viii. legal contract
★ ★ ★
The silence around the room was loud and for once, Rosalie didn't have a thing to say. It was suddenly broken when the doors slammed open, a loud ruckus following by a crowd of voices.
"It's wrong, I tell you!" The sound of Madame Maxime's voice rang through, her French accent accentuated due to her anger, reminding Rosalie of her mother's for a moment.
"Oh silence, you French tart." Rosalie then heard Professor Moodys voice snap back, his tone venomous and frustrated, as they grew louder, "Everything is a conspiracy theory with you isn't it?!" He added, not allowing her to speak after she continued on.
"Quiet!" Dumbledore spat to the arguing pair, "I can't think."
At the sound of his voice, Rosalie and Harry shared a silent look.
"Oh everything is a conspiracy theory!"
"I protest!" The French woman continued exclaiming, even when Dumbledore spoke up again, "I protest!"
He stormed over, clasping his hands upon Harry's shoulder making the boy stumble into the wall behind him, "Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" Dumbledore asked calmly.
Rosalie watched nervously as he was asked, watching as he stumbled on a response before answering almost immediately, "No sir!" He responded, shaking his head almost frantically.
"Did you ask one of the older students to do it for you?"
"No, sir."
Rosalie ignored the stinging sensation on her skin as she pressed her sharp, long nails into her skin on her palm, biting the inside of her mouth, as she watched the scene in front of her.
"And you— Rosalie." He turned over to her making her look over, "Did you?"
"Did I what?" Rosalie asked, they couldn't seriously think she had done anything, did they?
"This is no time for games this time Rosalie Greengrass, did you, or did you not, put yours and Harry's name in the Goblet of Fire." Dumbledore snapped, his patience lessening.
"No— I didn't!"
He stared at her, not breaking eye contact as she looked back, staring back despite the pit in her gut when he looked at her as if he was trying to see inside her mind but was denied access.
She watched him in confusion as he took a breath before turning back to Harry then his eyes flickered between the two, "Are you both absolutely sure?"
"Of course we are!"
"Yes, yes sir."
Dumbledore stilled, looking at the two for a moment, before letting go of his grasp on the boys robes.
"But of course he is lying." Madame Maxime scoffed, hitting the chandelier out of her way as she gestured over to the two teenagers as if to make her point, "The both of them!"
"The hell they are!" Moody snapped back to her claims, pointing at her angrily, "The Goblet of Fire is an exceptionally powerful magical object, only an exceptionally powerful Confundus Charm could've hoodwinked it."
Rosalie just silently sat down on the spare seat, leaning her head on the brick wall behind her, ignoring the looks of worry from Cedric as she did so.
"You seem to have given this a fair bit of thought, Mad-eye." Karkaroff pointed out, stepping over to the one-eyed man, speaking accusingly to the one eyed man in his face.
"It was once my job to think as dark wizards do, Karkaroff," Moody growled back, "Perhaps you remember."
"This doesn't help, Alastor!" Dumbledore snarled, pushing past the two men and over to the minister, "I leave this to you, Barty."
"The rules are absolute," He began as he kept his back to everyone still, "The Goblet of Fire constitutes a binding magical contract."
Not many didn't like that claims and the silence was gone again.
"C'est impossible!" Maxime shouted again, her enormous hand with its many superb opals was resting upon Fleur's shoulder, "'Ogwarts cannot 'ave not just two, but three champions. It is most unjust!" The woman shrieked.
"I most agree with Madame Maxime," Karkaroff bowed to her, "We were under the impression that your Age Line would keep out younger contestants, Dumbledore." He said with cold eyes.
"It's no one's fault but Potter and Greengrass," Snape said softly but his black eyes filled alight with malice, "Don't go blaming Dumbledore for Potter and Greengrass's desire to break the rules." He looked over to the two, the girl especially, "Greengrass seemed to have stepped up a notch and Potter obviously is just like his father in that sense." He shrugged carelessly, his lips tugging up slightly at the sight of their expressions before looking back over at the adults.
Minerva gaped in disbelief when all Dumbledore had done to Severus's disgusting claims was nothing else but, "Thank you, Severus." Dumbledore said firmly making Snape go quiet yet his eyes were still glinting maliciously behind his curtain of greasy black hair.
"What? Albus that is not the case, they said it themselves they did not put themselves in the cup and they are only young, they can't compete!" McGonagall spoke up, not being able to stay quiet any longer.
Rosalie's anxiety dropped at her interruption, thank goodness for Minnie.
"There is no choice. Mr Potter and Miss Greengrass has no choice." Barty spoke up, continuing his speech in a more pointed way, "They are, as of tonight, a Triwizard champion."
