Chapter Two: Bomb's Away
Sapphire's POV
"Is everyone's earpieces working?" I heard Aurora ask from my earpiece.
"Yep," I confirmed.
"Mine's working just fine," Camille answered.
"Mine too," Mason said from my left.
Aurora and Camille were on the building's roof one block from us. And me and Mason were on the base's rooftop.
"Alright," I opened up the vent and set it down on the ground, "Let's go," I gestured for Mason to go in first.
"Wait!" Camille yelled out from her earpiece.
Mason's eyes widened and put his hand on his right ear. "Jesus woman, do you need to yell that loud?"
"Ugh, shut up Mason," she retorted.
Then all of a sudden we heard a thud right behind us, right by the stairs. Me and Mason turned around at the same time, seeing a guy's body on the ground.
"Oh shit. thanks Cami," Mason said. Camille must've shot him with the tranquilizer bullet.
Mason walked over to the guy, since he was on his stomach, Mason flipped him over. He grabbed for the man's walkie talkie.
"What're you doing?" I whisper yelled at him.
"I want his walkie talkie." He replied, putting his hands on the guys leg and putting him in a more discreet spot. When he was done, he made his way over to me.
I roll my eyes. "Can we get back to the mission now?"
"Yes m'am." He did a mock salute.
He climbed down the vent, I followed after. Closing the vent before going down.
"Alright Vanilla-Blast and Sparrow, remember the directions you need to take to the computer room," we heard Aurora say.
Mason started snickering at me, "Vanilla-Blast,"
"Shut the hell up before I let Camille really cut your tongue off," I sneered at him.
He stopped laughing, "I will keep my mouth shut,"
"That's a great idea," I replied.
If I remember correctly, and I always remember correctly. We need to take two lefts, one right, one left, two rights and then we would be on top of the computer room.
"Follow my lead Sparrow," I told him.
We moved swiftly across the vents. And then we were directly above the computer room.
I removed the vent top gently, trying to not make much noise. Looking down, I scoped out the room, no one seemed to be in there.
I jumped down, landing swiftly on my feet. Mason following my lead.
"Watch the door," I ordered, walking over to one of the main computers. I took out the hard drive from my pocket and plugging it in to the computer.
"Alright," Aurora said, "I'm in their computer systems, now lets find where the hell this bomb is at."
"Fuck," I heard Mason say behind me.
"Mason, what's wrong," Camille's voice popped up.
"There's guards. It's four of them. They don't seem to have any weapons on them. But they look like they're on steroids," He said.
"Sapphire, you can take the hard drive out. I copied the information we need, and wiped out any traces that would lead them to us," Aurora spoke.
I grabbed the hard drive from the computer, then went to where the vent was. Mason was about to lift me up so I could reach the vent but we were stopped by Aurora's voice.
"Wait!" she shouted, "The..the bomb is in the base."
My eyes widened at the statement.
"Where is it?" I asked.
"Give me a second," I heard her tapping on her tablet, "It's directly below you guys, you need to leave the room through the door and then take the west staircase, then you'd need to take one left then continue on straight. There should be a door there," she replied.
"How are we supposed to take on those monsters out there," Mason asked, gesturing towards the door.
"I got a plan," I said.
"Is it a good one?"
"I got a plan," I said again.
He rolled his eyes at me, "What's the plan,"
"Simple," pointing at him, "you will be the bait,"
"I don't think I like this plan," he looked at me with a pout.
"Well it's the only one that I came up with. So you are going to run the opposite direction, and have them chase you. I will follow, and hit them with this," I took out a tranquilizer gun, "It won't knock them out, but it will definitely slow them down."
He sighed, putting his hand on the door handle, "If I die, tell Belle that I never liked her cooking."
I shook my head at him, gesturing him to just open the door.
He opened the door and ran out. He started singing the spongebob squarepants theme song.
Jeez, he's weird.
Peeking my head out the door, I saw that the four buff dudes chasing after Mason. Making sure that no one else was here, I ran after them.
"Then drop on the deck and flop like a fish," I heard Mason sing in a off-key voice.
"What the hell is wrong with this kid," One of the buff guys said.
"He's singing?" The other one said.
"Well he is very off-key then," the third one said, shaking his head.
Since they were distracted by Mason's horrible singing, they didn't notice me running right behind them. I mean I was wearing combat boots, they don't make the lightest noises.
Using the tranquilizer gun, I shot all four of them. Two of them fell on their knees, while the other two kept on chasing Mason.
