Nazi Meth

I found this to be absolutely nuts, but it turns out it's true.

The Nazi military and many of the leaders were high on crystal meth. Crystal meth, or meth amphetamine is a narcotic. The Berlin based drug company Temmler Werke developed an early version of crystal meth called Pervitin, and the Nazi leaders soon realized that this drug could be used to make their soldiers hopped up to do extraordinary deeds in combat, so they began to issue pills to the military and some of it even got out to the public. Literally millions of the pills were distributed to the military monthly. During the invasion of Russia, Germany soldiers were using the drug to stay awake for days.

More than 200 million pills were given out between 1939 and 1945.

Unfortunately, the Nazi's didn't consider the effects of long-term use of meth, which is addiction and mental distress that results in serious mental disease and physical degradation. When the winter arrived on the Eastern front, soldiers ended up getting frozen feet because they were too high to realize that their feet were gone from gangrene.

The really nutty part of this story is that his personal doctor, Theodore Morell, was injecting Adolph Hitler with meth every day and it wasn't long until Hitler was addicted and began to exhibit strange behavior consisted with meth addiction. The evidence of his physical degradation because of meth addiction is seen in the final video of his encouraging the final defense of Berlin. It wasn't long after the video was made that he shot himself. The video clearly shows that he looked haggard and much older than his 56 years. Basically, Hitler was a meth head for the entire time he ran Germany.

The other thing I found disgusting about this was the fact that concentration inmates were used as test subjects for the development of drug concoctions to use as stimulates.

There is also a report that the German navy made one-man subs to use in naval warfare and that a dangerous mix of drugs was used to keep the pilot of the sub able to stay away for days. None of these subs ever came back.
