Part Four

"I'm going to bed," Tyler stated. It was early, but he was drained. When he got into bed we both knew he wasn't going to find sleep any time soon.

"What do you mean, why didn't you have a choice?" asked Anthony, sitting next to him with eyes full of interest.

"You didn't scare a vampire, did you?" I asked, more to mess with Tyler than anything else. Tyler replied sarcastically through the bond and I told him to sleep.

"No, I didn't even know what was going on, or who they were," Shane started. We were all more than willing to hear his story, all of us except Tyler that is. He was supposed to be asleep anyway, so he stayed quiet.

Shane had just turned of the drinking age the night it had happened. He was one of those who went to get drunk as soon as they could. Looking back on it, he says, he wished he wouldn't have. His friends had left without him and he was walking home, hardly aware of his surroundings.

He was stumbling on the sidewalks when a few guys who appeared his age approached him. They mentioned some awesome new club nearby and Shane had agreed to go with them. It hadn't seemed suspicious to him how out of the way the club had been, but everything was too new for him. He thought that maybe it was a thing nobody told you about until you were old enough. He was wrong, however, and hadn't known just how much longer he would live to regret that moment.

The two he'd met just minutes ago had lured him into one of the underground systems and people thought he was just going to be used as a resource. They gave him looks and left the other two to do their own business. He was then brought to a home and turned. When he became functional again the two from earlier explained things to him, rather briefly, and kicked him out.

He wondered the tunnel systems, not knowing what else to do. The only thing keeping him from going home was fear. He feared of not being able to control himself around his human relatives, he feared the sun, and he feared rejection.

As he walked around the lady he now knew as his grandma approached him. She asked him what had happened and was glad to take him in. At that point it was just him and angeline, now his sister. She soon had a child, but the father left soon after. He explained for us that if you were born vampire you would grow until the age of twenty.

From then, the family continued to grow as they fostered many other alone vampires, many with a story similar to his own. He'd never fully be able to thank his grandma enough, and neither would members of his new family. Of course, some had left since him. Not a lot of people would willingly stay in one place for ninety years.

He told the story in a way that I had become part of it. The emotions telling it had brought onto him were inflicted on me and it became real.

"What's your grandma's story?" Anthony asked. Tyler had started drifting into sleep and the rapidly approaching daylight hours started to make me drowsy.

"She wanted to be turned," said Shane. He stretched his arms and continued his explanation. "She was ill and the person who'd turned her assured her she'd stay around. She hadn't, but my grandma got along anyway."

"Do you know where the people who turned you are now?" I asked, in his eyes I saw something. I wondered if he'd known about our bond.

"No, I tried going back to them but they changed location," he said, suddenly turning cold inside.

"Why did you want to go back?" I asked, almost crossing a few lines. He didn't answer me but the strong feeling radiating off of him told me it wasn't good. Maybe his turners were smart to have left.

"Are you okay?" asked Tyler through our bond. "You seem disturbed."

"I'm okay," I replied, starting to lay next to him. He put a limp arm around me as I did. I started to block out Shane's lingering emotion because Tyler had begun to worry. There was shuffling around the room and then there was silence. We all had let the rising sun force sleep upon us and Anthony was more than willing to adapt for the greater cause put upon him.

That morning we all had woken up at similar times, except Anthony, who soon found himself awoken due to the rest of our chatter. Tyler and Shane still weren't very friendly, so most of the chatting occurred between either Shane and I or Tyler and I. Anthony had stayed quiet this morning, probably deep in thought. I hoped he wasn't starting to have second thoughts. I didn't exactly hate being a vampire yet, but I still wished to be human.

While we talked, I started to explore the second bond. I was positive it was Shane, though I wasn't so sure how it would work. I already knew that Tyler couldn't use the bond with Shane, though he could feel any emotion Shane felt that was strong enough to be forced onto me.

I decided to take a step forward and said, "hey," to who I hoped was Shane. I tried to let that only be open to him, and I was sure I'd succeeded because Tyler would have responded by now. Even if it were to ask why I was using the bond, he would have replied. "Shane?" I asked.

Shane had gone quiet in real life but I soon got a response out of him. "Merci?" I was right.

I wanted to talk to Shane about the bond alone, so I stood and told them all, "I'm going downstairs for breakfast. Shane, can you come with me?"

"I'll come too," said Tyler, sitting up. I shook my head.

"You need to stay with Anthony," I told him. Before he could suggest Shane stay I said, "Shane knows this place, we don't."

He slumped back onto the bed, and I almost regretted making this decision. "I'm not that much younger than you guys, I can stay alone," said Anthony. He hadn't wanted to be an issue to us.

"Not in a place full of unknown vampires. You remember what happened to Shane," I said. He nodded, and they both seemed to realize that I wasn't going to budge. Shane was at my side and he led me downstairs.

"Don't ask me how we're bonded, it just happened. The night you were turned," he said, not looking me in the eyes.

"If you knew about it, why didn't you tell me?" I asked in disbelief.

"Because, I thought I was crazy. I didn't exactly know what a bond felt like, I just knew the basic information about them," he'd stated. "Does your other bondmate know?"

"Not yet," I said softly, looking up at him. He stopped a few steps below me, allowing us to be face to face.

"I don't think he should be left in the dark," he told me. For once, not talking down about him. Although he still refused to speak Tyler's name he looked at me solemnly with his light brown eyes. He was serious, and if I didn't tell Tyler, he would.

A/N So, I would like to know, do you prefer Shane or Tyler? I had fun creating a past for Shane, and I hope you guys enjoyed reading it.