"What the hell," one of the guys who was on his knees muttered out.
"We've been shot!" the other guy said.
"But it doesn't hurt, I just feel all woozy,"
I walked over to them, "That's what a tranquilizer gun does," I say.
"There's another one," the buff guy said, looking at me with widened eyes.
"Yep," I replied, knocking him out with the gun.
"Hey! What the hell are-," I knocked him out.
I roll my eyes, running ahead.
"Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?!" I heard Mason's voice. It wasn't loud, but it sounded close.
I followed his voice. Looking up ahead, I saw that Mason was in a dead-end. The two buff guys were closing in on him.
"Look here big fellas, I'm just a 17 year old boy who loves watching Spongebob," Mason said, shrugging. "Did I tell you that I also love to sing?"
"Well you're not very good at it," One of the guys replied.
Mason looked offended, "I'm sorry, we all can't be amazing singers like Ariana Grande."
Ugh, why does Mason need to be like this. On a mission, nonetheless.
Tired of their conversation, I shot the two guys with the tranquilizer gun. One fell on his knees, while the other passed out on the floor.
Mason then knocked the guy out. "Took you awhile," he huffed.
I roll my eyes at him. Turning around and heading to where the west staircase was. Since I was a very fast-walker, it took Mason awhile to catch up with me.
We reached the staircase that would lead us to the lower floor. I looked around, making sure that no one was in sight. We went down the staircase, took a left, then headed straight to the room where the bomb was.
Putting my hand on the handle, I noticed that there was a keypad.
"Hybrid, we have a problem," I stated.
"What kind of problem," she responded.
"There's a keypad on the door, do you think you can figure out the code for it," I replied.
"I can. Since I have access to their computer systems. I should be able to open any door that has keypad," she chimed.
We heard a 'beep' come from the keypad. Signaling that Aurora opened the door.
"Thanks Hybrid," Mason and I said at the same time.
I opened the door, gesturing for Mason to head in first. Then I followed after.
The room was mostly empty, except for the bomb in the middle of the floor. Being in the room gave me a bad feeling. Like this was all a trap.
We heard the door shut behind us. Mason and I quickly turned around.
It was that man in the picture that Aurora showed me.
Estaban Luis. The Puerto Rican mob boss.
"I have to admit, you americans never fail to impress me." He spoke, his accent dripping in his voice.
He took small steps towards us. "Now, how'd you get in here," he spat.
Mason and I stayed quiet. I glanced back at the bomb, and locked eyes with Mason. He nodded, seeming to understand what was gonna happen.
"Well! Are you brats going to start talking, or do I have to torture the information out of you?" he sneered at us.
Mason made the first move. He grabbed a knife from his boot shoes. Looking closer at it, I noticed that it was Camille's new combat knife.
"I know this isn't a good time whatsoever, but isn't that Firebird's new knife?" I asked, moving towards the bomb.
"Uh, maybe it is." He grunted. Esteban was dodging everything that Mason threw at him, but I know that Mason could handle him.
"You took my knife!" Camille shouted, clearly angry that Mason stole her new knife.
"As much as I love to talk to you-", he grunted, "-now is not the time."
Kneeling down on the ground, I looked at the brick sized bomb. It looked weird. "Alright Hybrid, what do I need to do."
"There should be something where you can plug in the hard drive in. Once you plug it in, I will be able to disable the bomb from where I am," she answered.
I took the hard drive out of my pocket, and squinted down at the bomb, looking to see if I can plug it in somewhere.
Mason had Estaban in a headlock, but he didn't look nervous or worried. Then he started laughing.
Why does he sound like a screeching bat?
"Do you brats really think that I'd leave the bomb in here, with absolutely no protection!" he said, the corner of his mouth quirked up.
It's a fake.
"Hybrid. What the hell is going on?" I demanded, glaring at Esteban.
"He must've used some device to make it seem like it's the real bomb," she told.
I trotted over to him. Taking a knife from my combat boots. I held the knife to his neck, threateningly.
"Where the hell is the bomb?" I gritted out, pushing the knife closer to his neck.
"You're too late, it's already on the helicopter on the roof, ready to take off. Then it's going to be dropped off in the city of Ponce!" he exclaimed, his smirk turning into a wide grin, showing his disgusting yellow teeth.
Mason kept his hold tighter on Esteban, "You go stop the helicopter, I'll stay and handle him."
I nodded, putting the knife away. I put my hand on the door handle, I was about to leave when I was stopped by Esteban's voice.
