Chapter 2: A Friendship Rekindled

The next day had come as you were at your locker, idly shuffling through the contents and picking out which items to take with you to classes.

(Y/N): *sigh* What do you think I should do, man?

You asked as the locker next to yours closes shut, revealing Flash to be on the other side of it.

Flash Sentry: What can you do, Y/N? It's really more of a matter between those girls. I recall them being a lot closer in freshman year, but I guess they sort of drifted apart.

(Y/N): I still can't help but think Sunset had a part in it.

Flash Sentry: Wouldn't surprise me. Speaking of, did she come to you at all today?

(Y/N): No. I mean, I saw her a couple of times in the hallway, but I knew to hide. Though, I did end up encountering her yesterday.

Flash Sentry: *sigh* Of course. Well, did she do anything to you?

(Y/N): I...think she was going to molest me.

Flash Sentry: Seriously? I didn't think she'd go that far. I've never even reached that point with her, not that I'd want to. So...you're saying she's got the hots for you?

(Y/N): I mean, she was making the most perverted expressions I've ever seen on a girl, not to mention she almost literally dragged me to the girls' locker room to have her way with me, so...

Flash Sentry: Oh... that's... way worse than I thought.

(Y/N): Yeah, I tried to get a restraining order on her, but...apparently the law doesn't allow restraining orders on minors, *sigh* even if we're the same age.

Flash Sentry: I'd say go to Principal Celestia for this, but... we all know how flawed the justice system is. Besides, I'm sure Sunset would come back at you ten times worse than before. She may even think you're playing hard to get.

Closing your locker, you made your lungs puff out another sigh.

(Y/N): She's a whole different story though. The main priority on my mind right now is how I'm gonna get the girls back together. If I had a way to sit them all down and talk it out, I would do it... probably.

You said the last word with a hint of hesitation due to your social anxiety.

(Y/N): How much time until classes start, by the way?

Flash checks the time on his phone.

Flash Sentry: About twenty minutes. Why?

(Y/N): I need some time to think. I'm gonna head to the library to clear my head. I'll meet up with you when first period classes start.

Flash Sentry: Alright then. Meet you there, Y/N.

(Y/N): Stay safe, Flash.

Closing up your lockers, you and Flash parted ways as you made your way to the library. The quiet atmosphere there would surely help you think of your next move.

A minute of walking is all it takes for you to reach your destination as you observe the many books lined up on shelves, alphabetical in every subject.

(Y/N): *thinking* Hmm... I wonder how long it would take for a person to read through all these books? Way too long, I'd imagine.

You paused and knocked the side of your head.

(Y/N): *thinking* Come on, focus will you? You came here to help solve the girls' dilemma.

Your eyes wander back to the books.

(Y/N): *thinking* Although... I guess it wouldn't hurt to look a little. I may just come up with a plan by reading a book or two.

Not really looking for a specific book, you took a random one off a shelf and opened it only to discover that it was a yearbook, an older one at that.

(Y/N): *thinking* *sigh* Not really what I had in mind, but I guess this will do.

Casually, you flipped through the yearbook's pages as you took note of all the documented events that took place.

(Y/N): *thinking* Huh... I didn't expect a school to have something akin to the Olympic Games. Though... Why would they call it the "Friendship Games"?

Your enthusiasm was almost immediately dimmed when you saw the number of times CHS lost to its competitors.

(Y/N): *thinking* Dang. Either this Crystal Prep Academy has some really talented students or... CPA's just plain bad. They seem less friendly for an event called the "Friendship Games".

You turned the next set of pages and saw a few more events such as the Spring Fling. There, you saw a younger image of Sunset Shimmer who appeared to be smiling ear to ear, except the smile looked genuine.

(Y/N): *thinking* I guess Flash was right about her being sweet at first. I still don't understand how she got to the point she's at today.

You were only able to think on that for about two seconds before the girl on the left caught your eye, this one being a younger looking Rarity.

(Y/N): *thinking* Wait... Rarity?

You thought before really taking in the whole image. Both Rarity and Sunset stood by each other while wearing different outfits that closely resembled princess dresses.

(Y/N): *thinking* Is... she competing against Sunset for princess of the Spring Fling? But... she looks so happy here. The last time this was mentioned, she didn't even want to say a word about it. Why would she be embarrassed about this?

The next page showed an image of Sunset as she proudly wore the crown for princess on her head.

(Y/N): *thinking* But somehow... Sunset seems to have won that. I guess Rarity was too ashamed to talk about her loss. But... Rarity doesn't seem like the type to gloss over her failures.

Shaking your head in puzzlement, you turned the page again and stopped on one page that really made you real back. It was a photo of the girls who all looked younger, sure, but looked to be having a great time during an event called the Freshman Fair.

A wave of mild depression washed over you as you stared at the picture, imagining just how happy they were before, which was a stark contrast to how they were now.

(Y/N): *thinking* Whoa... they really look like they enjoy each other's company here. I'm... kind of envious actually, but... how could the girls that look so close in this photo end up being the same group of girls that resent each other so much? Even if it's over some misunderstandings, I feel like they should have at least tried to make amends. Though, from what it sounds like... I don't think either party is willing to let it go. Maybe that's where we've got to start from.

You closed the book and stared at the cover.

(Y/N): *thinking* Even if this doesn't end up working, even if it's none of my business, and even... even if they end up hating my guts for getting involved, I've... I've gotta try something instead of standing idly by while their friendship crumbles piece by piece. Maybe reminding them of how good they had it will get them to talk at least. It's worth a try. I just... have to keep my nerves from going out of whack during all of it. *sigh* Easier said than done, I'm afraid.

With a small, nervous gulp, you checked out the yearbook at the front desk and left the library just as the first set of classes were starting.

When the first sets were done, you exited the classroom you were in and started your search for the girls. The hordes of student bodies made it very difficult to spot them, but that didn't stop you. The first person you were able to see was Applejack as she was chatting with another student.

(Y/N): *thinking* Okay, there's Applejack. Let's get this started.

You walked a few steps towards her, but stopped about midway from her as your social anxiety grinded your legs to a stop. You then spun around and looked off into space with a nervous expression.

(Y/N): *thinking* Oh, who am I kidding!? This isn't gonna work! How is reminding them of happier times going to take their minds off their issues!?

As if your hand had a mind of its own, it rose and slapped you across the face.

