Chapter 17 The witch Executioners

The executioners POV

(The Reverend gets out of his bed chambers and puts his legs out of the bed having them lay and he holds onto his temple he inhales in pain)

Reverend Johnson: Ow. My head still hurts. I need my medication...

(He slowly lifts himself up from the bed despite the pain he is in then one of the executioners Victor Harris comes)

Victor: Sir! Did you hear the news the past couple hours?

Reverend Johnson: No. I was asleep heavily. What's the scoop?

Victor: that teenage girl passed out! She wasn't found until a couple hours later. Somebody got out from their chambers and saw her passed out.

Reverend Johnson: Cordelle? Is she alright?

Victor: She was quickly rushed to the infirmary. She's still not woken up yet.

Reverend Johnson: You idiot! And you're barely telling me this now!?

Victor: You were in pain, sir. I didn't want to disturb you.

Reverend Johnson: How did this happen?

Victor: I know not. But she was in her room and she just passed out. By the time someone got there a couple hours later the hallway was empty. No one heard anything whatsoever.

Reverend Johnson: When was this?

Victor: I'm assuming in the early morning like 5 or 6 A.M. I imagine she passed out prior to those hours.

Reverend Johnson: Whatever. I have things to do today. I can't be messing around with the likes of you and everyone else. And you? You have a job to do today, Victor.

Victor: Me? You didn't give me a notice of my jobs to do today.

Reverend Johnson: I left a note on your night stand. you're supposed to recruit some our executioners. Then you have to see Cordelle in the infirmary and get to the bottom of what happened.

Victor: Do I have someone come with me?

Reverend Johnson: If you wish... I have actual things to take care of today so you know what to do.

(he has Victor be on his way out so the Reverend can get dressed)

(Transition back to Victor going to the nearby town infirmary. He goes over to the check in desk talking to a worker)

Victor: Oh come on! You have to know something!

Worker: Sorry. Can't help you.

(Then a male doctor comes)

Doctor: Could I help you?

Victor: Yes. Did a girl come here that passed out today?

Doctor: And who are you?

Victor: I'm (pause) the father.

Doctor: The girl's father passed away three years ago. So if you're not family you've no reason to be here.

Victor; I only came by here to check on her.

Doctor: Check on her? Don't you mean spy on?

Victor: No of course I wouldn't do that. Look. I was sent here to check on her.

Doctor: By who?

Victor: Someone important.

Doctor: Speak sense.

Victor: What's the difference anyways? I was sent here.

Doctor: You'll have to leave you're wasting my time and quite frankly you're a nuisance. Get out of my infirmary.

Victor: Who are you to be talking to me like this? I wanna speak to the owner!

Doctor: I AM the owner. Get out.

Victor: But--

Doctor: Guards! (Two strong guards come over to Victor)

Doctor: Escort him out.

Victor: Wait! I know how to communicate with someone like you.

(He gets out of his pocket more than a couple coins he holds it onto his palm and shows the doctor)

Doctor: Is this an attempt to bribe a doctor?

Victor: It wouldn't be a bribe unless you took it doc. Whaddya say? In exchange for letting me see the girl you can have it.

Doctor: Attempting to bribe a doctor huh? (Pause) kick him off the premises.

(The guards grab Victor by both his shoulders he doesn't bother fighting back against two strong men they forcefully throw him out of the infirmary and close the door on him. (Victor gets up wiping the dirt off himself and readies himself up again)

Victor: Total waste of my time!

(He leaves the premises and goes on over and checks his notes he reads off the note)

Victor: "Recruit the executioners. Preferably off the streets"

(he shakes his head)

my work is never done...

(He goes on over to someone sitting on the steps he's wearing peasant clothing and reeks like a sewer. When Victor goes over to him he tries to ignore the smell especially if it's impossible)

Victor: Hey. Um...I was wondering. How would you like to be put to work huh?

Homeless guy: What?

Victor: I could put you to work. I know a good place. Whaddya say I offer you a place to stay and in return you get paid for what you do? We will even throw in some new clothing courtesy of our people.

Homeless guy: You...you wanna help me?

Victor; Of course. If you're interested, come by.

Homeless guy: Thank you so much. I'll think about it.

Victor: Well when you've made up your mind, come see me. I'll write down the address for you.

(He gets out his quill pen and a piece of paper and hands it to the homeless guy)

Victor: Here you go. See you soon, hopefully.

