Kidnapped
Chapter 5:
Her Father said protectively.
‟You don't have to do that!" Sophie said angerly. How was the schoolmaster supposed to get to her now?
‟Yes, I do. Now go eat dinner, please." Her Father replied a little bit more sternly then he meant to.
Sophie went to the dinner table and waited for her father. While she was waiting, she wondered about the school for good and evil (or SGE as we should call it so it doesn't take too long for me to write it). She thought over some of the many things she had wondered about over the years:
What will it be like? Will the school look nice? Will, there be people like me? And, will there be my perfect prince? As she thought this, her mind wandered to cucumbers, and until she could start thinking about it, she smelt a smell (that sounds weird) that she never smelt in a long time.
Chicken that just came out of the oven, and... wait... Sophie thought. Is that...
‟Hi Sophie," her father said, looking kinda funny with a big piece of chicken in front of his face.‟ I brought some chicken from Honora." Stefan then stopped and asked, ‟You know Honora right?"
"The woman that used to be friends with mother? Ya." Sophie said bitterly. She already heard about her from her late mother. Stefan gave Sophie a peculiar look and set the chicken on the table. "Father you know if I eat too much meat I look fat right?" Sophie protested though she hadn't had chicken in a while.
"Well I think you could eat some protein, and I brought some cucumbers over too," Stefan said showing Sophie some fresh cucumbers from his bag. Sophie sat down to eat when she realized that her father was not sitting down.
"Father where are you going?" she asked.
Stefan looked away and said, "Well, I'm going to Honora house to umm.... eat dinner there?"Sophie looked surprised when she heard this.
"You are? Why?"
"Because they invited me," Stefan said. "You would've come too, but I want you to stay here for your own protection. Maybe when the schoolmaster takes his pick this year, you can come over next time." With a forced smile, he bid Sophie good-bye.
Sophie stood up suddenly. She knew that she might never see her father again, so she stopped him in his tracks by asking, "Father, do you...... love me?" The last part came in a whisper.
Stefan smiled, confused. "Why, of course, I do, you don't have to ask to know that."
"Okay," Sophie said with a fake smile.
"Well, see you later sweetie," Stefan said as he stepped out the door.
Sophie kept that fake smile that she had practiced so often, as Stefan stepped out the door. As soon as he was gone Sophie frowned. She knew that Stefan didn't love her mother as he said (and that included Sophie too). He loved Honora and her two little boys, Josh and Keith. But, Sophie sighed. I'll have to go with it, she thought as she slowly ate her dinner.
Lets just pretend: Sophie finished her dinner, went through her nightly routine, went through her beauty routine, and put on a pink dress and waited because, I DON'T THINK YOU WANT TO HERE ALL OF THAT IN DETAIL:)
Agatha slowly walked home thinking about what just happened. I finally have a friend, she thought. A BEST friend to be exact. Agatha thought. Sophie had always made her feel ordinary, and that's the only thing that she ever wanted.
But, she had two problems:
1, she HAD to make sure Sophie wasn't kidnapped.
2, she could not be kidnapped, if she wasn't it would prove she was not a witch.
Agatha climbed Graves Hill till she reached the small house that looked like nobody lived in it (well, except for the welcome mat and the lights that were on). She opened the door to find Reaper staring at her with something in his mouth.
"What do ya got there?" Agatha asked as she crouched down to take the thing out of Reaper's mouth. "A dead bird? Not again Reaper. Don't do that or else the whole place would be full of dead birds and mother would make me pick it up." Agatha said as she scolded her cat. Reaper just smiled proudly, his hairless head turning around to go inside. Agatha just scowled.
She walked into her room and flopped on her bed and relaxed for what felt like 10 seconds when suddenly, she heard a voice that started singing:
Agatha rolled her eyes when she saw her mother Callis singing that ridiculous song again.
"Mother, what are ya doing?"
"Just packing your stuff up." Agatha looked at her peculiarly.
"What do you mean"? Agatha asked confused.
"For your time at the school for evil. You want to go there prepared don't you?" Agatha rolled her eyes. Her mother was one of the many other parents that believed in that stupid fantasy the school for stupidity and wackos, Agatha thought. She walked away over to the kitchen, dread suddenly rising in her.
If the school was real, Sophie would most likely go and she couldn't allow that. Sophie was the only thing that made her ordinary. If she wasn't there for her she would feel like a witch deep down and probably never smile again. She quickly devised a plan while eating dinner. She would spy on Sophie until she was sure that Sophie wasn't gone.
She finished her dinner and went to bed, ready to set her plan up as soon as mother went to bed. Suddenly she heard a small meow and saw that Reaper was on her bed. Agatha stared at him. "You know that you can't sleep here," Agatha mumbled. She grabbed Reaper and stroked his hairless skin while walking to her mother's room. She placed Reaper on her mother's bed.
Since her mother was still in the kitchen she had to stay with Reaper so he wouldn't leave, when she heard a noise behind her.
"Agatha?" Agatha turned around to see her mother behind her. She cringed at the way they looked so much alike. A dome of black hair, ghostly pale skin that looked like it never saw the light, and the worst part (or what Agatha thought) the large ladybug brown eyes that were looking at her right now.
"Thank goodness!" Agatha said. "Reaper keeps trying to escape, now that you're here he won't move". Agatha yawned. "Well, good night mother."