(Y/N): *thinking* We've discussed this before, idiot! It's better than just watching them fight all the time! You've gotta make an effort!

You took a deep breath and let it out slowly.

(Y/N): *thinking* This was your idea, so you've gotta execute it. Okay... let's get this over with.

You nodded your head and spun around only to meet a pair of moderate sap green eyes which scared the daylights out of you as you screamed for a split second before you fell onto your butt.

(Y/N): *thinking* *sarcasm* Oh, great. Just fall on your butt like a doofus! Nice work, moron!

Applejack: Y/N, are... ya doin' okay there?

She asked as it was revealed that she was the one that surprised you as your eyes went up to her while she gazed down at you worried. In less than a second, you were up on your feet again while dusting the dirt off the seat of your pants.

(Y/N): J-Just fine, Applejack. Y-You... startled me back there.

Applejack: Sorry. Ah saw ya by yerself and wondered if you were okay, so Ah came to check on ya.

(Y/N): O-Oh, is that a fact? Heh, good thing it was a familiar face instead of... She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named.

The farm girl chuckles at your reference.

Applejack: That's one name to call her alright.

(Y/N): Uhh... Applejack? I... kinda need you to do something for me, I-if you don't mind, that is.

Applejack: But... Ah thought ya said you were done with me?

(Y/N): W-Well, I mean, that'll depend on whether or not you're willing to do this favor for me.

Applejack: Uhh... okay? What do ya need from me, sugarcube?

(Y/N): I-I need you to meet me at the library after school. There's... something important I need to talk to you about. I can't explain it here, which is why I need to say it somewhere less... noisy.

Strangely, Applejack narrows her eyes at you.

Applejack: You sure it's just gonna be you and me there? That kinda sounds like a lie for some reason.

(Y/N): L-Look, I'll explain it when we get there. I know we just met yesterday, but I-I just... need you to trust me. I can assure you that what I have to say is important.

Applejack still didn't look too convinced by your answer, but for the sake of not turning this into an argument, she decided to hear you out.

Applejack: Well... alright. Ah'm not too sure about this, but I'll trust ya, Y/N. Ah'll meetcha at the library if it's that important to you.

(Y/N): T-Thank you. I've gotta go. We'll meet up later.

Applejack: Okay. Take care until then, sugarcube.

You parted ways and headed down opposite hallways.

(Y/N): *thinking* Okay, that's one down, four to go. I just hope they're as cooperative as Applejack was.

Come a little later, you found Rainbow Dash down by the soccer field, dribbling a ball in the most depressing way possible. Her sadness, however, soon gave way to aggression as she angrily shot it at the goal and then pulled on her hair.

Rainbow Dash: Ugh! Come on! What kind of kick was that?!

Sucking in a breath, you approached Rainbow, looking very stiff.

(Y/N): U-Uh... R-Rainbow?

Rainbow Dash: WHAT?!

She outbursts before realizing that it was you as she quickly slapped her hands over her mouth.

Rainbow Dash: O-Oh, uh, Y/N... I-I'm sorry.

(Y/N): Uh... i-it's fine, Rainbow. Listen, when you're done with, uh... whatever it is you're doing, I... kinda have a request for you.

Rainbow Dash: What would that be?

(Y/N): Now, this may not be your ideal place to go to, but... I-I was wondering if you'd meet up with me at the library for something important.

Rainbow Dash: Something... important? What's so important that you need me there of all places?

(Y/N): Y-You'll see when you get there. I just... really need you to trust me on this. I know we just met a day ago, but I need you to do a real solid for me here.

Rainbow thinks it over for a second before sighing.

Rainbow Dash: Alright, alright, I guess I'll meet you there. What time?

(Y/N): After school. That... works out for you, right?

Rainbow Dash: Eh, sure. I wasn't getting much training with the ball here anyways.

She gestures to her soccer ball.

Rainbow Dash: I don't know what it is, but we've been out of sync all day. Although... I kinda have my suspicions.

She looked down at that as you got the gist of what she meant.

(Y/N): *sigh* I... I know I said some... unfavorable stuff yesterday, but... if you do this for me, I'll take back everything I said.

Rainbow Dash: *sigh* Okay, sure. What do I have to lose, right?

(Y/N): Yeah... *murmurs* totally. *speaking* A-Anyways, I'll let you get back to your... ball kicking. See you after school, Rainbow.

Rainbow Dash: See you then, Y/N.

You waved to her as she mirrored your motion before you walked briskly back into the school.

(Y/N): *thinking* Okay, that's two now. Hopefully, I can keep this up with the last three.

Another moment or two later, you entered into the Costume Department and found Rarity stitching together a blue velvet dress. As you went inside, the sound of the door opening caught Rarity's attention and as soon as she noticed you come in, her lips lowered into a sad frown.

Rarity: O-Oh, Y-Y/N darling, w-what... brings you here?

She asked before you scratched the back of your head with a nervous hand.

(Y/N): I... I know I probably hurt you deeply from what I said yesterday, and I just... wanted to say I'm sorry, Rarity.

Rarity: *sigh* I-It's... It's fine, dear. Your... feelings were understandable. It's not right to involve you in our personal drama, so... if you feel as though you can't be friends with me then... I won't bother you any further.

(Y/N): W-Well, actually, you... may still yet have a chance.

Rarity perked up and stopped what she was doing for a moment.

Rarity: A-Are... Are you saying you're willing to be my friend?

(Y/N): S-Sort of. Look, before I do though, I really need you to do something for me.

Rarity: What is it, darling?

(Y/N): I need you to meet me after school, at the library to be more specific. I have something important to share with you there and I can't explain it here.

Rarity cocks her head to the side, confused by your proposal.

(Y/N): I-I know, I know. This is an odd request, but just... just humor me, please? Like I said, it's something important, so important that it requires you to be there.

Rarity brings her thinking hand to her chin and ponders briefly before nodding at you.

Rarity: Very well. If it's imperative to you that I be there, then I shall arrive at the library after school.

(Y/N): Alright, thanks. I'll see you then.

And with that, you quickly ran off, unaware that Rarity was about to call out to you.

Rarity: Darling, hold on!

You ceased your exit from the room and turned your head to her.

Rarity: Will... Will it just be you and me there, or will there be others too?

A cold sweat dripped down the back of your head as you tried to hold together a calm expression, but pieces of anxiety that managed to slip out came in the form of one of your eyes nervously twitching.

