Chapter 2

Hey guys! Changed this chapter up, it was just kind of bothering me and so I changed it a little. I wanted to include Ron and Hermione more in this chapter, so I did that as well. Hope you enjoy!

Harry's POV

I don't know how long I was sitting on the cold, wet grass right under the tree.

All I do know, is every part of me was numb and freezing to the touch. My fingers were wrinkled from the rain and I could no longer feel them.

If I get lucky. I'll die of hypothermia.

Why is it that nothing in my life goes right? My parents died, my aunt, uncle, and cousin abuse me, I got a psychopath who wants to hunt me down, kill me, and probably slaughter the rest of the wizarding race along with me, Umbridge is taking away my entire school life from me, taking me from my friends and the only family I have and putting me in the same house as the person who hates me more than anything.

Life just sucks. In all honesty.

If I had to guess, curfew is just around the corner. Part of me didn't care, but after the long exhausting day I had, I didn't want to deal with anymore drama, so I stood and wiped the tears from my eyes, fixing my glasses back on my face more properly.

When I entered back into the school, the halls were silent. No one was in sight.

I started my path up the stairs towards the Gryffindor common room, mud trailing behind me. My footsteps reverberated around me.

I was halfway there when I paused. Realizing how stupid I was being. The Gryffindor common room is no longer my home, at least for the time being, but how can I call a place I hate my home? Slytherin won't ever be my home. I belong to Gryffindor, despite what everyone else says.

I turned on my spot and began my descent to the dungeons instead. My arms wrapped around me to keep at least a little bit of warmth, despite my soaking wet clothes and skin.

"Harry!" For a moment I thought for sure a professor had caught me or something and my stomach plummeted, but a familiar pair of arms wrapped around me from behind. "Oh Harry, we've been so worried!" Hermione cried.

"Where have you been, mate? We've been looking everywhere," Ron said.

Hermione let me go I and looked at both of them.

"Have you been outside? You're soaked to the bone." Hermione pulled her wand out and muttered a drying spell under her breath. I instantly felt warmer.

"Yeah, I didn't want to be bothered," I commented.

Hermione and Ron frowned. "You know this means nothing, right? It's just Umbridge trying to get a reaction and to separate us," Ron stated

I sighed. "Yeah, I know. It's just frustrating, really."

Hermione and Ron both nodded in agreement.

"They've already got our stuff moved to our new dorms. I'm going to miss Gryffindor." Hermione's face contorted in hurt and misery. I don't think any of us will like this situation very much at all.

"It's not permanent," Ron reminded.

She agreed, but still looked down.

"I'd much rather be placed in Ravenclaw than Slytherin," I remarked.

"Oh Harry, I'm so sorry. Umbridge did a really twisted thing. We'll all try to stay connected though, maybe only spend time in the different common rooms at night," she suggested.

"Yeah, good idea. We'll figure something out."

I nodded at my two best friends. They're right, after all. This isn't permanent and it's not like I'll have to force myself to stay there all day. I can still hang out with my friends during class and in the library and other such activities.

"What are you three doing out here?" Professor McGonagall came around the corner and spotted us.

"Sorry professor, we were just saying goodnight," Hermione excused.

You could see the pained look on McGonagall's face. She obviously disapproved these new conditions.

"Yes. I am sorry, you three. For now though, it is best to follow school rules and head to your dorms, before someone catches you," she reminded.

The three of us bid each other goodnight and separated. Ron headed for Gryffindor, Hermione to Ravenclaw, and me to Slytherin.

The dungeons were cold and unpleasant like they always were when we have potions down here. The icy chill running down your spine.

It wasn't until I was in front of the entrance to Slytherin, the same one I discovered during second year, that I realized something else that had me groaning in misery.

I don't know the password.

I placed my back against the wall opposite of the entrance and slid down to the ground. I rubbed my temples in frustration and closed my eyes.

The thought occurred to me that I could just ask someone or go find a professor, but the only professor other than the headmaster that would know the passcode is Snape and there is no way I'm going to him for help. I don't have any friends in Slytherin either, so it's not like I could ask them.

As if Merlin himself answered my prayers, the door to the entrance slid open and a figure emerged.

"Potter?" Called a voice.

My head whipped up and green clashed with grey.

"What in Merlin's name are you doing on the ground?" The blonde asked.

I shrugged and stood up. "Didn't know the password."

Malfoy stepped aside to allow me entrance. "You could have just knocked."

"In the snakes lair? Funny," I mocked.

He rolled his eyes. "Just get in before I shut you out for the rest of the night."

I followed him into the common room. Nothing of the room had changed from when I had previously been in here when I was twelve.

It was still cold and poorly lit.

There were some Slytherins still lurking around and I avoided eye contact with any of them.

In the back part of the room was a slightly hidden area with a leathered sitting area facing out to a window that showed underneath the lake.

Interested, I went over and sat down, gazing out, hoping the eyes of the other Slytherins would leave me alone. All but one did.

"Can you stop the staring? It's annoying," I commented.

"No, I'd rather not." Malfoy, surprisingly, sat beside me.

I rolled my eyes. "Why can't you just leave me alone?"

"Because sadly, you're in my house now. How that happened, I don't know."

"It's complicated." Malfoy looked at me as if I was crazy. Then realization hit him.

"You knew you were going to be placed in Slytherin, didn't you?"

I just nodded my head yes.

"What? How is that even possible?"

"Like I said Malfoy. It's complicated."

"Whatever Potter," he remarked and looked out the window.

It's weird. To be in the same room as Malfoy and yet, we're not fighting. Well, we're not being chivalrous, but it's not our usual hatred nonsense either.

News of my arrival seemed to have reached the others and some of the other Slytherins came out of their dorms to take a look if it was true.

If the heroic Gryffindor was now truly a Slytherin.

Even Zabini came down and was the only one who dared to come over to the two of us. He stood by Malfoy, eyeing me suspiciously.

"This isn't some prank, is it?" He asked. "You're actually staying here as a Slytherin?"

I scoffed. "Trust me, it won't be for long if I have anything to say about it."

Zabini quirked an eyebrow. "Oh really? Haven't you gotten yourself in enough of a mess?" He tested.

"What's one more?" I challenged.

He shrugged. "Definitely a Gryffindor, I'll give you that. Welcome to Slytherin, I suppose."

"Sarcastic much," I remarked.

"Comes with the territory." He brushed off.

The other students were whispering among themselves. Some were unenthusiastic about my arrival and the fact that this indeed was no prank.

Others seemed angry and turned to stare mockingly at me.

There were few pleasant faces, but some did seem weirdly fine with it. Almost a look of unusual understanding. Like they were thinking that only the Harry Potter could seem to get himself stuck in this kind of predicament.

Of course, they're not wrong.
