The thing is... I can't put my paw on what's wrong.

The scene is now in the small family's apartment. Max is laying in his bed, staring off into the distance with a thoughtful look in his eyes. In the kitchen, Duke is eating from his giant bowl while Liam is eating is cereal beside him. Katie and Chuck have been getting around ever since Chuck had received a phone call from someone earlier. Whoever the caller was, nobody but Katie and Chuck knew.

The problem isn't whatever's going on with those two... at least, not hopefully. And it's not with Liam. If anything, he's going to be heading off to kindergarten pretty soon here. Duke and I have been getting him ready all week long and will continue doing so for the next two weeks. As for the problem, I feel like it's coming from inside me... like a longing... but for what, I haven't the slightest clue- hey! Little dog here!

That last part was due to the fact that Max had almost been stepped on. He had luckily moved his tail out of the way just in the nick of time. Looking up, he let out a bark. Getting down on her knees and ruffling up his head, Katie apologized, "Sorry there Maxie. Do you think you and Duke can stay out of trouble long enough while we're gone?" The terrier replied with two barks. Smiling, Katie placed a small kiss on his nose.

"Do you think Liam will be fine on his own?" Chuck asked, gesturing to their son. The little boy looked up at his mom and dad with cereal all over his face. Duke licked it off with ease. Placing a reassuring hand on her husband's shoulder, Katie replied, "We'll only be gone for thirty minutes, like you said. Plus, he has Max and Duke to watch him. He'll be okay." Watching as the pair shared a quick kiss before heading for the door, Max couldn't help but feel like something was missing in his life. He had no name for it though. Sighing heavily, the Jack Russell terrier watched as the married couple left to wherever they were going.

Once the door was shut, Max looked over at Duke and Liam and asked, "Alright, what are we doing today?"