(Y/N): You'll uh... you'll find out when you get there, okay?

Rarity was a little displeased by your answer until she inevitably sighed.

Rarity: Okay then. I'll see you after school, dear.

You backed away, giving her a wave and a smile... until you messed that up by backing into the door, creating an audible thump that reverberated throughout the room. Reaching around behind you, you clumsily grabbed a hold of the doorknob and opened the door, leaving right after.

(Y/N): *thinking* *sigh* That... could have gone a little better in the end, but at least she's willing. Now, I just need to find Fluttershy and Pi-

As if on cue, a familiar pink party girl appeared right beside you as if from thin.

Pinkie Pie: Hiya, Y/N!

Like with Applejack, you screeched like a girl before falling over for the second time today.

(Y/N): *thinking* Well, that didn't take long. *speaking* *sigh* I-Is... is this gonna be a habit with you, Pinkie? Just showing up out of nowhere?

Pinkie Pie: Yep!

She answered, innocently. Rubbing the top of your head, you got back up once again.

(Y/N): You know what? This is actually perfect, because I was just looking for you.

Pinkie face showed surprise at what you said.

Pinkie Pie: O-Oh... I... thought you didn't want anything to do with me, so I thought I'd try to cheer you up somehow to... to get you to like me again.

You could hear a twinge of sadness in her voice as she twiddled with her fingers.

(Y/N): Pinkie, I never said I didn't like you anymore. I just... *sigh* listen, I need you to do something for me.

And just like that, Pinkie's sadness poofed away as she perked up into her usual giddy self.

Pinkie Pie: You want me to throw a party?!

(Y/N): Uhh... no. Not exactly. I need you to-

Pinkie Pie: Sure!

She interrupts before you could even complete your sentence.

(Y/N): B-But... you don't even know what I was gonna ask you.

Pinkie Pie: Whatever it is, I'll do it! If it means we can be friends afterwards!

To say that you were confused would have been a total understatement as you stood staring at Pinkie and her willingness, even if she didn't know what she was agreeing to.

(Y/N): Uhhh... okay. Good... then. Just... meet me after school at-

Pinkie Pie: At the library! Got it!

She saluted.

(Y/N): W-Wait... how'd you even know where I was gonna tell you to go?

Pinkie Pie: I have my ways of knowing~.

(*Jordan looks pale from the revelation before checking a few papers.*)

(Jordanwolfboy9743: S-She... She didn't read ahead of the script, did she?!)

(Shadowlight9743: There's no way because we're literally writing this as we go along. How can she read ahead of something that doesn't exist yet?)

(Jordanwolfboy9743: You don't think... she read the previous lines, do you?)

(Shadowlight9743: Jordan, she's one of your All-Stars. Did you...leave the studio door unlocked?)

(Jordanwolfboy9743: *nervously* Nooooo?)

Pinkie briefly turns her eyes to the camera and winks.

Pinkie Pie: *whisper* He totally diiiid~.

(Jordanwolfboy9743: Oh shush, you traitor!)

(Shadowlight9743: *sigh* Oh, boy. 2784's not gonna like this.)

(Y/N): Umm... who are you whispering at, Pinkie?

Pinkie turns back to you and smiles innocently.

Pinkie Pie: Nobody~. Anywho, I'll meet you after school, Y/N! See ya!

And with that, Pinkie skips away as an audible prancing sound could be heard while you were only able to stare at her, utterly bewildered by what just happened.

(Y/N): *thinking* Okay, you know what? That's not the weirdest thing I've dealt with today. Well, that leaves just Fluttershy now. Where can I find her though?

You thought, remembering all the places you've been to so far. You then left the area to search for the timid animal lover.

Another minute or two later, you went outside on the off chance that Fluttershy may be handing out flyers for the animal shelter. Sure enough, you spotted the pink haired girl over by the Wondercolts statue (as you now knew what it was called) handing out fliers to volunteers... or rather, she was trying to as absolutely no one paid her any mind. You really did feel bad for the poor girl. All she wanted was for people to help out at the shelter, but one was willing to so much as take one for consideration. The sad sight made you sigh as you slowly approached her.

Fluttershy: *softly* Won't you help an animal that can't help itself?

(Y/N): Uh...Fluttershy?

She flinches a bit before turning to you with widened eyes.

Fluttershy: O-Oh, uh...h-hi, Y/N. What are you doing out here?

(Y/N): Looking for you, of course.

Fluttershy: But...you said you wanted nothing to do with us, didn't you?

(Y/N): I... did say that, yeah. I just... I wanted to ask you something.

Fluttershy: W-What would that be?

(Y/N): After school, in the library, I have something important to show and it would mean a lot to me if you could be there. I can't explain in detail what it is right now, but it's something you'll need to hear.

Fluttershy digs a foot into the ground while looking shyly downwards.

Fluttershy: I-It... doesn't involve anything scary, does it?

(Y/N): No, no no no. It's nothing scary. I can promise that. So... will you meet me there?

Fluttershy takes a second to think before considering.

Fluttershy: W-Well... o-okay. I... might be a little late because I need to take Angel Bunny back home.

(Y/N): That's fine. I just- wait, what do you mean "take him back home?"

You asked, confused by her response.

Fluttershy: Oh, *giggles* did I never tell you? I carry him and a few of my animal friends in my backpack. See?

She turns around and opens the top of her backpack as a few heads poke out, all belonging to various animals as one of them belonged to the aforementioned rabbit.

(Y/N): *thinking* How... do they not suffocate while they're in there? *speaking* So... you carry some of your animal friends with you to school?

Fluttershy: Yes. *sigh* They just get so lonely when I'm at school all day, so I carry them with me wherever I go.

(Y/N): Don't you think that having someone watch over them would be a safer option?

Fluttershy: W-Well, my parents are always busy and... *annoyed sigh* I certainly can't count on my younger brother to watch over them.

(Y/N): You... have a brother?

Fluttershy brushes some of her hair aside with the same, annoyed sigh she let out a second ago.

Fluttershy: Yeah. His name is Zephyr Breeze. He's... not really the kind of person you'd wanna be around, let's just say.

(Y/N): Is... he a bad person or something?

Fluttershy: Not really a bad person per say, but... not someone to rely on, most definitely. He's what you may call a sleaze.

(Y/N): Oh, I...think I know where you're coming from. In that case, I'll make sure to watch out for him then. *clears throat* So... are you able to meet me in the library?

