Diagon Alley
I jumped out of bed and ran down the hall to Uncle's room.
"Uncle, Uncle, let's go to Diagon Alley!" Uncle had sort of shut down in the last five years. He almost always spoke in a monotone, and he was much colder to everyone, except for me. He said I looked exactly like my mum.
He grumbled, "Go away." Obeying as always, I got breakfast ready. Delicious cereal for everyone! By the time Uncle came down, I was done eating and was on the drab couch reading the latest issue of Witch Weekly. Uncle ate slowly, and it took all my effort to keep my excitement contained, though I didn't succeed very well.
"Scarlet! Put those down." I looked up, confused. I wasn't carrying anything. Then I heard a crash. Oh. Uncontrolled magical abilities. Uncle was just standing there, shellshocked.
"You just picked up all the furniture in the room," he said, looking shocked.
"I never knew anyone who could do that. Except for Lily," he muttered the last part. I said, changing the subject, "Let's go!"
"Grab your acceptance letter, Scarlet," he drawled. I had read it so many times since I had gotten it on my birthday, the 1st of January.

I grabbed his arm and felt the alltoofamiliar sensation of being sucked through a rubber tube. When I had been leaving with Uncle the first time, I had vomited. We ended up in Diagon Alley. It never ceased to amaze me that such a large area containing so many witches and wizards could keep out Muggles. I looked up to see Gringotts. "Our first stop." said Uncle. "We'll have to set you up an account, seeing that it is your first year." I looked up and saw the
famous inscription engraved in the marble.
Enter, stranger, but take heed
Of what awaits the sin of greed For those who take, but do not earn,Must pay most dearly in their turn. So if you seek beneath our floors
A treasure that was never yours, Thief, you have been warned, beware Of finding more than treasure there.
"My own account?" I was honored. I didn't know Uncle thought I was responsible enough. Uncle got me my key made, then we went on the long, sickening car ride to Uncle's vault. He got a bag of money and we got back on the cart to ride back. When we got off, I noticed that Uncle looked slightly green.
I walked into Potage's Calderon Shop, eyeing a shining silver calderon. Uncle noticed.
"No. Absolutely not." I groaned and picked up the assigned pewter calderon sadly. I slowly lead Uncle to Flourish and Blotts. Uncle told me he had to pick up some potion supplies, so I bought the rest of my things on my own.
Finally, it was time to get my wand. I practically ran over to Ollivander's, I was so excited. I entered, the bell clanging cheerfully behind me and Ollivander just looked at me and said, "You must be Severus's." I nodded slowly. How did he know this? I shook it off.
"Well, we'd better get started." I nodded again. I wasn't usually this quiet. I wasn't sure I liked Ollivander.
"Willow and dragon heartstring, 91⁄2 inches, quite whippy." I waved it, feeling quite silly.
"Nope!" He snatched it away. After what felt like an eternity of wandwaving, he pulled out a beautifully polished twisty wand.
"Hazel and phoenix feather, 131⁄4 inches, reasonably supple." I waved it and felt warmth flood through me.
"That is a powerful wand paired with a powerful witch. Be careful... be careful." Uncle had just walked in and was quietly listening to Ollivander.
"Hazel wands are very loyal and cannot be used by none other than the true owner, and are marvelous at finding water sources. Phoenix feather cores are the most powerful," Ollivander continued.
After that, Uncle took me to Magical Menagerie to get an owl. As soon as I had walked in, I had found her. She was a beautiful stormy bluegray owl with black tipped wings. I brought my owl to the counter and paid the nine Galleons required. I decided to name her Storm.
