "Ok, fine. Here you go." He tosses me the paper.
"Thank you, you prat."
"You're welcome, Captain A-hole."
"Goodbye, Ben."
"Oh, why'd you scrap the nickname?" "
"Fine. Goodbye, Prat." With that, I land.
I smooth out the page, put it back where it belongs, and head back to the dorm.
"Wait, aren't you gonna stay and watch me win again?" Ben calls.
"I'll be back for the game. Try to keep it in your pants until then." His team laughs and I go inside.
