The Scars on my Skin (2)
The three met up at the gate with all their stuff ready. Neji saw Layla but didn't say anything to her because of what his uncle said about her clan. 'But she doesn't look like she could terrorize anyone. But then again, I wasn't born when everything took place.' He thought. "Alright let's get going." Neji said to the others and started walking. The others followed Neji, Layla pulled out her book and started reading to ignore the two. Sasuke saw Neji motioned him to come closer. "What?" He asked. "Keep your voice down. My uncle told me about her clan and what her clan did to the village hence why the village hates Layla." Neji whispered. "Well what is the reason?" Sasuke whispered. "Layla's clan caused lots of chaos and trouble. The clan went so far to give death threats to my clan and threatened to burn the compound down." Neji explained. Sasuke stared at him as he glanced at Layla, who was still reading her book. "That's the reason why the village hates her since she was part of the clan who threatened and caused chaos in the village." Sasuke muttered. Neji nodded, "On another note, my uncle said to watch her, just in case she tries to pull something." He whispered. Sasuke nodded as he kept glancing at Layla from time to time.
After a while, Neji told the group to take a small break. Layla sat against a tree as she crossed her legs Indian style. She did a quick jutsu as she closed her eyes and started meditating. The boys pressed themselves against another tree and watched her. "Do you think Layla was apart of the whole chaos thing with her clan?" Sasuke mumbled. Neji sighed, "I don't know, it's hard to say." Neji said back. "If you have a question, say it to my face and be a man. If not, keep my name out of your mouth." Layla called out to them and opened her eye to look at them. Sasuke swore under his breath since he was caught talking about her but he wants to know if she was apart of terrorizing the clan. "Layla...were you helping your clan terrorized the village years ago?" He asked him. Neji felt his heart stop, 'Crap...I didn't know he would directly ask that without getting a kunai to the throat.' He thought. Layla looked at Sasuke with a poker face before sighing, "I wasn't even conceived yet and my clan just went off with the village. It happened for years even after my birth, but I never helped them. They didn't want the village to know I existed." She answered.
Sasuke stared at her, "Didn't want the village to know you exist?" Layla nodded, "Yep...That's all you're getting out of me." Neji looked ahead, "Break is over...let's get back to the mission." He said to the group. The other two nodded and started walking. Layla looked at the sky for a bit before looking at her arms that were covered by her jacket. She lifted up her sleeves and saw faint scars on them, she sighed quietly as she examined her arm. Neji looked at Sasuke, "I didn't know you would actually tell her what we were talking about." He says to her. Sasuke huffs a bit, "She wanted to know why her name was involved." He said to him. "I'm surprised we didn't get a kunai to the throat." Neji muttered. Sasuke 'hn' softly and kept walking.
-timeskip to the night-
The trio had been walking all day and stopped for the night. Sasuke gathered some wood to start a fire. Layla got comfortable against a tree as Neji looked at the map. "We're a good 20 miles away from the Land of Birds." Layla called out. Neji looked at her, "I didn't even say anything." "The look on your face was telling how many miles we were from the place. I have good sense of direction. Right now we are still heading north. At the 20 mile mark we go east, 5 miles that way and we reached the Land of Birds." She said. "Plus I looked at the map and did calculations earlier." She pointed out. The boys stared at her with wide eyes, "Since when did you take the map?" Sasuke asked her. "When you two were taking a piss." Layla answered. Sasuke finished gathering the sticks and put them in a pile. He was going to did his fire ball jutsu to light it but Layla beaten him. "Fire Style: Fire breath Jutsu." She took a deep breath and blew on the sticks. The sticks caught on fire as Layla stopped her jutsu and caught up a bit of smoke along with some blood.
Neji walked to her and got a better look at her mouth, "You just caught up blood." He pointed out and went to grab her face to get a closer look. "Back off Hyuga...it's part of my curse." Layla hissed at him. He shook his head, "Byakugan." He looked at her chest and saw her lungs were scarred from fire usage. "Your lungs are damaged from your fire breathing jutsu." Neji said to her. Layla huffed at him, "You get a curse that controls an element and your organs are going to get damaged. It's an after effect. I only use it when I want to but can't use to much or...." "Or what?" Sasuke asked. "Or I'll die from the after effects since my curse relies on my chakra. If my chakra starts going low, it will be hard to contain the curse from burning my internal organs from within." "So what is the purpose of meditation that you pointed out to Lady Tsuande?" Neji asked. "It's to make sure the fire within me stays calm and in place to make sure my organs don't get damaged, especially my vital organs." Layla explained. Neji nodded and wiped the blood off the corner of her mouth with a small smile on his face.
Sasuke stared at the sky, "I didn't know your curse was that deadly." "It's worse than that. If the curse sees the user unworthy of the power, the curse kills the user itself by burning the organs from within." Layla said. The boys stared at her, "It's more deadly than I thought." Neji said to Sasuke as he kept wiping the blood off the corner of Layla's mouth. "You don't have to do that." Layla said as she pulled her head out from his grip, but Neji kept her head still. "I want to do it." His hand that wasn't wiping off the blood moved to Layla's right bang to push it out the way but she threw her head back, "No." She muttered and lays on the ground. Neji sighed a bit and walked back to where his stuff was. Sasuke growled quietly at what Neji did to Layla but kept watching her as she got ready to sleep.
After a few minutes, Layla went to sleep as she lays on her back with her left eye closed. Sasuke quietly waited for a few minutes before he crept to where Layla was to look at her right eye that she always keep covered. Neji saw what Sasuke was going to do and went over there. "Stop. She'll kill you." He whispered. The Uchiha ignored the smartass Hyuga and slowly moved right bang away from her face. The boys stared at her eye. It had a bad scar on it that started at her forehead and stopped at her cheek. What made it worse was the eye itself was glowing softly under her eyelid.
The boys froze when the right eye slowly opened to reveal a glowing pupil as it looked at them. Sasuke was about to run for the hills when Layla woke up but she never did woke up. Neji slowly waved his hand in front of her eye, "I think she's blind or something in this eye since the eye isn't following my hand movements." Neji whispered to Sasuke. The Uchiha slowly calms down and fixed her bang back over her eye before going back to his stuff. "That was scary, I thought she was going to kill us." Sasuke said to the Hyuga. "Agreed. Let's get some sleep and pretend we didn't see her eye." Neji said and lays down then goes to sleep. Sasuke nodded and lays down himself before drifting off to sleep.
