Chapter 15:

How do you tell if you're in a daze? If you slam into a tree trunk you probably are.

Agatha grumbled under her breath, holding her forehead in pain.

She heard snickering and whipped around to see Beatrix smiling behind her hand. When Agatha gave her best creepy, twisted smile at her, Beatrix's face turned white with fear. Beatrix pulled herself together, sashaying past Agatha, bumping her on the shoulder.

"Sorry," she said in a hard voice. "Oh wait-- I'm not."

"Leave me alone," said Agatha.

Beatrix stopped walking, turning around and rolling her pretty blue eyes. "Why should I?"

"..."

Beatrix raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow.

"Well for starters... isn't it a little... mean--" Beatrix scoffed, "--to treat me like... that?"

Beatrix tapped her foot impatiently. Agatha's palms felt sweaty. Why did she start this conversation?

"And from what I can tell, you don't even like me, and I don't really like you," Agatha added.

"I don't," Beatrix agreed. "And I would leave you alone." Beatrix pursed her lips. "In fact, I want to leave you alone." Agatha crossed her arms, trying her best not to slouch, pulling into a defiant stance.

"Then why won't you?" Beatrix gave an exasperated sigh.

"I'm just... confused," she said.

"Confused because...?" Agatha pressed.

"Because I just don't get it!" Beatrix exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air. "Why would someone like--" Beatrix's eyes flashed "--like you get accepted to the School for Good?"

Agatha had kept asking herself that very same question. But why was it when someone finally said it out loud, it hurt so much?

Agatha didn't let that faze her though. Instead moved and got up right into Beatrix's face until they were nose to nose. Agatha glared at her. Beatrix flinched.

"I don't know," Agatha said in a dead voice.  "I don't know why I'm here. But I do know one thing..."

"And what is that?" Beatrix gave a small flip to her blonde hair. "That you have literally no sense in fashion? What are you, a maid?" Agatha felt like slapping her, but refrained, anger coiling inside her chest. All the past emotions of the day piled up inside her, ready to snap.

A voice banged around through her mind:"You wouldn't know good if it crawled up your dress!" It seemed like a... memory. But Agatha didn't remember ever saying that to someone.

maybe it's from an alternate universe, a different voice that sounded scarily similar to Ally's voice whispered in her ear.

The words suddenly started bursting from her mouth.

"You wouldn't know--"

"Hey! You two!"

It was another student.

"Why are you still hear? Princess Uma is waiting for us!"

"We'll be right over," Beatrix replied, her voice switching from snotty princess mode to extremely nice and cheery princess mode. "Sorry about that!"

Then she turned to Agatha.

"This conversation is not over," Beatrix said, walking away to where they were supposed to go. There's the snotty princess mode.

"It never even started," Agatha muttered under her breath.

***Beatrix used snotty princess. It was super effective (not really).***

The girls all stood together, chattering about what they had done with the animals.

"I started singing to this pretty bird, and soon it was singing along with me!" a girl said.

"No way! Me too!" another said.

"You should've seen me," Beatrix boasted to Reena. "I was talking to all these animals left and right! I have a lot of experience from the— my castle gardens. " She turned to Millicent. "How did you do?"

Millicent bit her pink, freshly-lipsticked lips. "Does chasing a squirrel around count as communicating?"

"Did it get scared?" Reena asked.

"Ya...?"

"Well, I suppose that counts. You communicated an emotion towards it."

"Phew! Thanks, Reena." Millicent beamed. "My great-grandma Briar could talk to all sorts of creatures. Oh! And she had this cool rose garden! I want to be just like her..."

Agatha was a the back of the group, staring down at her shoes. She examined the blades of grass like they were the most interesting thing she'd ever seen.

"Hey, Agatha!" Kiko called out, bounding over to her, black pigtails bouncing up and down. "What did you do? Did any animals talk to you? You wouldn't believe what happened to me! So I was trying to talk to the birds, but it wasn't working. Then this deer came out of the woods— it was sooo pretty! We stared into each others eyes and I felt this like deep connection..." Kiko continued blabbering on, until she realized Agatha still hadn't looked up. Kiko's eyebrows furrowed in concern. "Agatha, are you even listening to me?

"Huh? What?" Agatha's head shot up. "Who died? I mean— um y-yeah I'm listening." Kiko frowned.

"Did something happen?" Kiko asked.

"No," Agatha lied. "Nothing happened."

Just some rabbit was telepathically speaking to her, complimenting her whistling, then a hoard of animals surrounded her shouting about hearing her whistling and eating cookies. Don't forget about Agatha bumping into a tree. Then Beatrix got up her nerves. Not to mention the pounding headache she had after and was still lingering.

Nothing happened.

"Okay," Kiko replied suspiciously, not buying it.

Agatha forced a smile. "So, what were you saying about this deer—"

"SHHH!" a girl hissed back to them. "Be quiet. Princess Uma's giving us our scores!"

"Okay, sorry," Kiko whispered back. Kiko gave Agatha one last look and turned her face towards the front of the group.

Princess Uma was at the front of the small crowd of girls, her face scrunched up in deep thought. Agatha looked around at all the girls faces.

Agatha nudged Kiko with her elbow. "Do you know where Ally is?"

"Don't know," said Kiko. "Maybe she went off exploring? That girl is so strange."

"Yeah, she kind of is. At least she seems friendly enough—"

"SHHHH! Don't you two have any respect? Shut up!"

Agatha and Kiko shut up.

