Chapter-8
When I finally woke up, Ana was holding a damp cloth to my arm while Zeno was standing nearby, leaning against the jeep with his arms crossed. Night had fallen by now and we had apparently set up camp somewhere. Moonlight was shining brightly everywhere.
"Axel?" said Ana anxiously, her brows furrowed.
I tried to speak but my mouth wouldn't work. I felt drowsy. My arm was paining.
"Bro?" said Zeno from the corner.
I simply groaned before passing out again.
When I woke up again, it seemed to be late in the night. Ana and Zeno were talking softly. She seemed to be telling him all about Harry.
Which reminded me that my arm felt as though it was on fire. Whatever he had shot me with was definitely not good.
"You're awake?" said Ana, noticing and coming over. She helped me sit up and placed a bucket next to me in case I felt nauseous.
I sat up difficulty.
"Water." I murmured. I needed to clear my head. Zeno fetched me some, looking serious. That shocked me more than anything. Even being faced by countless zombies, Zeno was cheerful. The only other time I'd seen him this serious was when we had told him about Nell.
"Listen to me bro," he said, sitting beside me. "What's two plus two?"
I stared at him.
"Oh no!" he wailed. "Nell's been bitten and Axel has lost his head!"
Ana winced.
"Zeno! Stop blubbering!" said Cali, entering the jeep. "The guy's been shot with a tranquillizer, give him some space!"
Zeno backed away looking sheepish but unhurt. He was used to Cali's sharp remarks by now.
"Pretty boy!" she snapped. "Follow my finger."
Needless to say, she had terrible bedside manners for looking after someone who was sick. I just sighed and went along with it.
"Good," she said, holding up a white cloth. "Now where does it hurt?"
I wanted to protest. I wasn't going to be looked after like some two-year-old boy. Unfortunately, I was too slow.
Cali grabbed my arm and pressed it, making me scream.
Ana bit her lip in worry.
Cali grinned at me.
"You squeal like a prissy princess."
I wanted to get well as soon as possible just so I could strangle her.
"So, anyway," said Cali, binding up my arm. "About Harry."
I groaned and everyone looked at me in alarm.
"Can we not talk about him?" I mumbled.
Cali ignored me.
"He's apparently taken some part of the cure if not all," she said thoughtfully. "We need that information from him."
"It's not gone well at all!" I sputtered. "And I don't want my girlfriend looking like that half mottled corpse! Or her little sister or her cousin or anyone else who's been infected! And instead of giving information, he will probably kill us all or worse."
I slumped back, tired from my long rant.
"Let's talk about this later," said Ana gently.
Cali sighed and began moving away.
Zeno jumped up from the corner.
"Wait! Just to be sure, what's two plus two?"
