"You Tried, You Failed, Let's Go to Sleep"

This one's from Virgil
The house was an utter disaster. There were broken chairs laying on the floor from the past couple who broke them in a fight, no-one got horribly hurt, a broken TV, dust everywhere, and a fireplace that hasn't been used for years. The current residents could go on and on about the situation but that would just take away from the story too much.
Off in the distance, in the dark, there was a light glowing light. It was small and red? There was something scurrying across the counter that sounded like a rat. If one looks closer, though, they would notice two little figures. One was scurrying around looking behind anything he could to find. The other was holding up the light contraption with one hand and walking behind. He seemed like he was not very amused at the situation, while the other was doing all the heavy lifting.
The one moving all the objects around and struggling the most had on black material that was maybe from an old doll, which it was, but he wouldn't tell anyone that. The shirt was cut up at the bottom, so it wasn't too long. The material was tied around his body to stay secure with purple thread. There were tears all over the material, and every tear was patched up with purple material. He had on black material for his pants too, but it was out of a couch cushion. He had wild purple and brown hair. This skittish purple creature was Virgil.
The other that looked like he'd rather be somewhere else, the one holding a light, was Logan. He was wearing materials that he strategically picked out from old human clothing. He cut up a flannel shirt that was black, and a tie that was blue striped to make one for himself. According to Logan, the tie made him feel normal. He topped the whole ensemble with khaki pants.
Logan came closer to Virgil, so he had a light to see what exactly he was doing. Virgil glares at him to indicate he needs to step back. Virgil turned his body back around and crouches down to the ground. He starts to toss and tear apart newspaper to make it into smaller pieces. " You do know cotton from the mattresses, or the material from rags would service for what we need instead of taking pieces of paper like mice." Logan holds the homemade lantern above his head, so he could see better.
Virgil pauses at what he is doing but does not turn around this time to reply. "Exactly. If and when a human comes into the home they will see torn up newspapers and think nothing of it. They will believe it was a mouse trying to get materials for a nest...Now if you please, can you hold the lantern still?"Logan sighed once more and crossed his hands. Virgil glared at Logan for subconsciously moving the light closer to the ground instead of following his instructions. Logan gave his brother the light instead of continuing the fight. He walked over to a torn apart radio and reached in. Logan dug around until his hands reached wires. Logan's face developed a small smile, and he grabbed what he could and tugged. It took a few tries, but eventually, the wires came loose. Logan grabbed them with both hands and tugged one last time. He used so much exert that his body stumbled back, holding the wires.
Virgil watched the carelessness of his brother with the corner if his eyes. He witnessed Logan stumble back and ran over as fast as he could. Virgil caught Logan by one hand and pulled him back over to the counter top with one hand. Logan looked over the edge he just narrowly missed then back at Virgil. " Got the materials for the light system," he said holding them up to show his brother it all was something. Virgil once more shook his head and walked back over to the newspaper to finish his own job.
After ten minutes, both were finished gathering materials. They still needed food, but both knew there was none left here. There hasn't been food for a while. If someone didn't come walking in soon, they would have to move to find some, but that would also mean there would be humans lurking around if there was food. If you had one there was always the other.
Virgil gathered up the paper he ripped apart and noticed some pieces of paper had wording on them. He thought it was a newspaper, but this texture was different and the wording was just not right. " Hey! Logan!" Logan walked over dragging His haul. " Look at this. Rental agreement...what does that even mean?"
Logan looked at Virgil blankly. " It simply means this paper is made up for an agreement. Rental means the amount paid by a hirer of personal property to the owner for the use."
Virgil still looked confused.
"Basically it means a human owns something and another human is paying to use it. So most likely it's an agreement to pay to use something... Honestly forget about it. It won't affect us."
Logan took off a grappling hook that was wrapped around his arm and across his torso. He made it from fishing materials he found lying in the house like a simple fishing line and a four-sided hook. According to Logan, the fishing line was a lot more sturdy than string or thin role and the string was easy to glide down on, it was just hard to catch yourself if something happened.
Logan placed the good on the ground and applied pressure to it using his foot to make sure it was secure.
