Chapter-6
I drew out the old rusted iron rod and went for the zombie who was trying to climb into the jeep. His brains splattered all over the ground. Zeno got out and began firing the zombies.
"Zeno! Save bullets!" Cali said reproachfully.
"Sorry," he said. "I just got a little excited."
Cali jumped out with me and began to stab zombies left and right. Zombies crowded around her. One lunged for her throat.
"Look out!" I yelled as I swung the iron rod again, killing the zombie.
Cali nodded at me and together we made quick work of the zombies. Zeno and Ana were sitting in the jeep watching us. He seemed to be giving her some fighting tips.
We headed back to them and climbed in.
"We need to get the cure at any cost," said Zeno. "The stakes are too high."
Cali nodded fiercely.
"We can't let all these people die."
"We need to reach the lab as soon as possible," said Ana, looking worried.
"But we don't have a plan yet." I reminded everyone.
"Don't worry about it," said Cali, looking determined. "We'll have one by tonight. Pretty boy, you'll have to drive us to Central Wulfaria tonight. Better catch some sleep now."
I sighed. Cali would not stop calling me by that stupid nickname.
"Won't it be dangerous at night?" asked Ana.
"Not any more than it is during the day," said Zeno. "Besides we have Bad Baby."
Cali pointed at me.
"Go to sleep right now," she ordered.
"What?" I asked. "I can't sleep just like that!"
She shrugged.
"Deal with it."
I shook my head. No matter how good we were at fighting zombies. Cali and I could just not agree with each other.
She took out the lab blueprint again and began poring over it. Zeno came over to talk to me.
"Don't worry Axel. She's always like this when she's worried."
I snorted.
Zeno smiled sadly.
"So you knew Nell, huh?" I asked as he began polishing Bad Baby.
He nodded.
"She had set off this burglar alarm at an abandoned building. We went to check it out and saw that she'd been hurt. Decided to take her along."
I nodded, thinking about her.
"You know, it was by pure luck that we met her," said Zeno frowning. "She was right in the middle of nowhere."
Suddenly, there was a loud crashing noise and squealing of tires. All of us clambered out of the jeep.
Another old jeep had crashed into a tree and was now smoking slightly. It was battered and spattered with dirt.
The gate shot open and a guy climbed out of it, howling loudly. His hair was blonde and covered with dirt. His skin was pasty and covered in veins. His clothes were tattered and old.
Ana let out a gasp of surprise. His face was half mottled around the jaw but clear above the nose. I did a double-take as I recognized who it was. It was Harry.