Fluttershy: I will. Like I said, I've gotta go quickly take Angel and my other animal friends back quickly and then I'll meet up with you.

(Y/N): Alright. I guess I'll see you later, Fluttershy.

Fluttershy: Y-You too, Y/N.

The two of you said your goodbyes before you turned and headed back into the school. With the plan in full swing now, you were strangely feeling a sense of accomplishment even though this could potentially end badly not just for you, but for the girls as well. The last thing you needed was to make them hate each other even more, but if this is what it takes to make them cooperate, then you had to accept that this may be the only way.

(Y/N): *thinking* Well... there we go. Everything is in place now. No... turning back... brilliant.

You chuckled nervously in a low volume as you spotted Flash coming your way.

Flash Sentry: Hey, what's going on?

(Y/N): O-Oh uh... nothing much.

Flash shoots you an incredulous look from your response.

Flash Sentry: You sure? You look kinda nervous, and I mean more than usual.

(Y/N): W-Well uh... I... may have... just made the girls agree to meet at the library after school... at the same time... behind all their backs.

Flash was taken aback as his eyes shot open.

Flash Sentry: Woah, dude. You... might have just dug your own grave by doing that.

(Y/N): *sigh* I know, I know. I figured they wouldn't wanna meet up if they knew that they'd all be there. Trust me, I'm on the verge of having a full on panic attack over what may happen.

You said while pacing as Flash brings a hand to his hair and brushes it.

Flash Sentry: Well... if you want to come out on top, here's the best advice I can give you. Be careful with your choice of words. Any hint of bias you give to them may make it worse to the point where they'll never be friends again.

(Y/N): *sarcasm* Yeah, thanks for the reassurance, Flash.

Flash Sentry: I'm being serious, Y/N. You could make it worse by forcing them to unite together. I'm not saying you should stand by and do nothing, but forcing them together will probably not end well either. I won't stop you from doing it, but you're running the risk of them completely falling apart.

(Y/N): Well, I'd rather try than just let them all argue whenever I'm around. I'd like to hang with them, but if they can't get along when they're around me, I can't do that. I want to at least make an effort to put a stop to this once and for all. And I believe the answer to that is, with this.

You took the yearbook out of your backpack and turned to the page with the girls during the Freshman Fair and showed it to him.

Flash Sentry: Are... you sure a picture is going to do the trick?

(Y/N): I don't know for sure, but if this works, then not only will they stop fighting, but I can be around them again. I mean, who knows? Maybe this'll stir up some fond memories and calm them down enough to wanna talk things out.

Flash Sentry: That's a mad sized IF, Y/N.

(Y/N): Well, it's better than the mad sized WHEN for the girls arguing every time I'm around them and they decide to cut off ties entirely. This is my best shot, Flash, and I'm going with it.

Flash Sentry: *sigh* In that case, all I can do is wish you the best of luck, Y/N.

He then checks the time on the wall.

Flash Sentry: Well, classes will start soon. We should get going if we don't wanna be late.

(Y/N): Right behind you.

Flash walks ahead of you for a few seconds before he stops all of a sudden and he looks back at you.

Flash Sentry: Hey... I just realized something. I don't think you've stuttered once when explaining your plan there.

(Y/N): Okay, I'm not that socially awkward, Flash.

Flash Sentry: Not anymore, I guess.

He smirked before resuming his walk as you stood there, taking in what he said.

(Y/N): *thinking* He... does have a point there.

Flash Sentry: Y/N, you coming or what?

He calls, snapping you out of your thoughts.

(Y/N): Y-Yeah, I'm coming! *thinking* *sigh* Well, that was fun while it lasted.

Resuming your own walk, you followed Flash to classes as the rest of the day carried on as usual with the exception being you feeling very anxious while thinking about what may happen this afternoon. The thought of you ruining the girls' friendship was a terrifying one and if this didn't work, you would be personally responsible for damaging it irreparably. The only thing you could do was pray for your plan to work as you made sure to do it during every class for good measure.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The hour of judgment had come at last as students exited out of CHS and back to their homes. When the last few students left, you began your arduous walk to the library, feeling your heart thumping in your chest along the way. The doors to the library came into view before you entered and saw that the first girl to arrive was Applejack as she heard you come in and smiled upon seeing you.

Applejack: There ya are, Y/N. Fer a second, Ah thought you changed yer mind.

(Y/N): If I wasn't sure about this, I wouldn't have asked you to come here.

Applejack: Heh, true. So, Ah'm here. What's the important thing ya mentioned?

(Y/N): Y-Yeah, about that. Before I say what it is, I just wanted you to know that-

???: The heck are you doing here with him?!

A slam of opening doors occurred followed by a familiar tomboyish voice as you and Applejack spun around and saw Rainbow at the doors, looking very irritated at seeing Applejack with you.

Applejack: Whaddya mean?! Y/N told me to meet him here and I did! The real question it, what are you doin' here?!

Rainbow Dash: Meeting you?! Y/N told me to meet him here!

Applejack: Like Ah'd ever believe anything coming from you!

Rainbow Dash: You don't believe anybody, even when they're telling the truth!

They continued to argue as you looked back and forth between them with a sweaty forehead.

(Y/N): *thinking* O-O...kay. Not... a decent start, admittedly. At least they're not throwing fists... yet.

Sighing, you turned around to try and think of how you'd get them to calm down before a certain party girl's head came down right in front of you like a bat hanging from the ceiling.

Pinkie Pie: Hiya, Y/N!

For the third time today, you had the living daylights scared out of you as you screamed and jumped out of your skin and landed on a table.

(Y/N): *sigh* Pinkie, could you... please... not sneak up on me?

Pinkie comes down from... whatever she was perched on and innocently smiles squeakily.

Pinkie Pie: Aw, come on, Y/N! It's how I like to greet people sometimes.

???: And some of us find it quite tiresome at this point.

Yet another familiar voice could be heard, this time belonging to Fluttershy who had her arms crossed while aiming a displeased frown at Pinkie.

Pinkie Pie: Ugh! You know for a girl who barely speaks any words, why do you always have to hurt me with them?

Rarity scoffs out a response as she too entered right after Fluttershy.

Rarity: Don't play innocent, Pinkie Pie! You're no better than she is!

She points to Fluttershy.

Pinkie Pie: And what is that supposed to mean?!

Fluttershy: *sigh* Does she even need to spell it out for you?

