Alone
I walked through the wild farm of trees as the sky got darker. I looked around at the trees looking for one in specific. My grandma told me this tree had a star like mark carved into it. As I looked through the thick forest, for the first time I realized how alone I was and how long I was going to be that way. The thought almost made me want to turn back and go home. I sigh and push the thought to the back of my mind. The sound of the breeze through the tall pine trees soothed me as I walked on.
I had been walking for about two hours before I cam across an old cabin that seemed empty. A small spark of joy lit up in me as I walked closer to the small wooden house. I turned the nob and the door pushed open.
I walked in the slightly warmer building and searched for a bed. After looking through the rooms of the dark, rustic building, I found a bedroom with a bed clad in dark reds and browns. There was a thin bear hide acting as a rug on either side of the bed. I walked across the floor to the left side and sat down. The bed sunk under me and hugged my hips giving me a sense of comfort. I let out a long sigh and laid back onto the stiff pillow and stared into the darkness of the room.
I didn't even realize I was asleep until I felt the sunlight seeping in through the window, warming my skin. I gently rubbed my eyes and sat up on the mattress. After stretching my arms out, I swung my feet over the edge and reached into my grab to grab a new shirt. I slipped it on and stood up. My lower back let out a small pain as I bent over to grab my bag. As I started for the door I heard a rumbling noise growing louder. I quickly looked out of one of the windows and saw a two door truck pulling up. I froze in my spot.
