Once lived a fellow Hubert Stan
Almost as good as any man.
With body strong and mind that's keen
A gift of both that's rarely seen.

The forest Hubert often stalked
When man did take his child for walk.
Up narrow paths and winding trails
With child on back did Hubert sail.

And boy with greatest glee did laugh
At fathers antics very daft.
The pair rejoice in days they spent
When up the mountain peaks they went.

Then came a day when stranger spoke
And peaceful play the rascal broke.
"I see your quick with feat my friend
When going up and down the bends

Of mountain side with son on back
You hike a very awesome track.
But still this fellow questions raised
When down on man and son I gaze.

Can Hubert climb to top of peak
Before the height of mount I reach?"
And Huberts looks at braggarts face
Whose wondered up with little grace

"I'll take your bet and soon you'll see
No man can swifter climbs than me"
So plan was made and date was set
That come the morn they'll settle bet.

So sun does rise so swift in sky
And Hubert up from bed does rise
To go to mount and meet his foe
And bring the fellow greatest woe.

So pair does meet at foot of mount
To race to top once three is count.
They ready selves preparing heart
To run to top once race is start.

So cry is yelled and men do flee
To quickly go on climbing spree.
And Hubert leaves a trail of dust
Along with swirling windy gust.

So Hubert strives to reach the top
With mighty bonds and daring hops.
He leaps from hold to hold to find
A hold to help him upwards climb.

Around he turn his head to see
That far from foe did Hubert flee.
Not single sight of other man
Did spy the fellow Hubert Stan.

And up the mount he quickly scales
His hands to sure to ever fail.
So Hubert reaches mountain top
Before he takes a rest and stops.

Then up on crest above his head
He heard a sound that brought him dread
From booming voice so proud and strong
"My dearest friend what took so long."
