Summary & Sneak Peek
Monica is one of her grandmother's closest relatives who inherit from her fortune when she passed away. While others would be satisfied with receiving any portion of a rich relative's inheritance, Monica begged her familiar rival Faith for the laboratory she'd received.
Her cousin gave into her excessive pleads, and Monica discovers their grandmother was one of the worst people who ever lived. In a room surrounded by murky water and preservation jars of malformed sea creatures of the deep, she finds a skeleton. Not just any skeleton, a mer-skeleton. The keys opened a world Monica was never destined to have, but now, she will need to tread carefully because she is no longer walking on destiny's path. She was treading in deep waters with a smelly rug, a room of death, and a creature watching her from the murky waters.
''''''''''''''''''''''''''Sneak Peek: Chapter 1'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
I look into the island from my spot on the beach. I found it quite beautiful. Lively with fisherman, the markets joyful as I walk down from the ship. I'd taken my first ship ride here and here I thought I was already out of breath. This small bumbling town already captured my heart in a mysterious way. My feet were taking me somewhere away from the shoreline in a daze like I was in a dream. It wasn't until- a beep made me gasp. The tires of the small automobile scratched the floor of the pebbles as the driver honked and yelled out, "Get off the street!"
I rushed my way out of the way before my cheeks were so red. I felt like the merchants had all stopped to stare at me. I was a visitor- I know this. I just hoped they wouldn't have noticed so quickly. I breathed out as I took in the familiar air.
A gushing breeze of the summer waves sprinkles the salts of the sea into the air. Every breath here was united with the sea in every way. This was the place my grandmother had come to leave her last decade. A place where none of her family was. Every stranger I walked past looked at me with daunting eyes. I wasn't wearing anything too crazy today. My last destination was in San Francisco when I received the dreadful news. It came like the evening tide. Expected, yet it still sent shivers up your spine to think that death would be so close to us. My father told me to come down to the islands to unite with my family since I was still jobless and had the time to visit.
Funny, I didn't mind the fact I would be coming back to my family the days after my grandma died. We have always had a strained relationship- it was obvious this is what would come from it.