"No matter what you do, thousands will still die," he announced.
"I'm not going to let that happen," and with that I left the room. I ran towards the west staircase, not knowing where to go next. I needed to find the way to the roof, I couldn't let the helicopter leave now.
"Camille, try to slow the helicopter down," I ordered her.
"Already on it," she replied quickly.
"Aurora, what's the easiest way to the rooftop," I demanded.
"From the west staircase, if you head to the fifth floor, then take a right and head on straight, the staircase there should lead you straight to the rooftop," she answered hurriedly.
"Thanks." I replied. I dashed up the staircase, taking three steps at a time.
I immediately reached the fifth floor, I took a right. There in front of me was a guard. But that didn't stop me. I continued running and when I reached him, I jumped up and uppercutted him in the face.
Heading straight to the staircase to the roof, I ran up the stairs. Opening the door.
The helicopter was already up in the air. Five feet away from the building.
But not that high up
I bolted to the ledge of the building and jumped off. Grabbing onto the landing skid of the helicopter.
"Sapphire!" I heard both Aurora and Camille shout at the same time.
"What would happen if you missed it!" Camille yelled.
"You were lucky Sapphire, I have to admit. But that was dangerous." I heard Aurora say.
"I'm fine." I grunted, lifting myself into the helicopter.
Two heads turned to me, the pilot and the guy next to him, who was carrying a case that had the words 'MOAB' on it. There was also a gun in the cup holder.
The bomb must be in the case.
"Well hello there," I smirked at them. "I think i'm going to need that," I pointed at the case.
The guy with the case sneered at me, his hand going to the gun in the cup holder.
I immediately grabbed the gun and disarmed it quickly.
Thank God for Camille teaching me how to disarm a gun fast
They both looked at me, their eyes widened.
I punched the guy holding the case. He looked at me, anger flooding in his eyes.
He punched me in my cheek, my eyes immediately watered.
Ignoring the throbbing pain in my cheek, I kicked the guy hard in his stomach.
"You bitch!" he groaned.
We were flying on top of a building. Time to go.
"This was a nice flight, but it's time for me to take my leave." Since the guy had a loose hold on the case, I quickly grabbed it then jumped off.
I tried to land to my feet. Keyword: tried. I landed right on my butt. I had a strong hold on the case. Looking up to see where the helicopter was, I saw that it was spinning around uncontrollably. Since it was close to a lake, it landed in there.
"That was a one-shot." Camille cheered. She must've shot them down.
I sighed happily, holding the case close to me.
Wait a second.
I opened up the case. The bomb being inside. I took out the hard drive and plugged it in.
"Aurora, the hard drive is in. Do your thing," I commanded.
"On it," she replied.
The bomb made two 'beep' noises.
"Bomb's disarmed." she said happily.
"Esteban's knocked out, I tied him up in a chair," Mason spoke out.
"Well guys, mission accomplished," I try not to smile since my cheek was still hurting.
———
"Welcome home, Team Grey," my mom's assistant, Jameson, said.
After the bomb was disarmed, we headed back to the warehouse. We got our things, and went to the airport. After a five hour flight, we finally landed.
"Thank you Jameson, it's nice to be back home," I replied politely.
Looking ahead, I saw my mom walking towards us.
"Mom!" I exclaimed, rushing towards her.
When I reached her, she pulled me into a hug. I quickly hugged her back.
"I heard what you did Sapphire," she pulled away from the hug and grabbed my shoulders, "that was very reckless of you to do,"
Mason, Camille and Aurora made there way to us. Greeting my mom.
"As you can see, I am perfectly okay mom," I smiled to assure her.
"Still, you could've been heavily injured, or worse. You could've died," she said, holding my shoulders tightly.
"I'm fine mom," I looked at her blue eyes, "and I'm ready for my next mission. So what'd you got for us." I changed the subject.
She rolled her eyes at me, "Oh do I have a mission for you. Your new mission is at a school."
I looked at her questionably. A school. Huh, never had a mission at a school before. "That's a new one. So what is it. A rogue teacher? A gang leader disguised as a student. Oh wait-," she cut me off.
"None of those Sapphire. Your mission is to protect the Mayor of Redwood's children," she replied.
"Mama Grey say what?!" Mason yelled.
And that is the ending for chapter 2. Hehe that's not how it was supposed to go but oh well. I wanted explosions but i decided against it. maybe in the future. Thank you guys for reading, see you in the next chapter ❤️