"Both of us?" Rosalie spoke up this time from her place, standing up from her seat to stand beside Harry who was just as lost, "You're telling me we both have to?"
"Yes, that's exactly what I'm telling you Miss Greengrass." Barty told the teenage girl he had seen once or twice out of Hogwarts due to the pureblood galas they both attended, he didn't like her much, "And together is a must. You were both called out together after all. Certain rules may be passed aside for this moment but I'm sure you won't do the tasks together. You'll do one task each, the last together." He said finally.
"Ugh." Rosalie grumbled to herself though the sensible part of her brain told her to stop whining and admit it's better to have help with this because atleast you're not alone.
She ignored that part of her brain.
"Contact their parents, inform them of the events," Professor McGonagall ordered making Rosalie look up at that, she didn't want her mother and step-dad being called.
"Minnie please no—"
"I'm sorry Greengrass but this is beyond policy, I have no choice if it concerns your safety." The woman interrupted her, a pitying look in her eyes before she looked over to Snape who nodded at her order.
Snape pursed his lips, holding back a big reaction, as he practically skipped out the room.
Rosalie let out a sigh, dread filling her system, before she let out a shriek when an arm tugged her back, "Did you put our names in?!" Harry asked her in a hushed whisper.
"What? No!—"
"Is this some ploy to get back at me for the petty hatred we have against each other?" Harry continued, not interrupting.
"Have? I thought we forgave each other?—"
"Yeah I thought that too but apparently not if you did this!—"
"Harry!" Rosalie interrupted him this time, ripping her arm out of his grasp, "Stop interrupting me!" She whisper-shouted towards him.
Harry just looked at her expectingly.
"I didn't bloody put our name in!"
"You swear?"
"Yes."
"Pinkie swear?" Harry continued, not relenting just yet.
"What in the hippogriff is that?" Rosalie scrunched her face together.
"Ugh it's this muggle thing, my dad loves it, it's like an unbreakable vow but you don't die." He shrugged, not knowing why he even brought it up, thank god she didn't know what it was.
"Fine whatever I pinkie swear!" She watched as he took his and her pinkie and looped them over one another, "I don't wanna be here any less than you do, Harry." Rosalie told him sincerely, she would've thought joining it would have been cool, but not if the situation was going to end up like this.
She liked attention, but not this type of attention.
Rosalie was still confused beyond belief to how her name could've ended up in the goblet. It's not like she had asked anyone to do it for her and Fred and George only had put their own names along with Lees' into it so how could it have said her name. Rosalie literally had no ideas to who could've done it.
And now this is happening and her mother will be called. Her body ran cold at the reminder, and for the first time in a couple months, Rosalie was scared.
Like genuinely scared, not at the new revelations, but the fact that her mother is to be called. Her anxiety was on hard drive, thousands of thoughts spewing in her mind, to what her mother's reaction would be.
Probably the usual reaction, blaming it all on her without a moment to ask what happened. Great, just great.
And especially that it would happen all right in front of Harry and their family, one of the most famous families in the whole of the wizarding world, is even better.
Not that she cares either way but she doesn't want yet another thing from her family secrets to be revealed in front of someone she barely gets along with.
"Hey, you okay?" Harry's voice cut her out of her anxiety-filled thoughts.
"Hm? Yeah fine." She said, the lie slipping from her lips easily.
Annoyingly, he saw past her facade.
"Don't tell me Rosalie Greengrass is scared." He remarked in a voice of mock tease.
"Piss off, I'm not scared."
"Yeah okay," Harry held back the urge to roll his eyes, "You don't gotta worry, my parents could probably get us out of it, I'm sure you could get out of this too— considering your family is just as rich as mine." He shrugged.
"Okay, go tell the whole world, why don't you?" She scoffed, her tone sarcastic, as he just shrugged again in response.
"Well I'm not wrong."
Rosalie ignored the sensation that ran through her hand as her nails pressed sharply against her palm again, her leg shaking up and down.
"Don't be stupid, I know that man, he won't relent." She waved off his optimism, for once being the pessimistic one.
"I'll bet you sixty galleons that we won't have to."
"Thanks for the free money, Potter." She quipped back, knowing she was right, a shit-eating grin now on her face as she didn't even seem to notice how he had brightened her mood.
"You're going down, Greengrass." Harry retorted back, reaching over and shaking her outstretched hand.
"You wish."

Minnie had told her that she was allowed to have a moment to herself as they waited for their respected parents to arrive. She also knew Rosalie would prefer some time alone even though she may not have said it, the woman knew more than Rosalie thought.
