Chapter 2

"I take back what I've said earlier. I wished she just took that damed jam-packed jeepney!" Clyde regretfully thought to himself as he follows Anna. He remembered leaving the office at three in the afternoon and when he glanced at his watch, he was dismayed to find that it's already six in the evening. He felt like he went on a walk-a-thon. He glared at his Subject as he wondered irritably what her plans are.

To lessen his annoyance, he took Anna's Journal and from its pages, he summoned a small wooden hourglass. It's case was made of mahogany and inside glass, onyx black sand are dripping little by little. He smiled joyfully as he watched the sand from the near-empty upper part steadily draining its contents unto the lower part. It meant that the Invetibale si about to take place in about fifteen minutes.

“Finally!” he yelled as the hourglass vanished inside the pages of the Journal.

Anna suddenly stopped walking. She looked behind as if looking for something. Clyde also turned to look behind to check if the thing he has been expecting was already there. Disappointedly, no one was behind them.

When Clyde read everything that happened in Anna's past, he noticed that her life was unbelievably uneventful. He thought to himself that as a former S-Class Scribe, maybe he could give her a memorable momen.

He activated his Experience Logging Skill to record the event simultaneously as it happens. He then took out his Scribe Book. This book is a staple amongst the Scribes as it contains maps and details of events everywhere in the entire world. Clyde thought that the book resembles a combination of an atlas and an alamanac – only that it records events that is currently happening or is about to happen. He opened the silver-bound book and turned it to the page depicting the location of the Inevitable. He browsed through the profile of all mortals that will pass by the area and inwardly rejoiced when he saw someone that will fit perfectly for his plan.

“Let's make your life a little bit exciting, my dear Subject." He said as he took out his pen. Using his glowing hand, he started writing excitedly in Anna's Journal.

When he finished writing, he looked around and found themselves in a dark street. Several streetlights were out and hardly any vehicle passed by that street. Anna abruptly stopped from and turned around but saw no one.

They were near the instersection when the person Clyde has been anticipating finally arrived. From the shadows of a huge acacia tree, a lithe man emerged slowly.  Anna did not notice him because he was too quiet and the street was too dark. However, the man carelessly stepped on a plastic wrapper giving away his presence.

Clyde imediately activated his Experience Logging Skill to record everything that is about to take place. He placed his hand on the Journal and strategically positioned himself to view the event as it unfolds before his eyes. His right hand glowed and the following words written in pencil-like material appeared on the page:

Fear was etched on Anna's face. She looked around to seek someone who could help her only to find out that she was completely alone with the man behind her. The man grinned sinisterly at her as he took out his knife. Anna's nervously retreated and was about to run away when the man's accomplice came out. He held both her arms in a vise-like grip as he pointed a small knife at her side.

“Sorry miss. It's nothing personal.” He laughed mockingly. Anna felt the man's oily face and putrid breath as he whispered at her ear.

The other man approached her. "Don't scream or you'll get hurt. Give me your bag." He ordered as he pointed his knife at he.

Out of fear, Anna handed over her bag without hesitation. She knew that she only has P100 left at her purse, an old batterd China-made cellphone and her identification cards. When the man has taken hold of her bag, he pointed his knife from her side to her neck and warned, "Don't scream or else.."

After the ordeal, the thieves released Anna and sprinted away from her. She was left unharmed without a cellphone or a penny as she stared blankly traumatized at what just happened.

The event currently unfolding before Clyde ended at that paragraph. These words were written in Black Ink – the Inevitable Ink. He was only waiting for the thieves to release Anna as this will fulfill the Inevitable event. Only then will the words he wrote using the sapphire Plot Creation Ink will take into effect.

Like the ink that he used for his prank earlier, the sapphire Plot Creation Ink creates events such as small details that will open a window of opportunity for the Subject and Clyde wrote the following to open an opportunity for Anna:

She was left unharmed without a cellphone or a penny as she stared blankly traumatized at what just happened. However, her fear won't subside. She can feel heart beating against her chest. She looked around as she searched for company but found none.

Exhaustaion and fear took over her as she felt herself slowly drifting into unconciousness. She started to see patches of black as she fell on the pavement of the dark street. She didn't even notice the man rushing towards her. All that she saw was darkness.

“Hey, are you okay?” asked the voice that was drifting in and out of Anna's conciousness. She felt the person's arms cradle her into a sitting position. She felt her face tingling as the rough but warm hands of the person touched her face.

She knew that it was a man who found her. She knew she should've felt threatened yet she felt irrationally safe as he held her. She struggled to open her heavy eyelids to catch a glimpse of the man helping her. Her vision zoned in and out until she finally succeeded in opening a fraction of her eyes. She then found herself being lost as she stared into the most beautiful pair of chocolate brown eyes.

