VAESEN- The Ruins of the World
By: BellOfSilence
Score: 99
Title/Book Cover: 1-10 score 10
The book cover is pristine and unique; it looks as if a professional has designed it. I can’t help but feel somewhat envious. I wish I could create book covers that are at least half as good as this one. The background imagery is striking, perfectly complementing the overall plot of the book. It helps me visualize the breathtaking beauty of the white panther described within the pages. The stunning effect it creates is astounding. The bold font used for the text stands out boldly, without being overshadowed by the background imagery.
Blurb: 1-10 score 10
The blurb is highly intriguing and hooks readers to have them wanting to dive straight into the book. There is just the right amount of information - not lacking, nor too much to have readers wanting more. The blurb also corresponds perfectly with the overall plot of the book and has no grammatical errors.
Plot/Creativity/Originality: 1-10 score 10
I must be honest and say that I have never come across anything quite like Vaesen before. This fantasy novel combines shifters and elemental beings in a unique way that I have never encountered. Although I could only read five chapters, I found myself completely captivated by the story and had difficulty tearing myself away from the book. The plot unfolds seamlessly from the very first chapter, and it is highly intriguing.

Vaesen fits the fantasy genre perfectly.
Character Development: 1-10 score 9
The main male protagonist, Zane, harbors an immense amount of animosity towards all species, including humans, whom he was trained to defend. Interestingly, he exhibits a high level of arrogance and self-centeredness. However, what he truly requires is a strong female protagonist who can humble him and set him straight.
Story Flow: 1-10 score 10
The story’s flow was perfect. Neither fast nor slow paced.
Grammar: 1-10 score 10
There were no grammatical errors that stuck out at me as I was reading.
Writing Style: 1-10 score 10
I must mention that the writing style in terms of its highly descriptive nature was absolutely phenomenal. It effortlessly drew me into the book, allowing me to become fully immersed and lost within its pages. Impeccable detail portrayed every thought, action, word spoken, emotion felt, and surrounding in the writing style.
Overall Engagement: 1-20 score 20
From the moment I laid eyes on the captivating book cover, Vaesen had me hooked. The intriguing blurb fueled my curiosity even more, and as I delved into the pages, I immediately became hooked. Zane, the cat sith, a majestic white panther with incredible power, takes center stage as he valiantly protects humans, fulfilling his trained duty. The unfolding scenes within the first five chapters were nothing short of phenomenal. This book grabs hold of you from the very first chapter, leaving you hungry for more, yearning to devour the entire story in one sitting. Vaesen is an absolute must-read.
Our second place winner is!
Soulmate Quest
By: Hitsyo
Score: 94
Title/Book Cover: 1-10 score 10
From the moment I laid eyes on the book cover for ‘Soulmate Quest,’ I fell in love instantly. It’s captivating and eye-catching design is truly remarkable. The background imagery, with its perfectly pixelated and vibrant visuals, immediately draws you in. The bold font used, fitting for the fantasy genre, stands out against the overall imagery. It complements the plot of the book and its blurb perfectly. What sets this cover apart is its unique title, which is not overly used on Wattpad.
Blurb: 1-10 score 10
The blurb for ‘Soulmate Quest’ is highly intriguing, with a powerful hook factor that leaves readers wanting to dive right into their reading. It strikes the perfect balance of providing just the right amount of information to draw readers in, without overwhelming them. The absence of any grammatical errors is definitely a plus. Also, the blurb seamlessly corresponds and fits in perfectly with the overall plot of the story.
Plot/Creativity/Originality: 1-10 score 10
The plot of this book unfolds smoothly from the first chapter. The concept of twin souls, who are connected at birth and find each other within their dreams, drew in me. It’s a unique idea that I haven’t come across before, although it reminds me of the paranormal shifter realm, where shifters have true soulmates to spend their lives with. This book really captivated me with its highly creative and captivating storyline.
Fits the Genre: 1-10 score 10
Soulmate Quest fits the fantasy genre perfectly.
Character Development: 1-10 score 9
The main male protagonist, Kadan, has some serious issues with the concept of soulmates. Despite dreaming about her, he is determined not to have one. Kadan resents the whole idea and, to top it all off, he’s afraid of the concept of having a soulmate. Throughout the first five chapters, he spends most of his time wishing his best friend would stop talking about his own soulmate. Kadan must address these serious issues quickly in order to protect his own soulmate, and I hope he reaches that point soon.
Story Flow: 1-10 score 8
Although the story flow was slow, it was captivating enough to keep readers on the edge of their seats.
Grammar: 1-10 score 9
There were a few issues I addressed while I was reading; but not much.
Writing Style: 1-10 score 9
The descriptive text throughout the book was absolutely phenomenal. The descriptive text throughout the book amazed me completely and made me feel as if I were there myself. Kyse, my favorite character, captivated me with his deep love and happiness upon finding his soulmate through his dreamscapes. The author skillfully portrayed the characters’ emotions and actions, and I could vividly picture the surroundings. I simply loved it!
Overall Engagement: 1-20 score 18
Although the pacing was slow, I thoroughly enjoyed my reading of Soulmate Quest. However, I would have liked to see more character growth for Kadan. His aloofness grated on my nerves after a while. He spent so much time hating the idea of soulmates, going as far as not sleeping one night just to avoid dreaming of her. Constantly pushing her away, he missed out on the excitement that should have come with this time in his life. Just as he was finally getting over himself and letting her in, I reached my reading limit. Despite this, the book remained highly intriguing. I believe that if Kadan could have experienced more character growth within the first few chapters, it would have made the book even more phenomenal. I thoroughly enjoyed my reading and would definitely recommend Soulmate Quest as a must-read.
