The Circela Water Fountain (an Old Draft)
"Welcome to the Circela hotel, where all of the Ringling Circela live. Shall I give you all a tour around before you choose your floors?" Yesenia asked, as she strode in with Surou on her tail, his dark hair dragging against the velvet carpets of the marble floor. They both stopped and Surou took the time to look around, his eyes slowly moving from the golden chandelier on the ceiling to the couches in the lobby and to the silver elevator in the centre of the room. He raised his shaven brow and his dark, obsidian eyes bore into Yesenia's. "You have something to ask?" she questioned, resting her hands on her hips. Surou tore his eyes from hers and stared at the elevator. "This is.... A peculiar hotel," he plainly commented. Yesenia shifted uncomfortably in her boots and scratched the scruff of her neck. "Oh uh, well, I designed this hotel myself with my brother."
Surou watched her with a motionless expression for a while before Lori and the girls came in, their voices breaking the ice. The pair turned to see them and some of the girls waved at them, smiling. "I'd like that tour now, please," Surou said, turning his back towards the girls. He strided past Yesenia and she looked back at her friends, before running to catch up with their new guest.
Yesenia somehow felt nervous showing Surou around the hotel. Never has she ever been this scared giving a new member a tour, but somehow....
Somehow, Surou is different.
Very, very different.
He gave off bad vibes, and instead of gazing in awe at the first sight of the hotel....
Yesenia felt her hair slowly melting. She straightened up and took a few deep breaths, cold hair passing through her nostrils. The elevator let out a gentle ring, and the doors opened to the fourth floor of the hotel.
The Circela Fountain greeted them as they sashayed through the door, and Surou took a moment to gaze at it.
The marble white fountain glimmered underneath the mediocre lighting of the yellow bulbs, its water sloshing around at the bottom of its basin. Yesenia unconsciously walked up to the fountain and Surou curiously followed, watching as she stepped up onto the side of the basin and stared into the clear waters; into the reflection of her eyes.
He seated himself next to her feet and stared into the water with her, his eyes misty with interest.
"Something wrong?" It was his turn to ask questions now.
Yesenia did not jump, nor did her eyes widen.
Her eyes continued to bore into the water, and her reflection stared back, both faces full of reminiscence and sadness.
"Everytime..." she started, her eyes continuing to stare into the water. "Everytime I see myself..."
Surou wondered if she was going to burst into a rant of not being pleased with her appearance.
He prepared to roll his eyes, but his expectations were hit with a twinge of guilt. "I remind myself of my mother," Yesenia finished quietly. Surou learnt from the others on his very first day in the circus that Yesenia had to watch her parents die in front of her, and although she's okay with talking it out she still gets upsetted about it if anyone insults her parents.
He stared at the carpeted floor and at his hands. "Sorry for asking," he mumbled. Yesenia gently tore her eyes away from the water and faced him, her eyes wet and shiny. "It's fine," she said, sniffling. They then stayed as they were before the elevator dinged open and Kanye and Copper walked in, along with Rose and a few others. "Hey Yess!" Kanye called, smiling. "Hey," Yesenia replied, blinking back at the water. Copper looked at her and then at the fountain, a smirk slowly forming on his face. "Making the crack water fountain as a mirror?" he teased, Kanye and some others giggling along. Yesenia shot them a malevolent look and they took a small step back, realising they touched another nerve at another wrong time. Yong was the first to approach her and pat her on the back. The rest looked at each other, then decided to join in on Surou's tour of the hotel.
Surou on the other hand, eyed Copper and Kanye with immediate dread, seeing them as people who don't know how to act properly in front of others. He blinked and turned towards the Yong siblings to find Yesenia squatting, her brother's hand on her back. "You might want to explain about the fountain to Surou if it makes you feel better," Yong stated quietly, shooting the ones who laughed dirty looks whenever he had the chance. Yesenia's eyes continued to skim the water, its surface reflecting more than just her and Surou now. She stood up and climbed onto the fountain, reaching the top basin and seating herself there. Surou's eyes gleamed with amazement and interest as he watched the water flow down her thighs, but not wetting her pants one single bit. "Would you like to know about this fountain, Surou?" Yesenia asked, looking at Surou. He nodded, and everyone turned to listen to her.
"This fountain wasn't actually meant for show," she began, as she looked around at everyone. "It was dedicated like a statue, for my parents." The mood in the atmosphere dimmed.
"My mother used to teach me how to make holy water.
"Dangel holy water isn't your usual Christian holy water, where it purifies sin. No, dangel holy water is so much better than that. Dangel holy water kills off germs off anything. You dropped your food? You can clean it in the waters of this fountain. Got mud stuck in the soles of your shoes? The fountain's waters can help with that too." Some of the juniors' eyes sparkled, but Yesenia ignored them and continued, her arms crossed and eyes low. "The fountain will never run out of holy water, for it works as long as the Yong family's bloodline goes on. Other than that, it is the only water source of the hotel, thus making it the water we shower in and cook with." Yesenia heard Kanye make a soft, strangled noise and continued, pleased to know that she has unknowingly made her drink the "crack" in the fountain. "The holy water isn't harmful, other than that," she proceeded. "It cannot harm anyone. It can only clean."