She was walking aimlessly down the hallway, fiddling with the end of her pocket which she knew held her cigarette case. Rosalie hated smoking, hated the taste, having it in her lungs, especially since her mother does it and that woman was addicted— safe to say Rosalie is a little triggered by it.
Despite that, she still does it. Only rarely, when she's truly stressed. She'll light one, force it down her lungs, letting it relax her anxiety. It's better than having weed which does the same thing— just one is nicotine and one is drugs.
Rosalie's hand dropped off her pocket when she heard someone behind her making her turn around, looking over to see Hermione.
Dammit.
She quickly put on her usual expression of nonchalance and contempt as she ran a hand through her curly hair, hoping she didn't have her emotions stuck on her face.
"Greengrass." Hermione nodded, already cursing Harry in annoyance for making her go see if Rosalie was alright.
"Granger— hey," Rosalie forced on a her usual cool grin as she cleared her throat, "What are you doing here?"
Hermione took a step forward as she ignored how painfully awkward this was— it was for her at least, "Harry was worried about you— said you looked upset or something." She shrugged, not noticing, or staying blissfully ignorant to the change in the other's facial expressions at that.
Rosalie's body sagged in disappointment at the fact that she had basically been forced to go see if Rosalie was okay but not because Hermione cared enough to check— but then again what was she thinking, Hermione didn't even like her as a person.
Not that Rosalie couldn't blame her but it still hurt.
"Oh, right. Well I'm fine, he should worry about himself not me." She forced out as she ran her hand through her hair again before looking over to the other girl who just had a look that Rosalie couldn't translate upon her face.
"Are you sure?" Hermione couldn't help but ask which caught the others full attention again, "I mean it's okay to not feel okay."
"Are you saying that or Harry?" Rosalie didn't stop the snark that followed through her words but she did still feel bad about it— she didn't want to ever be rude to Hermione but she just couldn't help it.
Hermione couldn't help but raise her brows at the other's snappy tone, "It doesn't matter who said it, Greengrass."
"Yeah whatever." She muttered under her breath, that sure did answer her question.
Hermione was about to say something else when the sound of steps walking down the hallway came from behind her making her turn around.
"Hey Rosa your mother isn't coming here, overheard the Professors talking about it and thought to tell you." Cedric Diggory told her, his hip casually leaned against the brick wall beside him as he told the girl who had turned over at the sound of steps when Hermione had.
"Oh. Thanks Cedric." She for once didn't have it in her to be her usual sassy, 'nonchalant' self as she just smiled thankfully at what he had done for her.
She didn't know whether to be happy that her mother wasn't coming or disappointed because yet again, Andrea doesn't care enough. Better than getting a scolding for no reason though.
"Yeah of course." He nodded, he would've said more since he knew her relationship with her mother wasn't exactly cupcakes and rainbows but he didn't want to risk saying the wrong thing with Hermione around so he just left it at that.
"Was there anything else?" Rosalie asked curiously, wanting to distract her mind from her oaf of a maman.
"Yeah, passed Potter on my way out, said to tell you that Dumbledore still wanted you in there too."
Oh great. Fun.
She bit back a grumble as she nodded, sending a smile back when the older boy sent her a grin before watching as he headed off, her gaze not dropping off him.
For a moment she forgot Hermione was there who had been quietly observing the two.
"So.. you and pretty boy Diggory?" Hermione spoke up casually which shook Rosalie out of her thoughts.
"What? No way." Rosalie shook her head, turning her attention all over to Hermione as she looked up at her.
"Mhmm." Hermione chuckled as they started their walk back to where Rosalie was supposed to head too.
"What? I'm not. That's basically cheating, Granger."
Hermione looked over at the other girl in confusion, "Cheating? You're dating someone?"
"Yeah." Rosalie nodded.
Hermione pulled an impatient face as she waited for the girl to finish her sentence, making a gesture with her hand.
"You."
"Oh for—" Hermione cursed under her breath whilst Rosalie just laughed to herself as they made their way down the corridor.
"I'm kidding." Rosalie grinned, "We aren't dating, yet." She said before she made her way into Dumbles office, smirking to herself at the faint sound of Hermione's grumbling before she had stormed away.
That definitely made Rosalie feel a little better.
She walked through to the main room where she guessed everyone was, her prediction right since as soon as she entered, being met with three new faces. Lily Potter who was standing closest to Harry yet still looked the angriest about the situation, Sirius Lupin-Black who was stood beside Lily and lastly, James Potter who was currently cursing to the moon at Dumbledore and Barty.