Rarity: Exactly! For someone who's skilled at making parties, you seem to be truly dense about anything else! Dense and selfish, all rolled into one package!

Pinkie Pie: Am not!

Rarity & Fluttershy: Are too!

Three of them then started to yell and bicker as the room was now filled with a cacophony of screaming girls. The volume became a little too much to bear as you had to cover your ears to ease the pain.

(Y/N): *thinking* I-I've... I've gotta do something quick! Things are getting way out of hand!

You looked around for anything, anything to use to make them stop. At first, all your eyes took in were books, books, and even more books. However, looking over at one of the tables, you gasped at spotting Pinkie's backpack placed upon it and an idea formed in your head.

(Y/N): *thinking* A girl like Pinkie is likely to have some kind of noise maker or air horn in there.

Looking back at the girls, you saw that they were still distracted by the heat of their arguing. You took this moment to quickly sprint over to Pinkie's backpack and setting it upright.

(Y/N): *thinking* I-I'm really... REALLY sorry for this, Pinkie.

Opening the party girl's backpack, you rummaged through her belongings for anything that could help you, all while pulling out a few items.

(Y/N): *thinking* Streamers? No. Candy? Definitely no.

You then pulled out a strange looking green alligator plushie and eyed it curiously.

(Y/N): *thinking* Cute... but not what I need.

You put the plushie down and went back to searching through Pinkie's backpack.

(Y/N): *thinking* Come on, give me something!

You rummaged for the next few seconds until your eyes widened suddenly as it was not revealed yet as to what you found.

(Y/N): *thinking* I... have no idea how she had all of these in here, but...

You reached in and pulled out a fully blown up set of balloons on strings.

(Y/N): *thinking* I'll take it!

Grabbing a pencil from a desk, you brought the balloons near the girls as they still had yet to notice what you were up to as they were still deep in their arguments. With bated breath, you brought the pencil close to the balloons in preparation for what you had planned. With one last gulp, you plunged the pencil deeply into each balloon, causing them to pop in an instant and making a ton of noise loud enough to finally silence the girls as they now aimed their attention at you.

(Y/N): Girls... please... just... stop already! This is exactly why I said I didn't want to be around any of you. If you girls are always gonna be arguing then... I want no part of that.

Rarity: T-Then... why did you want me to come here?

Pinkie Pie: He didn't want you to meet him here, he wanted me!

Fluttershy: No, he wanted me!

(Y/N): Stop!

You screamed, cooling their emotions before they reheated.

(Y/N): I wanted all of you here, okay?! I... *sigh* I knew none of you would have showed up if you knew the others were coming too, so... I made it seem like I was only meeting one of you.

The girls all simultaneously gasped as they felt a little betrayed by you going behind their backs like this.

Rainbow Dash: Y-You... tricked us?

Applejack: Y/N, how could-

(Y/N): It's for a good reason, I swear! L-Look, I just... need you all to do this one favor for me and... and if this doesn't work then... then you don't have to be around each other anymore. But... just hear me out. Maybe you don't have to listen to what the others may say, but... at the very least, let me speak. Is that okay?

The girls took a moment to think over your proposition as some looked hesitant to agree. They took a while to do it though as you feared that they may just up and leave at first. Thankfully, your fears were put to rest as Rainbow let out an audible sigh.

Rainbow Dash: Fine, but make it quick, Y/N. The last thing I need is to be around her any more than I want to.

She shot a venom laced glare at Applejack as she too aimed a similar look right back at Rainbow.

Applejack: For once, we're in agreement.

They both pulled up a chair and sat down as Pinkie, Rarity, and Fluttershy reluctantly agreed before taking a seat as well.

(Y/N): *sigh* Okay. So, let me start off with this... you girls... are quite honestly the most unique group of friends... or rather, former group of friends I've seen in a long time. The fact that you all were so different from each other and yet still found a way to work things out and be friends is... really amazing in my opinion. It's... honestly something I wish I had way sooner.

You had to look down due to the slight feeling of sadness welling up in your gut.

Rarity: What... do you mean by that, darling?

(Y/N): I mean... for nearly my entire life, I... never really had a lot of friends.

Pinkie Pie: You've... never had a friend?

Fluttershy: Not even one?

You closed your eyes and shook your head slowly.

(Y/N): No. I've never... had a friend before. Before coming to Canterlot, I spent a good portion of my life being alone. I didn't have anyone to rely on, anyone to look out for me, anyone to share my personal turmoils with. There was a time where I thought I'd be alone forever.

You reopened your eyes as they were now somewhat filled with tears.

(Y/N): Until... until I came here, to CHS. Until I met Flash. Until... I met you girls. And I thought... I thought that there was a chance that... that I could finally have friends. But... seeing you all fight like this just... takes away whatever hope I may have. And look... I'm not just doing this for me. I'm doing it for all of you too. Here.

You reached into your backpack and took out the yearbook from before, opening it to the right page, and placing it on a desk before pinning it around so that it would face the girls.

(Y/N): Just look at this! Look at how happy you all used to be! Based on this picture alone, you girls were such good friends. What happened to that?

Applejack was the first to take a gander as she stood from her chair and slowly approached the book and froze with a gasp when her eyes met the photo.

Applejack: The... the Freshman Fair. How... H-How could I have forgotten about that?

Her words spurred the others to look as well as sure enough, their reactions were about the same as Applejack's, albeit in their own ways.

Rarity: That was... the day we all first met.

Pinkie Pie: Aww, we... looked so adorable.

Fluttershy: It was... a much simpler time back then.

She stated, wiping away a single tear.

Rainbow Dash: *sigh* Yeah... it was.

(Y/N): And it was a time when all of you enjoyed each other's company, but now... now you can't stand each other, and that just doesn't add up. I know friendships have their ups and downs, but I doubt all of those problems could've cost it entirely.

Rarity: *sigh* Not to sound mean, Y/N dear, but... you weren't there to see how it all happened. It didn't just happen all at once, it was a gradual build up... well, that's how it was for me at least.

(Y/N): Even so, I still refuse to believe that one bad day resulted in you ending your friendship. Unless... you weren't the best of friends to begin with? But if that were the case, then why was this photo taken?

Applejack: Because... we really did see a lot of good in each other when we first met. Before the Freshman Fair, Ah certainly couldn't have imagined meetin' anyone like Pinkie Pie or Rarity or Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash and end up bein' good friends with them... and yet... Ah did.

