Months had passed since they last saw Damian, but one afternoon, he reappeared. This time, he wasn't the charming, manipulative guy they once knew. He seemed lost, uncertain.
Damian knocked on Lily's door, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. When she opened it, her expression was a mixture of surprise and indifference.
Damian: "Lily, I—can we talk?"
She stepped outside, closing the door behind her to keep the babies inside from hearing.
Lily: "What are you doing here?"
Damian: "I just wanted to see them. The kids, I mean."
Lily felt a pang of something—maybe anger, maybe pity—but she kept her voice steady.
Lily: "You walked away, Damian. You made your choice."
Damian: "I know... I messed up. But I'm still their father. Don't I deserve a chance to be in their lives?"
Just as Lily was about to respond, Rose pulled up in her car, carrying a bag of groceries. She spotted Damian and froze for a moment, her eyes narrowing.
Rose: "What's he doing here?"
Lily turned to Rose.
Lily: "He says he wants to see the kids."
The tension in the air was thick, but after a long pause, Rose nodded.
Rose: "If he's serious, then we'll let him prove it. But he doesn't get to just walk back into our lives like nothing happened."
Lily: "We'll give you one chance, Damian. But if you hurt them—if you hurt us again—you're out for good."
Damian nodded, understanding that this was his last shot. The two girls weren't the same as before. They were stronger now, and he knew they wouldn't tolerate his lies or manipulations anymore.