Our third place winner is!

By: Seong_Grace
Score: 93
Title/Book Cover: 1-10 score 10
With its enchanting beauty, the book cover immediately captured my attention. The vibrant colors of sapphire and emerald create a mesmerizing visual experience, transporting me into a world of wonder. The meticulously pixelated imagery harmoniously aligns with the captivating storyline and enticing description. Adding a touch of grandeur, the bold font chosen for the title perfectly reflects the fantasy genre. This title is truly unique and unmatched in its distinctiveness.
Blurb: 1-10 score 8
While the blurb is highly intriguing, I believe it would benefit from additional information. It is lacking, yet still manages to be wonderful at the same time. However, the blurb aligns with the overall plot of the book and does not contain any grammatical issues.
Plot/Creativity/Originality: 1-10 score 10
To be honest, I’ve not read many mermaid tales in my time. I’ve usually gone towards werewolves and vampires. But the author changed my mind on this subject for sure. The plot unfolds from the first chapter and it’s highly creative. I thoroughly enjoyed my reading.
Fits the Genre: 1-10 score 10
The book fits the fantasy genre perfectly.
Character Development: 1-10 score 10
The growth of the character, Nam_Guk, was smooth, particularly in terms of his development as the main male lead. In just the first two chapters, he experiences a life-changing event that completely alters his perspective on the idea of claiming a queen. Initially indifferent to the notion, his attitude gradually shifts towards wanting a queen, and he approaches the quest of finding one with a newfound positivity.
Story Flow: 1-10 score 10
The story flow was perfect, neither slow nor fast.
Grammar: 1-10 score 8
There were some issues with grammar. But I feel some light editing of the chapters could have that issue fixed easily.
Writing Style: 1-10 score 8
While I thoroughly enjoyed the overall descriptive text in the chapters, I primarily found my main issues in the first chapter. I noticed a few paragraphs could benefit from restructuring and rewarding to improve grammar and the overall flow of the chapter. However, I must say that I truly appreciated the phenomenal descriptive text throughout the novel, which added to its enchanting fantasy ambiance. The writing style was highly enjoyable for me.
Overall Engagement: 1-20 score 19
Although I had some issues with the first chapter, I absolutely loved this book. Sea creature-themed books have never been my cup of tea, and I’ve only read one other before. However, this book completely changed my perspective. It was incredibly engaging and kept me captivated throughout. I found it difficult to put the book down when the time came. The descriptive writing was truly amazing, especially with the action and the environments the characters found themselves in. The author portrayed the characters’ emotions exceptionally well. I’m eagerly looking forward to reading more when I have some free time.
Honorable Mentions!
Raven and Rue
By: ella_rowan
Score: 92
Title/Book Cover: 1-10 score 10
The book cover for Raven and Rue is not only highly creative but also incredibly interesting. I particularly appreciate how the character’s shadow engulfs the palace, symbolizing the central themes of the story. The author skillfully incorporates several key aspects of the plot into the design, making it visually captivating. The bold font used for the title stands out prominently without being overshadowed by the background imagery. Speaking of the title, it is refreshingly unique and not overly used on Wattpad, which is a pleasant surprise. It perfectly corresponds with the overall plot of the book, creating a cohesive and intriguing package.
Blurb: 1-10 score 10
The blurb has an awesome hook factor and is reminiscent of the fairy tale Cinderella. However, this tale is of a young man left almost completely alone. The blurb captivates readers with its powerful writing and fits seamlessly into the overall plot of the book.
Plot/Creativity/Originality: 1-10 score 8
This spin on the classic tale Cinderella introduces a young man named Pip, and it is highly creative and full of intrigue. However, the plot takes quite some time to unfold. At the point where I left off in my reading, Pip had lost everything in his life and was about to embark on his own journey. The magician and the man he falls in love with haven’t been introduced to me yet, but I am excited to dive deeper into the story and see how the plot unfolds.
Fits the Genre: 1-10 score 10
Raven and Rue fit the fantasy genre perfectly.
Character Development: 1-10 score 10
The character growth with Pip is truly remarkable. As a young boy with the ability to communicate with animals, Pip’s world is incredibly fascinating. Despite having a highly imaginative mind, he must keep this secret to himself because of his father’s unpleasant nature. Fortunately, his mother is always supportive. However, everything changes when his mother passes away and his father spirals into alcoholism, becoming a complete imbecile. With the family left with no financial support, Pip takes immediate action to assist the housemaid. He learns skills such as sewing, cooking, and gardening, shouldering the responsibility to help around the house. Since it is now just him and the maid, Pip takes matters into his own hands, bravely stepping into adulthood.
Story Flow: 1-10 score 8
The story flow was somewhat slow for the first five chapters of the book. Sometimes I was having a hard time staying engaged.
Grammar: 1-10 score 9
I only saw a few grammatical errors here and there throughout my reading.
Writing Style: 1-10 score 9
The descriptive text was wonderful, and for the most part, I loved the writer’s writing style. But the story flow within the first five chapters was slow paced. I feel like having more action somehow within the first three chapters would improve the overall engagement of the story.
Overall Engagement: 1-20 score 18
The book Raven and Rue was highly engaging, no doubt about it. However, there were some instances where the pacing of the book was slow. Injecting more action into the storyline would enhance the flow of the story. The last two chapters had me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating what would happen next. I can’t wait to read more and discover how everything unfolds for Pip when he ventures out on his own.
