CHAPTER 15

I was somewhere else, my body was floating, robes wrapped around me and a hood rested heavily around my shoulders. The robes were almost black with the slight reflection of red. The robes were soft in moved in such a fluid movement, the fabric was so perfectly infused that it made me question if it was truly solid. My hair was down in its curly not-so-much-of-a-glory.

I stood before the purple figure again, he was sitting on his throne. I straightened my back and narrowed my eyes into a glare. My feet stood firmly planted into the ground despite the subconscious form I was in.

"Why am I here?" Contary to popular belief in moments of fear, my voice was strong. My hands were clenched, sunconsciously itching for a fight. My teeth gritted and I squared my shoulders up.

"You interest me," His deep voice spoke, it was hard to believe that was a good thing.

"You know where my parents are," I said suddenly, "otherwise you wouldn't keep bringing me back here,"

"I know where your weakened heroes are," He confirmed.

"You said I interest you, why?"

"You do not know your other parent, do you?"

I took a second to reply, choosing my words carefully, "You know her?"

A sly smirk spread over his face, a mist formed beside him into the shape of a woman. She was robed and her skeletal hand clasped a long scythe to her side.

"My mother is Santa Carlos Murete?" I asked incredulously, "I thought she died,"

"You will find her soon enough," he said mysteriously. Suddenly I felt as if I was a mouse stuck in a maze, trying to find my way out. It made me feel weak. I hate weakness.

That was something I was not going to settle for.

I felt the dream begin to fade, my connection to the space slowly disappearing.

"Who are you?" I asked, my voice becoming faint.

"Thanos. Avator and worshipper of Death, the Overmaster of the universe,"

With that I was pulled out the dream abruptly and was sent sprawling onto the floor. Something covered me, pressing me to the floor. I pushed against it, ready to scream for help when I realized what I was fighting was simply, a towel.

    Correction, many towels.

The events of last night came rushing back to me, James chasing me around the house with a sedative, insisting that being awake for three days was not a good idea, finding a large old linen cupboard in the hallway which was really weird since Tony Stark's houses are usually super high tech and stuff. Anyway, I decided to hide in there which lead to sleep.

I whispered an apology to whichever maid had to clean up the mess and stumbled off to find the other Offspring.

The Mist was hanging at the edge of my vision. It was like the edges of my vision were darker, sometimes it moved and shifted in small ripples, becoming agitated with my moods. Whenever I used the Dark Mist, the ones around the edges of my vision lessened. It was invisible to anyone else of what I could tell. However, today it was built up in velocity which made me automatically nervous. When it was like this, something bad was going to happen.

I found the other Offspring in the training room. Typical. They were having little sparring competitions with the others. As of now, Cleo and Angel were in the ring, Angel was obviously more skilled and almost had Cleo down until Cleo used some of her lightning to send Angel sprawling out of the ring.

"AND CLEO WINS," Aaron shouted loudly and played the sounds of a crowd cheering as Cleo drank in her victory. Aaron pushed the rainbow wig out of his face and straightened his oversized glasses.

"What's happening?" I asked Piggy, who grinned at my arrival.

"So we decided to see who's the best fighter including powers and stuff."

    "And stuff," I repeated.

"As you can see, Cleo has a nice combination of abilities and fighting style. I think the only reason she managed to win so far is because she keeps electrocuting people,"

    "Have you gone?" I asked.

"No, neither has Gale, I think he's still miffed about you beating him,"

Gale gave me a small smile from the edge of the arena, he was probably acting as referee.

"What about you Lana?" Cleo sneered, leaning over the ropes that separated us. "Wanna have a try? Still see if you're so good?"

I clenched my teeth and took a few deep breaths, the Mist shifting in anticipation. I walked over to the wall, to truly beat Cleo I'd go without the suit, besides it wouldn't be fair. I was powerful enough on my own.

Don't use the Mist! A voice in the back of my head cried, you'll kill her!

"Why is this here?" I asked picking up my retractable blade from the weapons table. It was currently in Bracer mode.

"I wanted to try it," Angel shrugged. "It's pretty bad."

I put one on both wrists, still wearing my bronze leather jacket it'd be hard to say that I didn't look pretty badass.

I entered the ring and put my hands up in a boxing position. Cleo laughed and twirled her spear in her hands. Arcs of electricity running up and down the spear. She was still sore from the singing competition loss I realized. This was going to be her redemption.

She made the first attack, swinging her spear like a scythe. I jumped back then using the momentum, lunged forwards. My blades extended, resting on my knuckles and I swiped at Cleo's face, leaving a handful of hair floating to the ground when she spun with the momentum of her spear to avoid me. She lunged, I ducked and sliced at her ankle, in response she hissed. We went into a vicious routine of lunging, dodging, spinning and attacking.

After a few minutes of fighting, we were both weary, little trails of blood littered our skin. I dropped my guard and Cleo lunged, but instead of impaling me with her spear a large amount of electricity emerged from it, lunging for my chest.

I was sent flying backwards a good ten yards and onto the cold hard ground. My breath left my body and a loud ringing formed in my ears. My vision was blurry and I could feel a large pain in my chest, maybe a few broken ribs? Piggy or Gale cried my name, or was it both? My vision began to swirl into darkness but I refused to give up.

The Mist began to rise and something inside of me reached out for it. I had never touched it but now it rushed to me in full force, lacing around my arm and sending stabbing pain throughout my body. I could feel it bind to every cell, I could feel the darkness surge through me.

I was right to fear this.

Luckily, the only thing that it had done was fixed me and I stood tall.

Breathe Lana. Something told me, I saw the door and made a break for it, not ready to hurt anyone, even my vicious sister.

"Always second best," Cleo said slowly, taunting. Rage fired through me like machine bullets. I drew my breath in ragged breaths.

I spun around, ready to let loose a wave of anger when a wave of Mist shot from my fingertips. It shot out like a wave and sent the other Offspring flying back. The ringing increased in my ears and my vision blurred. Suddenly it became hard to breathe and I felt myself drop to the floor, unconscious.