She puffs out yet another sigh.

Applejack: That's partly the reason why Ah ended things with Rainbow the way Ah did. She and I were so close, despite bein' also different. We often competed in seein' who was better than who in whatever sport or activity we could think of and it was all in good fun. So... it really hurt me when she hurt me the way she did.

Rainbow Dash: *sigh* I didn't-

(Y/N): Hang on, Rainbow. Just wait a moment. Applejack, do you mind telling me what exactly Rainbow did, or supposedly did, to make you so upset with her?

Applejack: *sigh* One day, Ah asked her to bring the entire softball team to a bake sale Ah had planned. Ah told everyone attendin' that they were comin', but none of them showed up. She made me look like a fool.

(Y/N): So... you think she just decided to not show up?

Applejack: Either that... or she just has a really bad sense of direction.

Rainbow scowled and was about to make a retort before you brought your hand up to stop her.

(Y/N): Rainbow, before you go and insult her, I wanna hear what your side of the story is.

Rainbow Dash: *sigh* Fine. I did what she told me to. I got the whole softball team together and I was just about ready to head out with them before someone came by at the last minute and told me that Applejack told them to tell me that the bake sale was moved to a different location. I showed up with the whole team only to find no one there.

Right at that moment, Applejack's hurt demeanor quickly switched to complete confusion.

Applejack: What? Ah... never told anyone to tell you that the bake sale was moved somewhere else.

You, the others, and Rainbow copied Applejack's puzzled expression.

Rainbow Dash: Wait... you didn't?

Applejack: No, Ah didn't. The bake sales are always at mah house, so Ah never sent anyone to tell you that.

(Y/N): Rainbow, who told you that the bake sale was at a different location?

Rainbow Dash: I... think it was Sunset Shimmer that told me which I kinda found a bit odd at the time since I never really talk to her.

Giving that idea a quick thought, you came to a conclusion.

(Y/N): You don't... think she did that on purpose, do you?

Fluttershy: *sigh* I wouldn't know. At least she's not the one who ruined my silent auction. It was supposed to be a serious event... and Pinkie Pie ruined it.

Pinkie Pie: What are you talking about?! I keep trying to tell you this, but you never let me say it. Right before it started, you sent me a text saying that you didn't want a silent auction, you wanted a big party!

It was now Fluttershy's turn to be surprised as it very clearly showed on her face.

Fluttershy: Text? I... never sent you any text.

Pinkie Pie: You... didn't?

She asked, mimicking the timid girl's expression.

(Y/N): Wait... Pinkie, do you mind showing me that text?

She nods before taking out her phone and going into her messaging app. She scrolled for a few seconds before finally finding the text and presenting it to you.

(Y/N): *thinking* So, she really was telling the truth about the text. I... guess I owe her an apology for assuming she was lying. *speaking* Fluttershy, were you able to send that text around that time?

Pinkie shows Fluttershy the timestamp the text was sent on which resulted in Fluttershy gasping.

Fluttershy: No, I couldn't have! I was too busy setting everything up at the Animal shelter! I didn't even have my phone on me at the time, so that would have been impossible!

(Y/N): It's... possible that your phone may have been hacked, Fluttershy.

Fluttershy: B-But... I've never clicked on any pop-ups.

(Y/N): It's still possible for someone to hack into your phone even if you've never clicked on a pop-up, Fluttershy.

Rainbow Dash: How would you know that?

Her question resulted in you looking away with a massive sweat drop.

(Y/N): It... kinda happened to me before, b-but that's besides the point! Fluttershy, someone must have either stolen your phone and sent that text or they hacked into it. Either way, someone pretended to be you. Has anything strange happened to your phone before the auction took place?

Fluttershy: W-Well, there... may have been a time where I lost it, but then I mysteriously found it the next day. I just thought I had somehow misplaced it.

(Y/N): Then I think that proves my theory of it being stolen.

Rarity: Well, what about me then? Every time I volunteer to help with the decorations at a school function, I get an email from Pinkie Pie saying she has more than enough people assisting her! And then I find out she's done everything on her own. If you needed volunteers, why on Earth would you say you have enough?!

Pinkie Pie: I didn't! I never sent you any e-mails!

Rarity: R-Really? Then... who did?

(Y/N): There's only one person that would... the very same person that's been lusting over me since the day I got here.

The girls didn't understand what you were insinuating at first before it hit them.

Mane Five: Sunset Shimmer?!

Rainbow Dash: You think she did all those things?

(Y/N): She's the most likely suspect. I mean, I don't really find the idea too far-fetched since she has the reputation of being the bully queen around here, so I wouldn't put it past her to possibly do something like this.

Applejack: But... why though? What could she possibly gain from wantin' to split us all up?

Her question left you guessing on what Sunset's motive could have been.

(Y/N): That, I honestly can't really pinpoint. Although...there is one thing that comes to mind.

You flipped through the yearbook again and found a few pictures of the Spring Fling with Rarity and Sunset. Almost immediately, Rarity turned her head away, knowing exactly what it was while the others just stared.

Applejack: The...Spring Fling?

(Y/N): Yeah, The Spring Fling. These photos show Rarity with the happiest expression I've seen on her, but when I brought it up the other day, she couldn't bring herself to talk about it.

Rarity: I-It's not worth discussing, alright?! W-We don't need to recall that silly event anyway!

She stuttered, trying to hide the embarrassed blush that had now formed on her face.

(Y/N): Rarity, if it was so silly, why would you even bother to run?

Rarity: I thought it would be fun to show off my finest work...but it ended up being one of my greatest mistakes.

(Y/N): Why?

Rarity: What does it matter? It's all in the past and we don't need to talk about it!

She turned away, trying to hide the obvious embarrassed blush that formed on her face.

Fluttershy: Well, it seems to be really hurting you, Rarity. I think talking about it might make you feel better.

Rarity: *sigh* Fine. Look, all of those photos in that yearbook were before the winner of the Spring Fling was announced, but...

She paused as she pulled out another photo. It was shown to be a picture of Sunset, Rarity, and both of the principals wearing formal dresses in front of a crowd of students. Sunset wore a crown with the most smug expression she could wear while Rarity glared at her completely soaking wet.

Rarity: This... is what happened soon after. It's one of the pictures they scrapped for the yearbook because...well, I suppose it's self-explanatory.

The shock that spread through your body at seeing this picture was unfathomable as you stared, not moving a muscle, not even the ones in your face.