Yet when she came in, they all turned over to look at her at the same time making her hold back the urge to pull a face.
James's scowl wavered, ignoring Sirius who was excitedly nudging him in a discrete manner despite the situation, "Hey I'm James Potter— we actually have met before, at the train? I don't know if you remember but—"
"Yeah I remember, you ruined my time with Marlene." She said as she headed over to where Harry was, sitting herself down beside him. She meant it lightheartedly, she knew he didn't actually purposefully do it to ruin her time with his friend. He didn't seem like the type.
"Yeah," James nodded before he backtracked to what she had said and pulled a face at his stupidity, "Wait no I didn't—"
"I'm Lily— Harry's mum, we also met at the train station." Lily jumped in, interrupting her husband, a small smile on her face.
Rosalie sat herself down to the seat beside Harry who looked half dead on his face and just nodded at the woman's words to show she did remember, "Yeah, you were with Neville's mum." She noted which Lily nodded at.
"Right yes I was," Harry's mum agreed, "And speaking of Marlene I just wanted to say that she wanted to make it but she got hold up on something but she is going to owl you later so watch out for that." Lily told the young girl who perked up a little at that.
"Okay." She nodded, ignoring the feeling of Harry's dad not looking away from her as she let her lips tug up into a smile at the woman.
"And I'm Sirius—"
"I know."
"Well of course you do." He just grinned proudly in response making her crack a smile before turning to Dumbledore.
"So what is happening? Are we doing it or not Professor?" Rosalie asked the man who seemed to have known the questioning from her was coming.
"As Barty had said when you were there, you have no choice." He gave a poor excuse.
The three adults scoffed but Rosalie just remarked back, "But that's a load of toss. I'm only thirteen, I'm too young to die!" She exclaimed dramatically.
"You're thirteen?" Sirius noted making her pause on her claims and turn over to the man.
"My birthday is tomorrow." She quickly explained to which she earned a faint ohhhh from Sirius in response.
"Happy early birthday." James couldn't help but say, a grin on his face despite his rush of thoughts running through his mind.
"Uh— thanks." She awkwardly smiled back as she cursed herself for it before turning back to Dumbledore, "You can't force me." She blurted out.
"I'm sure I've heard you saying you would've put your name in if you were old enough." He slowly drawled, not that he wanted her name in, but he still knew he was right on his facts.
"Well not anymore. That would betray my loyalty to Quidditch." She told him sternly, not noticing the proud look a certain someone had given her from behind.
Dumbledore let out a low sigh before deciding to skip the small talk, "I'm sorry Miss Greengrass but I have no word in this but saying you are going to die— I'm one hundred percent sure that will not happen."
"It could happen." She stubbornly refused to say otherwise.
"There hasn't been an accident involving the tournament in over a decade."
James Potter had gone to say something but it seemed like Rosalie had taken the words out of his mouth, "Maybe because there hasn't been a tournament in over a decade!" She smartly retorted back.
Barty looked over at Albus who just pursed his lips, giving him a look as if to say 'she's not wrong' as he shrugged his shoulders.
James pursed his lips to hide the proud grin he so wanted to spew, knowing it wasn't the time, before turning his head over to Dumbledore and Barty, "I don't care about any of that, there was still an accident in the tournament and kids shouldn't be taking part in this— especially not a fourteen and thirteen year old!" James retorted fiercely.
"I'm fourteen tomorrow." Rosalie pointed out towards the man who was opposite her but he just waved her off, not finished on what he had to say.
"Yeah okay, still thirteen." He waved her off before going back to what he was saying, his soft eyes hardening when he looked back over at Albus and Barty Crouch Sr, "Maybe let's think about the fact that someone has put my son and d— Rosalie's name into the goblet and figure out who in Merlin's name would do such a thing." He suggested in the same tone of frustration due to their insistence to not listen to what they were saying.
As Rosalie watched him speak, she couldn't help the way her lips tugged up into a faint grin before she realised what she was doing and forced it down. Why the fuck did she do that. That was weird.
He's only saying her name in too because he seemed like an okay person. He didn't actually care about her. Why would he? He doesn't even know her.
"It is a legal binding contract—" Barty Crouch Sr attempted to begin to persuade but none of them were having it.
It was Sirius who had spoken up this time, "No one asked or cares if it is one Crouch," He interrupted the older man, still petty at him due to being put in Azkaban for a while by him, "I don't think James cares— do you Prongs?" He looked over at his brother.
"No fucks given, absolutely right Padfoot." James nodded in agreement.
Rosalie raised her brows, not knowing whether to be amused or judge them.
She settled with both.
