Three

Eleanor pulled on her robe and hurried downstairs. "Are you ready to go?" She asked her mum, who was sitting on the couch, reading The Quibbler. She looked up. "I'm ready when you are." Eleanor grinned and ran over to the fireplace. She grabbed a handful of floo powder from the cup next to her, threw it at her feet and yelled, "Diagon Ally!" She closed her eyes and blocked out the slightly unpleasant feeling of traveling by floo powder, then when it stopped, she opened them and stepped out of the fireplace at Diagon ally. Her mother followed soon after. Eleanor shook the soft gray soot out of her hair and saw her mother do the same. She bounced. "Where are we going first, mum?" Her mother led her down the ally and pointed to an old shop with dusty windows. "Ollivander's." Eleanor had to stop herself from running into the shop. She was finally going to get her own wand! Together, they walked into the shop. It was just as dusty on the inside as it was on the outside. A thin man with gray hair came out from a hidden room. "I am Ollivander," He said, and before Eleanor could blink, he was measuring her arms, her fingers, even her head. "Nice to see you again Mrs. Weasley... Ash, 9 inches, dragon heartstrings." Her mother stiffened. "It's Ms. Johnson now." He paused his measuring to give Ella's mother a sympathetic look, then continued. "Yes, very sorry, very sorry." He threw his measuring tape onto the floor and went to look at a shelf with countless small dusty boxes on it. He took a box off the shelf and handed it to her. "11 inches, oak, phoenix feather. Try it out." She picked up the wand and waved it above her head. Nothing happened. Ollivander snatched the wand from her and handed her another. "8 inches, cedar, unicorn hair." Once again, nothing happened. She must have tried half the wands in the shop when— "Maple, 10 inches, thestral feather. I never cared for thestral feathers myself, but I think it might work for you." She lifted it up and waved it. Blue and purple sparks came out of the tip, and faded away. Ollivander clapped. "Well done!" They paid and left. "Mum look, Rose and Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione are here!" Ella pointed down the ally at the three people. Their backs were turned, but there was no doubt it was them. Uncle Ron's and Rose's flaming red hair stood out like snow in June, and Aunt Hermione's bushy brown locks were pretty hard to miss. Eleanor ran down the street and grabbed Rose's shoulders from behind. "Boo!" Rose jumped, and her dad reached for his wand before he realized who it was. Aunt Hermione's hair was even frizzier up close. It looked quite a bit like her own hair. Rose grinned. "Hi Ella! Did you get your wand yet?" She nodded and showed Rose the slender wand she was holding in her hand. "Maple, 10 inches, thestral feather," she said in a good imitation of Ollivander's voice. Rose laughed and pulled out hers. "Cherry, 9 inches, unicorn hair." they both laughed. Ella's mother walked up behind them and began to talk to Ron and Hermione. She noticed that Uncle Ron had stiffened. Hermione put a hand on his shoulder and said, "Would you like to walk with us? We were about to go to the owl emporium." Ella's mother nodded and they walked towards another building. "Ooo," Ella said. "Can I help you pick out your owl?" Rose nodded. "I think if I get a girl I'll name it Noctua, and if I get a male I'll name it Strix." Ella smiled. "Those are really cool! Let me guess, Strix means owl too?" Rose's face turned as red as her hair. "Yes." They walked inside a building filled with the sound of owls hooting and wings fluttering, and saw owls swooping through the room. There was a man nervously going through the room and feeding the owls. He had several scratches on his bare arms, and his hands were covered by thick leather gloves. "Pick whichever you like," he said in a scratchy voice, and he dashed into the next room. Rose looked at quite a few owls, even a huge black one that snapped at her when she got too close. A thin, graceful barn owl with a creamy white face flew down from one of the perches and landed on her shoulder. Rose named her Noctua, and was holding her in a wire cage as they left.
