It was a dark and cold night as three figures , clad in grey and green crossed the Moore.

Two ponies, rather rugged looking ones followed behind. Sticking faithfully to their masters side.

"It's cold." Will muttered, walking aside his teacher and friend. Pulling his hood tighter over his head.

"Course it is," Halt grunted, trying not to shiver himself. "The sun's gone down."

"And it's almost winter," Gillian added, rubbing his hands together in attempt to warm them. "So it's naturally more colder in these parts."

The trio then stayed silent again, and no noise came from them save for quiet chattering of teeth and the occasional nicker from the horses.

No one noticing the strange shadowy form, stalking them distantly but close enough on the left side in the trees. Except one pair of eyes, who stayed quiet about the whole ordeal.

Wondering if the other two would take notice, or if their minds were busy with the thought of getting to a warm hearth.

"Suppose you both haven't seen anything suspicious have you?" The Elder Ranger asked, raising an eyebrow slightly . "Or been keeping watch?"

"Yes, we've been." The younger boy replied almost sheepishly. "Well.. except when you've just distracted us now."

The man huffed, rolling his eyes slightly. Though secretly he was glad they had been and their minds weren't overly distracted. For even though they were Rangers, they were still young boys. And their thoughts could easily drift. "Good," He then said. "You've seen the person following us then."

Treaty looked curiously back at him. "The one in the trees?" He asked quietly, pointing in that direction.

O' Carrick gave a nod. "That's the one, as it couldn't be one of us. We Rangers know how to hide better than that. Or at least should anyways." He added, glancing at Gillian who grinned slightly with a shrug.

Will smiled a little, knowing this was Halt's form of teasing. Though he didn't do it often, he rarely even smiled all those months he'd been living with him. And when he did, tried his best to hide it in any way.

They soon reached their destination , knocking lightly on the door as they were omitted in. Though not forgetting the ponies who were taken care of by Gil. As it was too cold for them to be forgotten outdoors.

Though one thing was forgotten, as they were safe inside. And no one, at the moment. Remembered to keep watch.....

A/N:
So, how'd I do for a first timer who hasn't  completely been an official Ranger yet? :)

Did I write the characters correctly?

Was the story good so far and is there anything plot wise, etc that I should fix to make it better?

Any advice will be helpful.