Lily just sighed under her breath, "Can't we work together to find a way around it?" She suggested and continued despite the change in expressions from Crouch, "I mean, as my husband said, they aren't even fifteen yet. The age line is seventeen and they are thirteen and fourteen— I don't mean it in a way to baby them but it is far too unsafe for two kids."
Rosalie wanted to argue that she wasn't a kid but Lily had held her index finger up over to her as if she knew Rosalie was about to do that before continuing with her persuasion.
"They're both just children, Albus. I mean Harry has enough attention under the spotlight as it is and Rosalie too due to... obvious reasons, they don't deserve to have all this unnecessary drama when we can solve it right here and now." Lily went on and Rosalie couldn't help the pang of envy she felt towards Harry for having such a wonderful mother.
Dumbledore sighed though his expression remained as calm and composed as ever, "The rules are clear, you have all heard what Barty has said—" He attempted to say as Barty nodded in agreement but the other adults just weren't having it.
"No... really?" Sirius gasped in mock surprise, a hand flying against his chest as a dramatic gasp escaped his lips.
"I don't remember such things happening, do you Blupin?" James mocked snarkily, his sarcasm dry and drawling as he looked over to Sirius, calling him a nickname that James made when he was drunk after Sirius and Remus had finally gotten married and it just stuck.
"No, I have no memory of such tales." Sirius remarked back in the same tone of sarcastic mockery.
"Fine then I'll remind you of them," Barty retorted in a forced calm manner, "The rules of the Tri-Wizard tournament states that—"
As Barty went on and on about the rules of the tournament and how they had no choice but to compete due to the legal binding contrast, Rosalie slouched down against her chair, a stifled yawn escaping her lips which were covered by her hand, looking over around the room before her eyes landed on Harry who was sat beside her who was half asleep, not paying attention to his surroundings.
Rosalie snickered silently, her finger reaching out and prodding Harry on the arm who just slapped her hand away making her grumble in her breath, looking back over to the adults a moment after just to see them all staring at her.
What the fuck did I miss? Rosalie thought to herself as she took in everyone's glance at her.
"Uh what?" She mumbled out, her brows knitting together as she frowned in confusion.
"How do you feel about doing this?" Lily spoke up, a warm smile on her lips that contrasts against her curious eyes.
Rosalie's gaze snapped over to Lily Potter when she spoke directly to Rosa making her purse her lips momentarily before responding, "I'm okay with it—" no she wasn't.
"You're okay with it?" James couldn't help but blurt out in confusion, his voice laced with disbelief as he stared at her.
She's already said she wasn't yet here she was lying and saying she didn't care. Did she think he wouldn't have noticed?
Rosalie's head turned over to Harry's dad when he said that, secretly confused to why he seemed so emotional about that, "Yeah why not— it doesn't seem like the end of the world." She muttered, not feeling as her confident self right now. It annoyed her.
Obviously she wasn't okay with it and she didn't really want to do it but what could she truly do about it? If she lied, which she did, she can probably get out of this room with all these people quicker but if she told the truth they would've been in Dumbledore's office for ages. They would still end up having to do it anyway since she knew how Crouch was and his stupid rules— which reminded her, Harry owed her money.
James's eyes widened, "Not the end of the world?! What are you cr—" He paused when she had just ignored him and focused on awakening his son, kicking the boy repeatedly until the third one woke him up, "What are you doing?"
She just stuck her hand out in Harry's direction making him look at her with a look before he realised what she meant.
"You're telling me we have to do it?" He croaked out tiredly, running a hand through his tangled and curly hair as he sat up in his chair, looking at the adults for answers.
"No! You're not doing it." James interrupted before the Barty Crouch Sr or Dumbledore had the chance, his arms waving in the air seriously but in Rosalie's eyes he just looked like a seagull on crack.
"Mr Potter—"
"No, don't 'Mr Potter' me, Crouch," James snapped again, standing up in a flash, "They aren't gonna survive in there! Harry absolutely won't, the kid is scared shitless of everything—"
"Dad!" Harry groaned, narrowly ignoring Rosalie's gaze who seemed to find it funny. That was until James's next words.
"— and her?" James pointed over to Rosalie this time, "The kid is like the size of a first year, no offence, she'll get trampled in a second!"
Sirius pressed his lips together, his eyes closing for a moment as he ran a hand through his hair stressfully. Especially after seeing the look of offence plastered across Rosalie's face. That is absolutely not how you bond with your child who doesn't know is your child.
"James—" Sirius attempted to stop his friend.