(He leaves and goes on over to seeing more people. When he goes over to the homeless woman he shakes her hand and puts on his usual fake smile. The dialogue is inaudible)

(when he's done recruiting some people off the streets he sits on a nearby bench all tired. Then Nigel Wheeler comes over to him)

Nigel: Sitting down on the job huh?

Victor: Get out of here, kid. You're annoying.

Nigel: Oh really, Victor. And you're not? You're literally hiring homeless people and random people off the streets who you don't even know.

Victor: Really? At least I'm doing something. I had to do a lot to get this job. You? You got into doing this job because of pure nepotism. You got in fast. And you don't even belong.

Nigel: I think I've proven my worth here like everyone else don't you agree?

Victor: Do you know what all of the executioners say about you? They say you are a lazy spoiled brat and you care for no one but yourself. And I'm sure that everyone in this town agrees but they don't tell you to your face.

Nigel: (Nigel chuckles) Well. I'm glad I have this lifestyle. The only reason you and everyone else talk like this about me is because you all wish you were me. But you're not. And that's too bad isn't it?

Victor: (Silence)

Nigel: Yeah. That's what I thought.

Reverend Johnson's POV Reverend

Johnson: Is everything up to date?

Assistant: Yes, Reverend.

Reverend Johnson: Did Victor come back with some information?

Assistant: Not that I know of,sir.

Reverend Johnson: That bastard. This is what I get for putting my trust in someone like him. He is so incompetent.

Assistant: Anything I can do?

Reverend Johnson: Go get me my church clothes. I have evening mass and then I have to reintroduce myself to the new recruited executioners for the witch trials. There's alot to do tonight.

(Cue back to the church with the Reverend reading out of a note he wrote for the public church)

Reverend Johnson: For the people who are possessed by a witch we pray for them. For all that are in the temptation of practicing the devil's magic let us pray for them. Lord we pray for the months to go by and for the trials to finally come to an end and to finally bring peace to all that are lost and want to be found. We also would like to pray for a specific person a girl by the name of Cordelle thats in the infirmary right now. Lord I pray you're there with her and you wake her up soon in your arms in the name of God. (Pause) Amen.

Crowd: Amen.

Reverend Johnson: Let us bow our heads for a moment of silence.

******

(The executioners are in the big building waiting for the Reverend. Nigel appears to be there while Victor is on the other side. They all wait for him)

Reverend Johnson: Good evening.

Rookie executioners: Evening, Reverend.

Reverend: I see Victor did his job right. Now. This job that I want you to do. We are gonna rid the bad people that have infected our world with their venomous magic. Witchcraft. And all of you that are here. You're gonna help me. And in return you'll get many rewards. But don't do this for me. I ask you to do this in the name of God and for yourselves. If you want to better your life, you will follow me. If you dont want to end up with the scum of the earth you will follow me. Do you understand the words that which I am saying to you now?

Rookie executioners: Yes sir.

Reverend Johnson: We'll get started on your job immediately.

(In the aftermath of the introductions The Reverend and Victor have a private conversation in his chambers)

Reverend Johnson: So, any news on Cordelle?

Victor: They kicked me out.

(This angers Reverend Johnson)

Reverend Johnson: That is NOT the reason I sent you there. You are so worthless! I ask you for one simple thing and you can't even do one thing!

Victor: Give me another chance, Reverend. That's all I ask!

Reverend Johnson: You know nothing of this job.

Victor: I won't disappoint you again I swear!

Reverend Johnson: You're right. You won't. Because you're being demoted.

Victor: Please Reverend! Don't lower me!

Reverend: Get out of my bed chambers. NOW!

(Colin's POV)

(he's seen in the infirmary visiting Cordelle. She's laying on the box bed in the infirmary with the thin Blanket on top of her while she still has her eyes closed. Colin takes his hand and comes close to contact with her hand)

Colin: I'm here. I heard what happened. I wish I could've stayed longer had I known this would happen.

(He shakes his head)

I'm so sorry...I wish you could tell me things. I wish you could wake up soon.

(He gets all teary eyed)

From the moment, I met you, I knew something about you that was different. From all the girls I've been with. God. If you were awake I wouldn't know what to say.

(The nurse comes in)

Nurse: your time is up, Mr. Bara. (He nods)

Colin: Alright. Looks like I have to go.

(He wipes off a tear from his eye)

I'll be back again to see you soon.

(He bends down forward and kisses her forehead and leaves)

(another scene pans into Cordelle still passed out in the box bed)
