Chapter 1
Sam and his friends go into the school bus, that is going to Canada, for a class trip. Everybody takes a seat. Sam sits first of all, and Eric takes a seat beside him. Sam whispers to Eric.
- I had a nightmare. It was about this bus. Something terrible is going to happen.
Eric whispers back.
- It was just a nightmare, okay?
- How do you explain that we sit on the exact same places as we did in my nightmare, then?
Eric shrugs his shoulders.
- I don't know. A coincidence, maybe?
The bus driver starts the motor. Some of the classmates watching/chatting on their phones, some of them reading books, some of them make gimme five. Just like in the nightmare. Sam looks terrified. Eric looks at him.
- What is it?
- The bus is going to fall over!
Eric looks at him, confused.
- What do you mean?
- It happened in my nightmare. But... it doesn't seem to happen now.
Sam sees that everybody starts to look at him, and they mumble about him.
- Why do they mumble about me?
Eric shrugs his shoulders.
- I don't know. Your reaction was a little too much.
The bus driver turns the song "Blinding Lights" on, by The Weekend, with the cd-player. Everybody, except Sam, sings to it. Eric looks at Sam.
- Come on... sing! Everybody here loves this song. How about you?
Sam shakes his head.
- I have more important things to think about right now...
- Okay...
Eric starts to sing with the others, again. Sam looks out through the window. It's cloudy and misty.
- No WONDER the school bus crashed in my nightmare... No one should drive in this weather. Not even the bus driver. But... no one here can control the weather, unfortunately.
The song in the bus goes on repeat, because everyone of his classmates loves it so much. Sam has to hold for his ears, to think about something else. Suddenly, Sam sees two eyes that look at him, outside of the window. The eyes look demonic. Sam starts to scream, and everybody in the bus, except the bus driver, that needs to concentrate on the driving, turns around and looks at him. Eric stares at him.
- You scared me, Sam!
- I was scared too! I just saw two scary, demonic eyes, from my window!
Eric shakes his head.
- You've gone too far...
- You have to believe me!
- No, and again, no.
Eric looks forward, on the road. Sam sighs.
- The worst thing about this isn't Eric's doubt about what I saw. It's WHAT I saw...
Sam looks out through the window again. The eyes are gone. Sam looks forward, on the road. The bus driver starts to play classical music, Cantata No. 147, by Bach. Sam loves that song. He turns to Eric.
- This song is one of the best classical music pieces that exist, in my opinion.
- Then you may have heard every classical music piece that exist on this planet, Eric says, sarcastically.
Sam looks at Eric, wondering if he meant it nicely, or just to be mean. He is pretty sure that it's a nice joke, because they are best friends.
- No, I haven't... what is your favorite classical song?
Eric thinks a while. Sam wonders if he ever going to tell him. Suddenly, he says it.
- In the Hall of the Mountain King, by Edvard Grieg. It's so cool!
Sam nods.
- I agree.
Eric makes a fist bump with Sam.
- Nice!
- Me and Eric has the same taste in many things. Like, for example, our clothes. Without knowing it before, we both have black sweatshirts and blue jeans today. Sometimes, I wonder if we're related.
Sam looks out through the window. This time, he sees the full creature. He doesn't know what it is, but it's green, with black demonic eyes. The creature stares at Sam, with an angry grimace. Sam looks terrified. He knocks on the window, hard, to make it disappear.
- You aren't real! Stop it!
Sam looks at the road again, and shuts his eyes.
- It's just imagination, it's just a nightmare, it isn't real, it's fake, the thing I saw wasn't true, it doesn't exist.
Eric knocks Sam on the back. Sam opens his eyes.
- What?
- Are you crazy? You can't just... scream like that, and be annoying all the time. I don't want to be a bad friend. I just don't want you to be outlaughed some day.
Sam sighs.
- The creature outside the window... I'm sure it's real, now. It wasn't in my nightmare, but I think it was that thing who made the bus crash.
- It's just your imagination. I heard how you talked about that before.
Sam shakes his head.
- No, it isn't imagination. I just wanted to believe in that it wasn't real, to stop being so scared.
Eric look at Sam, seriously, to show that he doesn't believe him, and that he have had enough of Sams "imaginations".
Sam looks out throught the window, to see if the creature are there, but it isn't there anymore. An annoying sound comes from the bus roof. Everybody holds for their ears, except Sam, that wants to know what it is. He looks up at the bus roof, that nobody else looks at. The other classmates are shutting their eyes while holding for their ears, because the sound is so loud. The creature is there. It stops screaming and jumps down to the bus floor. It runs down under Sam's seat. Sam tries to kick the creature away, but it doesn't move. It's too hard. The creature takes a big rock from nowhere, and smashes the bus wall with it. Sam can't let this go on.
- Go away!
Sam tries to smash the creature with his phone, but the phone gets broken. He looks shocked.
- Oh no! My phone is broken! Now I can't call anyone...
Sam looks around. No one is there.
- What?
Sam wakes up from the nightmare. He is in the bus again. All classmates, except Sam and Eric, chatters with each other. They talk about how fun it's going to be to travel to Canada.
- I LOVE maple syrup! Did y'all know that it's originally from Canada?
- Me too! Especially on pancakes. Yummy...
- I can't believe it, we're finally traveling to Canada. It's our longest school trip EVER!
Sam doesn't hear them. The only thing he can think about is the scary, evil creature. And the green, hard skin on it. The scary nightmare about the creature was just too much. Now he knows what is going to make the bus crash. The creature. He looks at Eric. Eric talks in his sleep.
- Why are you driving the wrong way? I don't want to die...
Sam look at the bus driver.
- The bus driver...
Sam looks in the bus driver's mirror, thoroughly. Without the mirror, he would look totally normal, but in the mirror, he looks like the creature. Sam goes up from the bus seat.
- Stop the bus!!
Suddenly, the bus driver drives, as Eric said in his sleep, in the wrong direction. Sam looks around at everyone.
- This bus driver, right here in this bus, is not what you think he is. He's not a person... He's a scary creature!