James turned over to his friend, "Oh come on— am I wrong? N—" He didn't seem the notice the look Sirius was giving him which screamed 'shut the fuck up or I'll beat your arse.'
"Yes. Actually, you are." Rosalie interrupted him with raised eyebrows, "What's it your business anyway if I wanna take part in the tournament."
"I'm not saying it is—"
"Exactly so it has nothing to do with you—"
"But it does."
"Yeah but it doesn't."
As they went on, Lily and Sirius shared a look. Sirius's was more amused and relaxed whilst Lily just didn't know what to say— she had only just found out properly that Rosalie was her husband's daughter on their way to Hogwarts this night. Obviously she had her thoughts but it had just been confirmed not even twelve hours ago yet it was just so clear in front of her now as the two argued— if you could even call it that.
Something they found both amusing was the fact that she had no problem with speaking back to him and putting him in his place— seemed like she rather enjoyed it if anything.
"Why would you think that putting yourself in danger is okay?" James asked in utter perplexity.
She scoffed, "None of your business. I don't know you," Rosalie countered, "Ever heard of stranger danger?" She added in an uptight voice as if she wasn't the most laidback person ever.
"You know Marlene." James pointed out, being just as easily quick-witted as her.
Rosalie pulled a face, "Yeah.. okay? And are you Marlene?" She slowly questioned as if she was talking to a toddler.
"No but that— ugh," He let out a sharp breath to catch his bearings, "The point is, We— we mutually know eachother due to both being close with Marlene. Me more than you but still." He went on, muttering the last bit, as he looked down at his supposed daughter. He couldn't just blurt out that she's his kid— Lily's orders— so he was stuck with looking like an idiot just so he was able to talk to her.
"That doesn't even make sense but whatever." She mumbled under her breath as if this wasn't how her friends thought when she said something 'stupid.'
"Well it does to me," James said finally, "And so it means we aren't strangers and even if we were, it doesn't mean I can't be concerned to why some child wants to join a death contest." He changed their topic back to their last one after realising it had swapped.
Barty Crouch Sr heard that and spoke, "It's actually called the Tri—" He went to correct.
"I don't really give a damn Crouch." James Potter interrupted him snidely, "The tri whatever the fuck is stupid and shouldn't be a thing— so is its stupid rules."
"Don't mock the legal binding contract— or the Tri-Wizard tournament Potter!" Barty snapped back, his eyes thinning into slits.
"I'll do whatever I damn like, Barty." James scoffed, barely sparing him a glance.
"That's Minister to you, Potter!" He growled.
"What did I just say?" James looked back at the man with a look in his face as if the man was the most stupid man in the world.
Rosalie couldn't help the snicker that escaped her lips which she muffled by pursing her lips together— she found the bloke a little annoying yes but that was funny. Especially after seeing the humbled look on Barty Crouch Seniors face.
Absolutely deserved.
As the Dumbledore's office got more and more hectic, the group growing more and more agitated and argumentative, Dumbledore cleared his throat before slamming his hands down onto his desk as he yelled, "Silence!"
Everyone paused almost instantly; James and Sirius shared a look, feeling as if they were back in school for a split second.
Dumbledore made a pleased sound after silence was now heard in his office, standing up straight as he dusted anything off his clothes, "Ah, silence at last, lovely," He sighed softly as he spoke snarkily, "I know this must disappoint you just as it disappoints me but due to the binding contrac-" He was interrupted by the three adults again before he silenced them as he raised his voice higher, "Due to the binding contract, Miss Greengrass and Mr Potter sadly have no choice but to play in the tournament."
"Can't you just break the contract? Just this once?" Sirius voiced, ignoring the surprised look from Barty.
"Break the—" Albus let a low sigh escape through his teeth, "It is magic, Sirius, strong magic. Even I can't break it." He with blunt honesty.
"You can't or you won't?" Lily Potter spoke up, an inquisitive look in her eyes as she tilted her head to the side.
Albus's eyes flickered over to the ginger woman who was yet to look away, never blinking, "I can't."
Lily just hummed, reluctantly accepting it.
Rosalie watched the altercation, being silent for the first time ever.
"So are we doing it or not?" Rosalie spoke up bluntly, ignoring Harry's eye roll.
"I'm sorry to say but you have to—" Dumbledore was about to say in an apologetic way but he was interrupted.
Rosalie ignored his attempts at being sympathetic and just held her hand out finally for Harry who huffed before reaching into his trousers pocket, getting out sixty galleons that he had in a little drawstring pouch bag, dropping it into her outstretched hand.
She smirked smugly to himself, not even questioning why he had that much money just lying around since she was also born into a rich household, pocketing the money into her bellbottoms pocket.
