All four of us were sitting in the jeep, poring over some blueprint of the lab Cali had managed to secure somehow. I didn't know how she did it but my guess was she did it by bossing around and screaming at everyone.

She didn't look it but Cali could be terrifying when she wanted to be, not that I'd ever admit it to her face.

"What are you staring at pretty boy?" she snapped at me when she saw me looking. I made a face at her and she glared. I was feeling bored. Zeno was on guard duty with Bad Baby and I wished I could join him instead of listening to Cali's dull observations. We were getting no closer to finding a way to enter sneakily.

"I need a pen!" Cali groaned.

Ana was busy tying up her hair and she kicked her duffel bag at Cali.

"Thanks, Hon."

"Hon?" I echoed and Ana grinned at me.

Both the girls had surprisingly become friends. Still, it shocked me. Cali was more likely to murder someone than call them 'hon'.

Cali let out an exclamation and dropped the duffel bag. A can of Pringles rolled on the floor.

"Hey! You had that and didn't tell me?" I accused Ana.

She smiled sheepishly.

"I was saving it for later." She shrugged.

I sighed. These girls could not be trusted at all.

"What is this doing with you?" asked Cali brandishing a picture.

"What?"

"How do you have this? she repeated.

I looked at the picture of Nell and Tess smiling adorably at the camera.

"That's my best friend," said Ana.

"That's my girlfriend," I said, pouting.

"What?" I asked when both of them stared at me like I'd lost my head.

"She is, well, kind of," I said defensively.

Both of them shook their head in disbelief.

"No way," said Cali. "Nell has way better things to do than fall for clowns."

"Excuse me?" I began indignantly. "How can you-"

"How do you know her name?" asked Ana, furrowing her brow and interrupting me. 

Cali looked surprised.

"Didn't she tell you? We were the ones who dropped her to North Wellsington. Nice girl. She fought well. She had a hurt arm if I remember correctly."

I stared at her open-mouthed. Nell had hitched a ride with these people? Damn.

"Zeno!" Cali called out. "Look what I found."

Zeno poked his head in yawning.

"There are no zombies anywhere Cali. Bad Baby and I are bored."

"Do you remember Nell? These people are her friends."

"No way!" he said, clambering into the jeep.

"That girl was cool," he said. "Did she meet her sister?"

"Um, yes," Ana said.

"I hope her elbow is okay," said Cali, frowning.

"Where is she, by the way?"

Ana and I exchanged looks. I sighed.

"She's been bitten." I blurted out. It still hurt to think of her like that.

"No way," said Cali, looking horrified.

"She was alright when we dropped her off," asked Zeno looking like he was going to cry.

Ana opened her mouth to say something but was cut off by a growl. Zombies.
