Chapter 9, Fire

I climbed up, and soon I was next to Ember's balcony. Everyone was watching. Ember saw me and used his old jacket as an umbrella. He came on his balcony. I climbed on and he let me inside. "What are you doing?" he asked. "I'm here to show you this," I said. I pulled out the wet piece of paper. He took it and started reading. "Good thing I know Fairy," he mumbled. He looked up at me. "Oh great," he said.

He gave me a towel he had in the suit case he brought. He let me sit in an old chair. "Is this why you risked your life to tell me?" he asked. I nodded. I was cold and wet. I was shivering in the towel. Someone knocked on the door. "Who is it?" growled Ember. "Professor Manley," answered the person knocking. Ember rolled his eyes and let him in. "I watched," he told me, "and I want Ember, Maleficent, and you to be in the Trail by Tale." Ember cheered. "Thanks," I chattered. I was still cold. "Next time, just wait," he said. "Ye-Yes s-s-sir," I replied. He left.

I sat there for a few more minutes. "Here, let me warm you," Ember said. He started breathing fire. It felt really warm. "Thanks," I said. "No problem," he replied. There was a knock on the door again. "Who is it?" said Ember, not growling this time. "Maleficent," said Maleficent. Ember opened the door. "The wolves want us back to our rooms," she said. "Keep the towel," Ember said. Maleficent and I walked back to our room. "Are you okay?" she asked. "Yeah, I'm just a bit cold," I replied.

As soon as we were in the room, Maleficent put her hands on my shoulders. "What happened?" she asked. I told her everything. She looked at me. "Free used ice to send me a note. She says we will all learn Nevers aren't friends," she said. "We can prove her wrong," I said. Maleficent suddenly looked at something. "How did you get a story book?" she asked. "I didn't," I replied. She walked by me and picked up a book from my bed. "It's the story book of the winners and losers," she said, "or The Winning Tales." I looked at the book. Maleficent opened up the book and sat on the bed. "Once open a time," she read, "there was a prince and poor girl. The poor girl was evil and wanted to make sure nobody could have the chocolate she wanted. The prince one say saw a bright light in an alley way. The girl was making a spell. The prince was tuned into an evil prince. The spell was put on the land and they were soon ruled by an evil king. Happily never after."

"That's a cool story," I said. "It was the latest fairy tale evil ever won," said Maleficent. "That will change soon," I assured her. "Yeah. Maybe. I hope," she said. "Oh, you can know," I said. "The Trail by Tale and Theater of Talents are near," I replied.
