Chapter 32
"You're never gonna beat my high score Mel! I am the Dancing King!" Buddy exclaimed, doing the worm before spinning on his head. Next to him, Mel was performing the robot as he replied curtly, "Trust me Buddy, when we're through with this round, I shall be the one wearing the Dancing King's crown!"
Having had gotten bored ever since the others had left to find Gidget and Laohu, Mel and Buddy decided to play one of their favorite video games, Dance Wars. It was a fairly simple game. One danced to whatever song, in this case being Hands Up by Merk and Kremont featuring DNCE, was playing while the game somehow picked up the moves. Once they were calculated, whoever had the high score won. And between these two, the winner was always Buddy, no matter how hard Mel tried his best to beat his friend.
At last, the song ended and the scores came up. Seeing them, Buddy let out a victorious howl. A look of shock spread across Mel's face as he mumbled, "But I've been practicing my moves..." Perched on the coffee table in Max and Duke's living room, Sweetpea rolled his green eyes and gave a long whistle of disbelief. Sitting on the couch, Liam didn't seem to care who won or who lost as he sat there clapping his hands and cheering. Patting the pug on the shoulder reassuringly while sneaking a glare at Sweetpea, the dachshund looked his best friend in the eye and spoke, "You're getting better. Look, how bout you pick the next song and we'll see if you can beat me with that one, okay?"
His curly tail wagging a million miles per hour, Mel yipped, "Okay!" He grabbed one of the two game controllers and started scrolling through the songs. A smile creeping along his face as he shook his head slightly, Buddy added on, "And make sure it's a really good song. I'm not dancing to any Christmas songs this time of year or anything from that one movie company."
"What movie company?" Mel asked.
"You know, the one that shall not be named."
"Oh yeah! That one!"
Sighing softly while Mel continued searching for a good song among the many on the list, Buddy went to check on Liam to see if he needed anything. The two dogs and parakeet had been showering the little boy with food, toys and an empty peanut butter jar that Mel had given to him an hour ago when he had eaten every last bit of its contents. Looking at the small child, the dachshund noticed he was pointing at the window and giggling happily. Smiling with delight, he cried, "Kitty!"
Confused, Buddy looked over at the open window and jumped with fright at what he saw.