(Y/N): H-How... how did that happen?

Rarity: *sigh* Well, Sunset and I were told to stand on stage as the winner would soon be announced. We both did what we were told and... I'm ashamed to admit that Sunset had won, but that wasn't why I couldn't talk about it. After she claimed the crown, she turned to me with that very same smile she has in the picture and said "And here's your consolation prize." That's when...

Her head tilted down as a sniffle could be heard and a single tear ran down her cheek, laced with mascara.

Rarity: T-That's when... *sniff* That's when someone from up above in the rafters dumped a whole bucket of ice cold water onto me! I caught a cold that lasted a few days after I immediately left that night. I couldn't look myself in the mirror for the longest time, and I've harbored resentment towards her ever since. Not only did she brag about her win, she deliberately humiliated me in front of EVERYONE!!

That was when she burst out a fit of tears as she cupped her face in her hands and balled her eyes out. Applejack tried consoling her by rubbing her back to little effect as Rarity continued to cry. As you watched her cry, you tried thinking of what to say or do to calm her down. Nothing came to mind at first until one such idea did come to you, however, it was a little bold, not just for public standards, but also bold for you as you'd never done this before. Still, you argued that Rarity probably needed this, so she likely wouldn't have minded.

With that thought in mind, you decided to go through with it. Slowly, you inched over to Rarity, opening your arms wide enough to encase her in a possible hug. Your move continued until Rarity's shoulder made contact with your chest, giving you the ability to wrap your arms around and reach the other shoulder. Your gesture got the attention of the crying Rarity who aimed a teary eyed stare up at you.

(Y/N): *thinking* *sigh* Come on, Y/N. A girl is hugging you. Don't make this weird. *speaking* I-I'm... really sorry that happened to you, Rarity. I can't even begin to imagine what you went through.

She's silent for a second before she too decides to do a bold act in the form of burying her face into your chest and wrapping her arms around your torso. The suddenness of it left you with your face flushing, but you didn't allow that to be your main priority as you held Rarity close.

Rarity: Darling, she...she crushed my soul. It was the worst thing she had ever done to me, and...I couldn't handle being reminded of it. The way she laughed along with everyone else in that room...it still shatters my heart every time it comes to mind.

She cried some more into your chest as you resigned to holding her in your arms.

(Y/N): Well... now I understand why it was so hard for you to talk about it. Now I... kinda feel like a jerk for probing and making you feel this way again.

Applejack: *sigh* Ah wouldn't feel too bad, Y/N. Yer not the one that did that horrible thing to her after all.

(Y/N): Though, it does prove one thing...

You ended the hug with Rarity and helped wipe away the tears from her eyes and cheeks..

(Y/N): Sunset Shimmer is ruthless, narcissistic, and cynical, to the point where she'd go as far as to destroy a friendship to win a Princess title. She needs to be brought down.

Rainbow slammed a fist into her other hand with a glare of her own.

Rainbow Dash: Then let's take pompous bacon-head down!

Pinkie Pie: Yeah! Let's do it!

Fluttershy: U-Um... let's?

Applejack: Yee-haw! We'll give her the what for!

They all cheered in their own way as you just couldn't help but smile from their enthusiasm before a quick thought came back to you as you had to end their moment for a second.

(Y/N): Hang on a second, girls. Does... this mean that you're all friends again?

The question made the girls all look amongst themselves.

Applejack: Well... Ah'm willin' to if you gals are.

She said, offering a small smile as the rest decided to grin along with her.

Rarity: I-I... I suppose I'm willing to give us another chance.

Pinkie Pie: Same here!

Fluttershy: M-Me too!

That left just Rainbow as she looked down in a deep thought for the next five to ten seconds before she closed her eyes, nodded to herself, and smirked.

Rainbow Dash: Ah, what the heck. I'll hang out with you girls again.

She then looked at Applejack.

Rainbow Dash: For the record AJ, I'm... *sigh* I'm sorry for thinking you ditched me and my team.

Applejack: *sigh* And Ah'm awfully sorry fer assumin' you ditched me, Rainbow.

The two shared a warm smile before they embraced each other, getting the rest of you to grin along with them.

Pinkie Pie: And Fluttershy... I'm sorry for ruining your silent auction. And I'm sorry to you too Rarity for always taking control at the school functions.

Fluttershy: And I'm sorry for never letting you explain yourself, Pinkie.

Rarity: And I'm sorry for calling you dense and selfish, Pinkie.

Pinkie Pie: Aww~! Come here, you two!

She pulls them both into a group hug as they giggled at being friends again. It really made you happy knowing that they were all willing to be friendly towards each other again as you no longer had to dread them constantly fighting anymore.

(Y/N): *thinking* I... really can't believe that the plan somehow worked, but... I'm definitely not complaining.

Little did you know that the adversary you had all agreed to unite against had been observing you the entire time.

Sunset Shimmer: Hmph. So, you think reuniting that purple haired bimbo's little friend group will scare me away? It's a nice thought, I'll admit, but bringing them together won't change anything. This school is mine, and soon enough, Y/N...you will be too~.

Her eyes shut halfway while she smirked as she snuck away. Right as she disappeared, you had the sudden urge to look behind you as you looked back at where Sunset just stood only to find nothing there as you furrowed your brow.

(Y/N): *thinking* Huh... that was odd. I... thought I felt someone watching me back there.

You shuddered at the thought as you noticed Rainbow coming your way.

Rainbow Dash: Yo, you good, Y/N?

(Y/N): Y-Yeah, I'm fine, Rainbow. For a moment I thought I felt a pair of eyes watching me.

Rainbow Dash: Eh, I'm sure Rarity can relate.

She shrugged before the two of them walked off to go catch up with the others. As you watched them converse, you felt like your job had been complete as you decided to head home for the day. However, as history has proved to you over and over again, it's that we all can't always get what we want as the second you tried making for the exit, Applejack called to you.

Applejack: Y/N, hang on a second! Where ya goin'?

You faced them again with twiddling thumbs.

(Y/N): W-Well uh... t-this is usually the time for me to... you know, head on home, so... that's what I was gonna do.

Rarity: Darling, you just helped bring us all back together, and now you want to leave?

(Y/N): W-Well, I just thought you guys would want a moment to yourselves, and I thought I'd probably get in the way of that by sticking around, so...