James raised his eyebrows at the interaction, looking over to his wife who seemed amused since not too long ago Harry was going on about how he hated her. Doesn't seem like hate to Lily.
"Told you." She cockily told to the boy in a singsong voice.
"Yeah okay, Rosalie, you win." Harry ruffled his already messy hair, looking over at her.
"Oh? What was that?" She cupped her hand to her ear as she leaned closer to him mockingly.
"Merlin you're so—"
"Sorry can you just repeat the last bit— didn't quite catch that." She continued her teasing.
"Alright you win— now piss off you're so annoying—" Harry grumbled, pushing her away from him after she practically invaded his personal space.
"Harold that's no way to speak to your—" Sirius was about to scold his godson but he was silenced when Lily nudged him in the ribs.
Harry looked over to his godfather, cocking a brow as he waited for the man to finish what he was saying.
"You.. your classmate!" He blurted out instead of what he had wanted to originally say.
Lily held back the urge to slap herself in the forehead.
Rosalie snorted to herself, "Dumbles can I go now?" She asked as she stood up from her chair, her right hand dropping in her red leather jacket that she had over her clothes— the only uniform she had on was her top half but due to circumstances no one cared at the moment.
"Oh yes, you're free to go now Miss Greengrass." He gave her the okay, stepping out of the way so she can leave, not even phased how she had referred him as, used to her behaviour at this point.
Rosalie mumbled a thankyou under her breath as he moved out the way, opening and closing the door behind her as she exited down the hallway.
She was headed up to the Gryffindor common room to see if Ginny, Anastasia or Anthony was free— usually what she did when she was stressed was hangout with her friends, it usually helped since it took her mind off of it.
Or go play Quidditch, despite not being a Seeker, when she was overwhelmed in her own heads, she enjoyed throwing the snitch and finding it. Rosalie always was one for finding little details— she didn't mean to, her brain was just wired like that. Her mother always pointed it out but she couldn't help it.
"Rosalie!" She heard someone call out her name making her drop out of her own head, turning around to see Mr Potter, Harry's dad, running over to her.
"Mr Potter hey?—" She was about to greet, albeit inexplicably confused, but was about to greet him nonetheless.
James had to hold back a frown at the formalities in how he was greeted by her— his own daughter, "Call me James— please." He told her sincerely making her slowly nod.
"Okaaaay..." She pursed her lips, looking at him and then away, not knowing what to say really— he came over and started a conversation, why?
James noticed the look on her face and his eyes widened in remembrance, "Oh— right!" He wanted to smack himself in the head at the fact he forgot that he was the one who wanted to talk to her not the other way around— he must look like an absolute idiot, "I just wanted to ask if you were okay, about this whole situation, I'm sure it is stressful for you to comprehend—"
Rosalie bit the inside of her cheek, "I'm fine, not hard to understand the situation at all," She interjected, not liking the way he was treating her like a child when her whole life she was treated the exact opposite of one, "Thanks though." She added after hearing how blunt her tone was, not meaning to sound rude.
"Uh.. no problem," James nodded, not really expecting that type of reaction from her and it showed on his face, "Sorry did I offend you?—"
"No you didn't sorry I didn't mean to be rude." She apologised, a subconscious action she has had since young, "Just—"
"Stressed?" He finished knowingly.
That caused Rosalie to look up at him, chewing more indistinctly against the inside of her cheek, not liking the way he seemed to understand her.
"I'm fine." She muttered out, looking back away from his eyes, her thumb twisting around one of her rings that was worn on her index finger as she spoke.
"So you've said." James nodded, feeling a little more confident with speaking to her now, a small and hesitant smile tugging on his lips as he tilted his head slightly to catch her eyes which worked.
Her eyes peered into his own, noting that he too had hazel eyes, oblivious to the fact he was doing the same thing— with a lot more emotion than her though.
James felt his heartstrings being tugged at, she has his eyes. Harry doesn't have his eyes. Rosalie has his eyes. One of his children has his eyes. His.
"Mr Potter— I mean James, are you okay?" She asked, tilting her head to the side, her voice being able to make him snap out of his thoughts.
"Yeah sorry— yeah I'm alright." He nodded, a smile on his face that he had to force not to quiver, his words true because he was. The sight of her hazel doe eyes looking up at him curiously was enough for him to be perfectly fine.
"You sure?"
"Yes yes, thank you for asking Rosalie." He smiled appreciatively down at the teenage girl, feeling his heart warm. She was so sweet.
Definitely got it from him.
Obviously.