Agatha watched Princess Uma. Her round, innocent face looked off into the distance. She was talking to a bird, who squaked in her ear. When the bird flew away, Princess Uma turned to address the crowd of girls. "Before I give you your scores, I just want to say how happy I am to welcome you to your first year at the School for Good. I hope we can have a great year learning all about Animals and Communcation--"

The distant sound of wolves howling cut her off.

"Oh! Seems we have run out of time! Here's your scores!" Numbers appeared over top of everyone's heads.

Agatha wondered how Princess Uma even knew their scores without watching them during class.

Had she been... watching them somehow?

Now that's just creepy.

Agatha grimaced, slowly looking up to see her mark. She was expecting to see a 20, or a higher number. But, she was surprised to see that a blue 1 had appeared over her head.

She heard a huff, and looked to over to see Beatrix stomping away, muttering to the other girls how "that girl probably cheated or something".  Agatha wanted to grin in victory at that, but something held her back.

When all the other students had left, Agatha was still standing in the exact same spot, just blankly staring at her surroundings.

"Oh! Hello," a soft voice called out. Agatha turned to see Princess Uma returning from the forest, holding a rabbit that looked eerily similar to the one Agatha had talked to. "Shouldn't you get going now?"

Agatha nodded, but didn't move. Princess Uma flashed a concerned look over to her.

"Is there something wrong?" she asked.

"Why did I get first?" Agatha blurted. Princess Uma looked taken aback for a second, but then came back to herself.

"What do you mean?" Uma questioned.

Agatha fiddled with her thumbs. "Well, it's just..." She bit the inside of her cheek. "I guess I wasn't expecting it, that's all."

"Why would you think that?" Uma asked.

"I haven't exactly been doing very well," Agatha admitted. "I get it's only the first day, but so far... From what I can tell I also don't fit in very well. I just don't think this is all for me?" Princess Uma cocked her head.

"I don't know how well you've been doing in other classes, and I can't say I understand what your feeling, but I do know that you have an incredible talent." Agatha's eyes widened.

Talent... that rabbit had mentioned something like that.

Princess Uma took a step closer. She said, "What you did with those animals, how you understood them all... I haven't seen that in a long time. That's why you deserved to get first, because you were the best today."

"B-but what happened, that was all an accident!" Agatha protested. "The animals were the ones that were magical! They were the ones that talked to me! I wasn't— I'm not able to—"

"Believe what you want," Princess Uma said softly, smiling. "Deny everything, I won't try to convince you. But, I think that there is a lot more to you than meets the eye." Agatha went quiet, she brushed away the hair covering her right eye.

Agatha didn't say anything.

Princess Uma didn't seem to mind, and continued to stroke the rabbit in her arms. She gave a pleasant smile to Agatha, saying, "Go get along now, you might be late for lunch."

As Agatha turned and walked away, all she could hear was the same annoying voice of a certain rabbit, with his English accent whispering in her mind.

'I hope your tale turns out to be the very best, princess.'

***okay,  I love the rabbit now.***

Princess Uma watched Agatha leave.

"She's definitely... different," Uma said to the rabbit in her arms.

"Definitely," the rabbit agreed. "But, I can say that she's definitely ______.

"Definitely ______? How can you tell?" Uma asked.

"Just a hunch," the rabbit said. "Just a hunch..."

Agatha briefly recalled what was after Animal Communication.

Lunch.

(A/N ACTUALLY IT SHOULD BE HISTORY OF HEROISM—)

Agatha let out a huge sigh of relief. Sophie's go to might be makeup and salons, but Agatha had food. The one thing you could always count on...

Unless if it's "Healthy Food Choices with Sophie". Meaning flavourless soups and salads to last a lifetime.

Agatha made her way to lunch, ignoring the strange looks and whispers sent her way. She was getting better at it, she was pretty good at it in her village anyways. Besides, Agatha wouldn't blame them. Why would she? Agatha knew they were right about her bot belonging. Her time in Gavaldon showed her that much. Even seeing the Evil castle's exterior showed her. Agatha always liked villains. They were ruthless, stubborn, and always had goals they set out to achieve. Agatha thought some of them were misunderstanded people, and didn't deserve their sad fate.

Yet... There was something different about the Evil students... Something off. Something Agatha... wasn't?

Agatha rounded a corner too fast and bonked into someone's back, who was walking in the same direction, and heard a grunt.

"Sorry," she mumbled, brushing past them, glimpsing a wisp of curly blonde hair out of the corner of her eyes.

"It's okay," the boy's deep voice replied. "Just next time maybe watch..." The boy trailed off as Agatha blew right past him. "...Where you're going."

The boy peered suspiciously at where Agatha had just been. She had looked an awful lot like that girl who he had seen...

He let out a long breath. It was the first day of school, for Jack's sake! Get through the first day and then worry about Mystery Girl! He briefly closed his eyes, then continued towards lunch.

***the rabbit is seriously going to be in this book in the future or something**

Agatha herself was still walking. Agatha felt herself making a small smile, her back straightening a little out of her normal slouch, at the thought of hot food and the fact that Sophie would be there at lunch. They could finally talk about everything.

Lunch would be her safe haven.

***...hi?***

Agatha stepped into the light, using her hands to shield her eyes from the bright sun. When she brought her hands down, she looked at what was in front of her.

Her jaw dropped.

Oh.

Agatha rubbed her eyes in disbelief, hoping it was all an illusion.

You've got to be kidding me.

***YIPPEE! AGATHA'S FINALLY AT LUNCH! It has only taken 3 years! (I'm not joking)***
