We were all silent as we climbed into the car. The fact that mottled men had managed to find us in a safely secured place had dampened everyone's spirits. I was not feeling good. Thoughts and images were spinning around in my head. Axel. My maths teacher's lifeless body.How the arm of Harry's friend had started to look like the zombies who attacked us.

Closing my eyes, I leaned my head back. Harry had put his friend bruce in the back of his truck secured with ropes. I thought about Cherry and wondered if the doctors had managed to heal her. I felt tired. So many people had been hurt including my sister.

As soon as the sun came out, we climbed out of the car for a break. Everyone sat down in a nearby park and started unwrapping food. I went and sat on a bench, not in the mood to eat.

Harry came over to me and sat down beside me.

"Is everything alright?" he asked.

"I saw a dead body last night. My maths teacher.somebody had dumped his body in the water cooler."

He put a comforting hand on my shoulder.

"What about you?"I asked. "You look worried."

"Those zombies managed to break in our camp last night. It means they have grown smarter and no place is safe."

His eyes darkened.

"And now Bruce has been bitten"

"I am sorry to hear that."

We both sat in silence for a little while.

"So they are really zombies, huh?" I asked.

"Yeah, I guess you could call them that. There had been a virus outbreak at a government lab and nearly everybody nearby got infected. And then the virus mutated and could only be spread through saliva or by being bitten."

"So whoever has been bitten is turned?"

"Yes. But there have been rumours of a cure in North Wellsington that is why everyone is rushing there."

"Why are the zombies biting people? Just to spread the virus?"

"When a person has been turned, they feel a terrible urge to taste human blood. Or so I have heard."

I was about to ask him how he had formed his group and why, when someone called him.

He got up and turned to face me.

"You know what's weird?"

"What?" I asked

"Whoever is bitten turns into a full zombie exactly four days after getting bitten, and as soon as the light of the moon touches him, he starts craving human blood."