Clyde smiled when he read the entry he wrote. "You are going to thank me someday, my dear Subject.”  He grinned. He looked at his watch and smiled when he saw that the Invetibale is almost about to take place. In a matter of seconds, the thieves unhanded Anna and started walking briskly away.

"Perfect! Just in time." Clyde smirked. “Now, let's wait for him to show up."

He watched eagerly as he waited for his Plot Creation to unfold when to his utter astonishment, he saw that the thieves were rushing back to Anna.

"What the -? Why are they coming back? That's not supposed to happen! I never wrote that!" Clyde exclaimed. Anna mirrored Clyde's reaction as her eyes widened when she saw both thieves walking towards her. The other was fuming as he threateningly pointed his knife at the frightened girl.

"This can't be happening. This is not in the Journal!" Clyde panicked.

“Are you trying to fool us?” the thief angrily asked. He threw Anna's bag in the pavement and spat at it. “What the f*** is this? Cheap phone and a hundred bill? What the f*** am I suppose to do with these? Hand me your money!”

Clyde saw how the thief started to press the knife against the girl's side. Anna stood frozen in fear and was in a state of shock. It was then that he noticed a small crimson blot starting to stain Anna's white blouse.

"Damn! It isn't her time yet! Her death isn''t due yet. This can't be happening.” He thought frantically. He helplessly looked at the scene unfolding before his eyes. ”What am I supposed to do?”

He almost lost for hope when he remembered the Plot he wrote using the Creation Ink. “The guy!” he exclaimed in joy. He knew the guy would arrive anytime soon. “He’ll fix this!”

He glanced at his watch, waiting for the seconds to tick by as he watched the street corner in anticipation. He kept his eyes on the street awaiting the arrival of the man. He is supposed to come anytime soon.

In five seconds..

Anna flinched when she felt the knife piercing her side.

Four..

“Hey, that’s enough. I don’t think we’ll get anything else from her.” The other thief told his accomplice.

Three..

“Shut the f*** up!” glared the other in response as he pressed the knife closer to Anna’s side. “Give me your money or I’ll kill you!”

Two..

Anna shook in fear. She didn’t even notice that she started crying.

“Hold on, Anna.” Clyde murmured.

One.

He watched the street corner. Nobody came. The person he was expecting didn’t come.

“Where is he?!” he shouted to no one in particular.

“Hand me the money!” the thief growled but Anna stood frozen in fear.

Clyde was so confused. He can’t understand why the man didn’t come. He was sure he wrote that the person will arrive. “What is happening?” he asked himself.

“I said give it to me!” the thief roared in anger. Clyde turned his attention to them just in time to see the thief aiming to stab Anna. Everything slowed down and before he knew it he was standing before them.

“Hey! Stop that!” Clyde shouted as Anna slipped from conciousness. He immediately snatched the knife from the thief and threw it away. He then aimed a punch in the man’s face making him stagger backwards. Both thieves were stunned to see him suddenly appear out of nowhere. The previously armed one poised to attack Clyde but immediately changed his mind when he noticed his comrade scampering away in fear. He ran after him and disappeared in the next corner of the dark street.

Clyde approached Anna who was lying unconscious on the cold pavement. He checked the wound inflicted on her side and breathe a sigh of relief when he saw it wasn’t too deep or life threatening. He was scared to lose a Subject under his watch especially when when her death wasn’t scheduled yet.

He lifted Anna to a sitting position and gently tapped her face to wake her up. “Hey, are you okay?” he asked.

Her eyelids gently flutter as she struggles to open them. Hey eyes opened for merely a few seconds before she slipped back to unconciousness. Clyde’s eyes widened in fear when he saw what was clearly reflected in Anna’s eyes.

“T-this can’t be…” he whispered to himself. He laid her back down and immediately grabbed Anna’s Journal. In his haste and confusion, he accidentally dropped Anna’s Journal. He quickly grabbed it and turned to the page where he wrote using his Plot Creation Ink. Fear overtook his body when he saw it.

Little by little, the sapphire Plot Creation Ink turned to black. He knew what this means. The Plot that he wrote for his Subject has been fulfilled and everything on it was irreversible.

He sat there hopelessly watching as the once blue words turn to black.

She then found herself being lost as she stared into the most beautiful pair of chocolate brown eyes.

“Chocolate brown eyes…” Clyde murmured as something heavy dropped at the pit of his stomach. “No! No…it’s not supposed to be my eyes.”