Rainbow eases your worry by wrapping an arm around your shoulders.

Rainbow Dash: Ah, come on, Y/N. Stick around. It's like Rarity said, you helped bring us back together.

Applejack: That's right.

She added, also stepping closer to you.

Applejack: If it weren't fer you Y/N, we never would've gotten back together.

Rainbow Dash: You helped us see straight and for that, we really ought to thank you.

(Y/N): Well, um... I'm just... happy to have helped.

As if a spark surged through her head, Pinkie gasped loudly before speeding over and standing before you, grinning from ear to ear.

Pinkie Pie: Y/N... does this mean you'll hang out with us now?

The query left you silent for the next ten to fifteen seconds while your hand acted on its own and rubbed one of your arms.

(Y/N): I-I don't know, girls. Isn't it a bit... I don't know, unorthodox to have a boy in an all girl group?

Rainbow Dash: Pfft! Who cares what social norms dictate?

Rarity: I agree with her, dear. What others think shouldn't matter.

Pinkie Pie: Yeah! Come on, Y/N! It'll be fun!

Fluttershy: I-It... would be nice.

She added, shyly playing with the hem of her skirt. Still not sure about all this, your gaze wandered over each of the girls as they smiled in a welcoming manner.

(Y/N): Y-You... really want me... in your group?

In response, the girls all nodded while voicing their agreement. A feeling then started to grow in your heart, one that slowly ate away at the day to day social anxiety you felt, leaving a tender, warm feeling in its wake. At that moment, you didn't feel so alone anymore. Could this be the break you were finally looking for all this time? Was this your chance to change how things have gone for you lately?

Well, only time will tell if that truly is what was happening. That didn't matter to you right now though. No, the only thing that mattered was the girls that stood all around you... the new friends that stood all around you, you should say.

Very slowly, but also very noticeably, a smile stretched across your face as the glimmer of happy tears formed in your eyes.

(Y/N): I-In... In that case, who am I to... to say no?

You wiped the tears away with a sniffle.

(Y/N): Thanks, you guys... sincerely.

Pinkie Pie: Group hug!

The girls' smiles widened as Pinkie sprung up and wrapped her... impossibly long arms around you and the rest of the girls, bringing you all closer to her. You just smiled and held everyone to make the hug even tighter which they didn't mind at all. You weren't sure of where the future would take you, but now with these amazing new friends by your side, you didn't have to find out all alone. This, and the combination of thoughts from earlier, were what went through your head as the hug lasted for the rest of the scene.

About ten minutes later, you all said your goodbyes to one another as you exchanged phone numbers with the girls and decided to go home for the day. Once you were back in your house, Fenrir came prancing over to greet you with his usual giddiness. Smiling, you knelt down to his level and scratched the underside of his chin.

(Y/N): Hey, boy! How'd you do today?

The canine could only bark in response, eliciting a sheepish chuckle from you.

(Y/N): Heh, I... kinda wish I could understand you... and vise versa. Anyways, I've got quite a lot to tell you about today.

You stood up and swung your backpack off your shoulder and onto the floor as a metal clinking sound came from it upon impact. Confused, you opened it and saw the crown you found earlier today.

(Y/N): Huh, I completely forgot about this thing.

You took another few seconds to study what the crown even was for. You then tried to graze your fingers along the star ornament, but the strangest thing happened. When your fingers touched the purple glittery star, a sensation that you could only describe as sticking your hand in hot lava, stung your fingers, making you yelp in pain and drop the crown as it thudded on the floor.

(Y/N): W-What the?!

You exclaimed, still shocked by how the crown could have possibly gained so much heat. You looked down at your fingers only to be met with even more puzzlement. Where there should have been slight burns was instead... nothing. Not a single burn or blister could be seen on any of your fingers. The bafflement you felt right then and there couldn't even be measured as your eyes went back down to the crown on the floor.

(Y/N): The... heck was that all about?

Cautiously, you took one of the sleeves to one of your jackets and wrapped it around your hand for protection before you reached down and snatched up the crown as you weren't able to feel any heat radiating off it.

(Y/N): It's... not even warm. What could have caused it to burn me then? I was able to pick it up just fine yesterday, so what changed? Does its magic not agree with mine or something?

You asked out loud, pondering over that very question. Scratching your head with the other hand, you observed the crown in your still sleeve protected hand just to be safe.

(Y/N): It definitely looks like a real crown alright. But... who could have possibly lost an object like this? This isn't something you'd see every day. I'd imagine this would be in the possession of the royal family or something, not sitting near a school. Although...I do think I recall hearing something about a princess for something over at CHS, but then again, why would they have such an expensive-looking crown for a school event? I'd think it'd be made out of paper mache with some of those plastic jewels or something.

You scratched the back of your head in thought before sighing.

(Y/N): Oh well. Maybe I'll find out tomorrow then. I'll just give it to Principal Celestia in the meantime. She can hold onto it until the owner comes by and claims it; if there's even an owner that is.

A whimper is then heard as you peered over at Fenrir who pushed his empty food bowl closer to you.

(Y/N): Oh sorry, Fen. I had so much on my mind that I almost forgot to feed you. Don't worry, I've got you covered, buddy.

Placing the crown onto an end table, you went to give your canine companion his dinner as you did the same for you. As you sat down to eat, you recollected today's events in your head.

(Y/N): *thinking* So... I... really have friends now. Heh, ain't that something. *sigh* I just... hope they don't end up regretting having me in their group. I know I helped rekindle their friendship and all, but... well, I'm not exactly the best kind of person to be around given... my history with people. *clears throat* Still, I've gotta make the most of this, regardless of how I feel. And let's just... hope they don't jump to conclusions and split their friendship up like that ever again.

You shook your head while finishing up the rest of your meal and cleaning up. The job was done after a few minutes before you went to your room to get some last minute homework done.

(Y/N): *sigh* If only this was as simple as repairing a friendship.

After a few more minutes and countless complaints about how hard it was, you finished and decided to turn in for the night, but not before taking Fenrir outside to do his business. You ended your nightly routine with brushing your teeth before hopping into bed with Fenrir following closely after as he curled up in his usual spot at the end of the bed. You appreciated him for that, not just for the company, but also for him being such a good guard dog. For an adult black German Shepherd, he didn't disappoint in that department and that made you very happy. Giving him one last playful ruffling of his head, you wished him goodnight before you turned off the lights and laid down, drifting off to sleep soon after.
