I was shocked. I knew what an affair was. I once saw it in a Hindi serial mummy used to watch. And the woman goes away after she finds out about her husband's affair.

"I was drunk. I didn't know what I was doing" dad spoke.

"You said the same thing the previous time. I cannot take this anymore I am going to my parent's house" mummy said. For some reason I was very happy that I will be meeting my grandparents. I loved them. They loved me too.

"Give me the gate key Riya lets go." mummy spoke to me. She didn't have any packed bags. She asked for the key again. Mummy didn't know which was the gate key. Only dad and I knew.
I didn't want to give the key because I was scared of the dogs. They only listened to dad. Once when mummy went down to call dad the dogs were barking so much I almost thought they'd bite her.

"Riya" mummy shouted. I slowly shook my head saying the key was not there. I lied to mummy.

"Give me the key" she asked dad.

"Wait till morning and I promise that I'll drop you to your parents house myself" grandpa said.

Dad went upstairs after mummy agreed and after a small fight. But mummy did not go she told me that we will sleep on the sofa together. I agreed.

I stayed awake for a long time. I saw the clock and it showed 3 in the morning. I was happy mummy left the light switched on. I eventually fell asleep holding mummy tight.

I felt like mummy was screaming. But I did not wake. It felt like a dream. A very bad one. The noises became louder, the screaming didn't stop. I opened my eyes and shut them again fearing the dark and in the back of my head, the voices disappeared!

I woke I noticed mummy was not next to me. My feet landed on something as I tried to wake up and sit on the sofa I fell asleep on. I bent down to pick it up and have a closer look at it. It was a half of a knife. I tried searching for the other half but failed. Then I quickly kicked  the half I found below the sofa. I don't know why I did that but at that point of time I only knew that I didn't want anybody else to find it. It has blood stains!

It was 6 AM, I was still felling sleepy. I went to the kitchen and drank a glass of water. I went upstairs later to find mummy.

What I saw there changed everything. It was like my worst nightmare had come true!!
