- Disney was referred in this when Mel and Buddy are playing the video game. It is referred as the movie company that shall not be named.

- A running gag in the film is how Christmas songs are often mentioned despite it being August.

- Laohu is Chinese for tigress, very much like how Hu means tiger.

- Mu, the youngest of Hu and Laohu's cubs, is actually the first part of tigress in Chinese. The whole word is Mu Laohu.

- Xiao and Mao, when combined as Xiao Mao, means kitten in Chinese.

- During the car chase scene, there is a Minion in a hula skirt on the dashboard.

- Near the beginning of the film, two Dalmatians with their owners are spotted. They resemble Pongo and Perdita from 101 Dalmatians. Also, sorry for the pun.

- The name Leo is often associated with a lion.

- When Max and Duke were timing Liam in the beginning, the times were 7:08 and 6:07. They resemble the dates the first two movies were released on. July 8th for the first one and June 7th for the sequel.
