The Witch Who Was a Princess

Blake had not waited all her life to be kidnapped. She never wanted to be kidnapped, yet somehow she was kidnapped twice in one day. That night while all her friends slept peacefully in their sleeping bags, she dreamt of witches. She had arrived at a party she was forcefully led to, only to find the room full of gruesome storybook witches and no other people in sight. And just when she saw a witch who wasn't as gruesome as the rest one who looked like an older her... an ax sliced through the walls of the room and smashed the witches to shards.

Blake's eyes opened to the morning. The ax was real. The witches were not.

She glanced through the cabin's window to her dad. He was chopping wood for the campfire. November 11th had been a long weekend, so what better way to spend it than camping at the Poconos. There was sarcasm in that sentence. Blake was going to freeze to death. There was no sarcasm in that sentence. She sat up and punched the body next to her. It groaned.

"Blaaaaaake, lemme sleep," Blake rolled her eyes. Cole.

She punched the other bodies only to be met with the same response. Asher. Felix. They were like her brothers. Not her brothers, but close. Their parents were all best friends. They grew up like quadruplets. Blake changed and stepped outside wearing light blue ripped jeans that matched her eyes, a black sweatshirt, Adidas, and her favorite hat. She had had the hat for as long as she could remember so she assumed it was from her real parents. She hoped. It was a plain light blue baseball hat but it was flatter. She swept her long dark hair into a low ponytail and got ready for the day.

The day consisted of a mountain hiking trail, (in which Blake beat all three boys to the top) a stop for lunch at Spicy Foods, (in which Blake ate the ghost pepper ice cream dessert with little to no reaction) an outdoor movie, (It was scary) and many more, suffice to say their camping activities could fill a whole storybook. At 6 p.m. Blake, Cole, Asher, and Felix were ready to start their campfire.

Blake poked at the fire with her twig. The parents were chatting near a different fire.

"So this is glam-ping?" Cole asked no one in particular.

"This is what your dad calls glam-ping," Asher retorted. Cole shoved him. Asher shoved him back.

"Guys, stop." Felix was always the peace-maker. Blake rolled her eyes.

"I'm bored, can we start s'mores yet?" Blake asked them.

"Actually first I have a scary story" Cole started, "This particular campsite is home to many black bears... as you all know. But there's one black bear that's a liiiiittle bigger than the rest, has sharper claws, sharper teeth - sharper mind... It's a smart bear. This bear grabs 12-year-old girls-"

"Okay stop." Blake interrupted, "You know you can't scare me,"

"She's right dude, we just watched The Shining and she was the only one who didn't scream," Felix recalled. Blake smiled proudly. It took a lot to make her scream.

"I'm not trying to scare you, but if you do get scared it's a bonus," Cole pumped his fist, "I'm just trying to warn you..." Asher gave him an exaggerated eye-roll. "Now, where was I? Aaaah, yes... this bear takes 12-year-old girls. Knocks them out then drags them to school where they are forced to learn princess stuff!" The boys burst out in laughter, Blake joined them. She had to admit though, that did seem scary.

All the boys stopped laughing and Blake took the hint to stop too. They stared at her. "What?" she questioned.

"Guys, stay calm," Felix addressed them, "Just slowly walk away and don't make noise. They don't have very good vision."

"No! you fool!" Asher hit Felix on the back of his head, "That's for T-rex's. You've been watching too much Jurassic Park. You have to scare it away."

Cole took his advice, "SHOO BEAR NO ONE WANTS YOU HERE!!"

Blake was frozen. "Wait, bEAR?!?" something grabbed her shirt and threw her against a tree. She blacked out.

The next several minutes were hazy. People screaming, "Blake!" Bears ferociously growling, and the regular whatnot. Finally, something grabbed her and she drifted off to sleep. And when she woke half an hour later, she knew she was no longer at her campsite.