"No worries," She waved off his thanks, "So uhm did you need anything?" Rosalie asked him, wanting to just get outside and have a moment alone in the cold air before going off to find her friends.
"No.. well yes I wanted to see if you were okay but I've done that so.." He trailed off awkwardly, feeling the helpless feeling build back up in his chest as he is stuck on what to say, wanting to continue the conversation just a little longer.
Rosalie raised her brows as she waited for him to finish his sentence, not noticing Lily and Sirius who was watching the interaction from afar.
"Did he just pause?" Sirius murmured back to Lily, his brows knitting together.
"Oh Merlin he is panicking." Lily's eyes widened a little as she held a hand to her forehead.
"Marlene would be loving this." Sirius couldn't help but say as they never broke their gaze away from the father and daughter.
"Marlene would know what to say for him." Lily responded back which Sirius agreed with.
"True— oh look at that poor girls face." Sirius winced as he noted the expression on Rosalie's face.
"Go save her." Lily pushed him forward a little as she continued to look at the two.
Now she saw the two side by side, she could tell the obvious similarities in each other's facial features. She seemed to have more of James's features like Harry does— how her son hasn't noticed the similarities by now she has no clue.
Then again Harry is very oblivious.
Just another thing that James had passed down onto him.
"What about you?" Sirius looked over at one of his closest friends.
"It's fine, Harry's coming over, you go talk to them." Lily told to him which made him nod before going over to them.
Sirius strutted over to the two, his callous palms clasping onto James's shoulder as he stands beside his bestfriend, "Rosalie, hello," He grinned casually at her, interrupting James with whatever he had been going on about, "What my deer best friend is trying to say is that we are here for you through this tough time you're going through at the moment and—"
Rosalie raised her brows in amusement, she wasn't dying or anything.
"Yeah alright Sirius, she's not dying." James muttered sarcastically which she heard, looking over at him for a split-second before her eyes flickered back to Sirius.
"Ignore him he has no idea what he is saying." Sirius told her informatively and she had no idea why they were even talking to her— it's not like they knew her. Why did they care?
"Right." She chuckled, the side of her mouth tugging into a faint but noticeable grin.
"If you needed anything please let us know and my lovely amazing wonderful godson will absolutely be forced to make sure you don't get trampled as my friend oh so poetically called it." Sirius told her with such casual sarcasm and sass that rivalled hers.
Instead of being annoyed that he was having Harry look after her as if she was a child, she just smiled in mirth at his commentary.
James didn't find it as funny since he was the one getting mocked but at the sight of her smile he couldn't help but replicate it with his own.
"Oh uh thanks." She smiled to herself despite the fact she thought they were probably just saying that to be nice but it was still nice to hear.
"Anytime lovely," Sirius waved off her thanks, his charisma reminding her of Marlene, "We shouldn't be taking too much of your time, I'm sure you wanna go have fun with your friends."
"Right yeah." She nodded, a hand running through her messy hair, an action she does basically all the time.
"Well again, if you need someone to talk to, please just send us a letter, or Marlene of course will want to talk to you," Sirius told her kindly before he added, "James say goodbye." He nudged his friend in the side.
"Right— bye Rosalie!" James perked up making her look over at him in entertainment at his enthusiasm.
"Bye bye." She told them finally before turning around as they said their last goodbyes making her turn around as she was walking now backwards, sending them a wave before turning back around, stumbling slightly as she did so— doing the same thing she did when they had first met.
"Take care!"
"See you!"
"Fucking hell don't wet yourself." Sirius muttered to James who smacked him round the head in response to that quipped comment.
"Says the mutt." He grumbled under his breath.
Rosalie paid no mind to whatever Sirius had muttered to James since she was too far away now, heading out the building to walk to her common room the outside way so she can have some fresh air.
She finally made her way back to the common room, ignoring the Fat Lady who had been moody towards her, obviously had find out about the situation. Rosalie made her way up to her dorm despite the many people attempting to confine with her in a conversation.
She turned around after shutting her door closed, letting out a sigh of relief before a scream escaped her lips.
"Fucking hell Ginny you scared the shite out of me!"
"Sorr-yyyy." Ginny apologised, a snicker escaping her lips as she came over, "Heard from Fred that Harry had been with Ron so that meant you'd be out too so I came as soon as I could." She shrugged making Rosalie regret shouting at her, now just wanting to hug her bestfriend.
"Oh. Thanks." She mumbled, taking a couple steps closer before allowing Gin to pull her down onto her own bed.
"Now... tell me everything." Ginny said finally, her hand resting on Rosalie's knee as they both sat cross legged in front of eachother on Rosalie's bed.
"Right so first...."