Agatha moved towards the door when Callis put a hand on her shoulder. "Wait." She said. Agatha rolled her eyes.
"What now?" Callis glared at her for the comment.
"Sorry," Agatha mumbled. Callis' eyes slowly turned soft and Agatha's eyes widened in the next words to come.
"Agatha it was really hard to find time to say this but... Just so you know I love you". Agatha always knew her relationship with her mother was strong, but was beginning to strain as she got older. Callis was always trying to get Agatha out of the house, make friends, have a great life, but Agatha was convinced that she wasn't meant to have a good life.
Agatha stared at her mother, not really knowing what to say. "I... I..." Agatha tried to say.
"It's okay sweetie, you can just go to bed now."Callis said, sounding sad. Agatha's eyes turned glassy.
"No, mother, I really do love you". Agatha said quietly. They hugged and stayed there for what felt like forever. When Agatha pulled away she actually smiled, a real smile.
"And look at that! Your real smile is so beautiful you look like another person." Callis said smiling. Agatha looked at her peculiarly and bade her mother goodnight. As she left she heard her mother whisper,
"Love you." Agatha smiled.
"I love you too." The last thing she saw was her mother snoring and Reaper staring at her with one blue eye on the left and green on the right.
She went to her room looking out the window thinking about the touching moment, smiling softly. She was beginning to become a non-witch by the second!
But to go back to business, set the plan up. She sat on her bed thinking if she should do it. She decided that she should. She got up and grabbed an empty backpack. She'd hate to admit it, but she was a little worried she might get kidnapped, so it was just in case. She started filling it up with storybooks, books she wrote, and she hated to admit it but, her teddy bear named Anthony who was a small brown bear with black eyes that she could not sleep without. She had told Sophie that she was going to throw it out when Sophie had asked about it, but as soon as Sophie left, she fished it out of the trash can, never showing Sophie here room until she was sure that there was nothing embarrassing in it.
She finally looked under the bed finding a scrapbook she used to fill out with a bunch of pictures. She flipped it open and scanned the pages. There was one with her playing in the weed when she was nine, one with Reaper chasing a mouse. The last one was a picture of her and Sophie, about a few years ago. Arms around each other, smiling happily. Sophie wearing a fluffy pink dress and glass slippers and Agatha in a black sack with her black clumps. Agatha smiled. She turned the page to find nothing after that photo. Agatha smiled sadly, remembering she had not taken a picture after that.
What am I doing? Agatha thought as she shoved the scrapbook away into her backpack. I'm supposed to spy on Sophie! Better get to it then... Agatha got up and slowly walked out the door, trying not to wake her mother when she saw two blue eyes staring at her, its body shaped like a shadow. Agatha silently gasped. The schoolmaster was real! She let out a relieved sigh when she realised he wasn't going for her.
Wait... She thought. Oh no!
She ran out the door into the clear cold night when with her realisation: Sophie. She thought that nobody heard her, but as she ran out the door, Callis held Reaper tightly, hoping that maybe Agatha would have a much better life then she had.
Agatha took one long glance at her house.
I wonder if I will see that house again... She shook the thought off and raced to Sophie's house, suddenly she saw a figure of a girl who put two thumbs up at her. Agatha blinked then the girl was gone. Must be a trick of the light, Agatha thought as she ran all the way to where everything would change.
**line break**
Sophie waited for what felt like a trillion years on her bed, until she saw a girl that was smiling up at her, with a backpack on her back through the window of her bedroom. The girl looked behind her and looked back at Sophie and smiled again as if she knew everything about Sophie and what was to become of her.
Sophie blinked, then the girl vanished. I think I'm hallucinating, Sophie thought.
She patted the tiny lump that could only be seen if you looked close enough. It was a pocket inside her dress, sewn all by herself. It was inside her dress because Sophie personally thought that pockets on pants or shorts made your hips look wider than they actually are. It was only for emergencies. In this case, besides the bag of all of it, there was a pouch of cucumbers that could last for a year inside the secret pocket. It also had an emergency lip gloss, blush and a hairbrush. But importantly the picture of her and Agatha on the first day they became friends. She had taken a copy of the photo and Agatha had too.
She sighed and fluffed her hair a little bit, looking into the mirror. Perfect, she thought. I look like a princess act like a princess, and I am a prin- Sophie suddenly saw Agatha rushing towards her house like a maniac. Sophie only had to take one look from her friends face, to see what had happened.
She saw him! Sophie thought. Agatha had seen the schoolmaster! Sophie fluffed her dress and waited. Boom Boom Boom. Sophie heard a loud sound coming from her door. She looked at it expecting a lovely carriage to take her away. But all she saw was her father. Her father came in out of breath.
"I saw something out there." Suddenly Stefan was knocked out and a shadow of a man came in, grabbed Sophie by the arms and ran.
"You know... I was expecting a footman or a carriage you know." Sophie said to the schoolmaster. Adults shouted and dived after Sophie but nobody caught her. Sophie realised something. The second child wasn't here! She was wrong about Agatha!
Goodbye ordinary life! Hello, new one! She thought.
Time slowed down as she descended into the forest. If Sophie knew what would happen she would've tried to get away but she didn't. That's when it happened. Sophie saw Agatha charging up to her. Sophie thought of only two words to say.
"AGGIE NO!!!"
