Chapter 8 - Dinner Next to You
Ink's POV
Maids checked the wound on my chest. Once they were done, they slipped my brown kimono on and offered me my katana. I took it and bowed to them.
After I was done, I exited my home. I found Metallic helping a man push his wagon out of mud. I quickly rushed over to them to aid them. The mud soon released the wagon from its grip. Metallic wiped the sweat from his forehead and turned to me with a smile.
Metallic: Good morning, Ink. How is the wound?
Me: The maids say that I'm healing correctly.
Metallic: That's good.
We walked around the village, helping people that needed it. Suddenly, we ran into Error, who was admiring the rice plants. I became warm and there was a racing feeling in my body.
Error stood up, looking directly into my eyes. The small smile on his face made me become shy, causing me to look away.
'I don't understand why I act submissively every time I'm around him. Is it because of his dangerous aura that I feel?'
The mysterious male walked towards us. My breathing picked up but I somehow managed to keep it hidden.
Error: How are you feeling, Ink?
Me: I f-feel alright.
Metallic seemed to noticed my slight stutter but didn't say anything about it.
Me: When are you heading home, Error?
Error: I've decided that I'm going to stay in your village for some time. I need to make sure that you heal safely.
I began walking when I felt warmth on my face. I didn't want them to see that I was blushing.
Error was at my side and Metallic kept a small distance.
Suddenly, a few children ran up to me. They called me by my first name as they weren't required to call me lord. They were too young to understand respect within names.
Child: Ink. Our ball is stuck in a tree.
I looked at Metallic with a smile. My brother returned the glance with a slight glare.
Metallic: You know I don't know how to climb a tree properly.
Me: Just try.
Metallic growled and followed the children. I trailed after them, Error staying at my side.
When we made it to the tree, I saw the ball stuck in the branches. I found a nearby rock before sitting on it.
Me: This is going to be good.
Metallic looked at the tree. I could tell that he was trying to figure out how to get up there.
'Look for a secure point.'
Metallic put his foot on a root, beginning to climb the tree. He hesitantly reached the ball and pushed it off. However, his foot slipped. He held onto the branch.
Metallic: Kids move.
Once they moved, he let go but fell over when he landed on the ground. Metallic laid still in the mud.
I lightly laughed after seeing Metallic's fail. I glanced at Error. He was staring at me. He seemed to have blush on his cheeks but, he still had a serious expression.
Standing up, I walked over to Metallic and offered my hand. Metallic stood up and wiped the mud off of his clothing. He turned around with a playful expression.
Metallic: You knew I would fall.
I nodded with smile.
A maid came up to us, grabbing our attention.
Maid: We have invited the samurai from across the region. We still start dinner soon.
I bowed, letting her know that it was alright. She bowed in respect and then walked off.
I looked towards the sun and sighed. The sun was already setting.
Me: We should go back home and help prepare before they get here.
Metallic nodded, heading off to our home. I turned around to face Error, who was staring back at me. I felt a small smile appear. Then a thought went through my mind.
Me: Error.
Error: Yes Ink?
Me: Stay tonight and eat dinner with the samurai.
He seemed surprise by the invitation but nodded.
Error: I'll be there.
(Time Skip)
I rested my katana on its stand and straightened my brown scarf. I took a deep breath before walking into the gathering hall of my village.
When I walked in, I saw many of my friends and Metallic sitting at the table. Also... Error was there, making me suddenly cautious about how presentable I looked. My cheeks grew warm and I couldn't look at Error without smiling.
For some reason, I decided to sit next to Error.
Maids began to put plates in front of us and pour sake into cups. The meal was sushi, fish, and rice. The samurai started to eat, including me.
I glanced at Error, noticing that he wasn't eating the fish. I gave him a confused expression.
Error: I'm a fast eater. I'm going to wait before continuing to eat.
I hummed, placing a piece of sushi in my mouth. Error smiled, taking a sip from his cup of sake. His smile made me shy and somehow... happy inside.
After I finished, I drank the rest of my sake. I stood up and bowed before excusing myself, making sure to grab my katana. Error watched me as I left the gathering hall.
The village was silent and the full moon was in the sky. I walked to the training area to calm myself down for the night.
When I stepped into the circle of logs, I pulled out my sword before holding it in the moon stance. I breathed and then swung the blade around. I worked on my speed and technique.
I sensed someone and spun around, holding the katana in front of me. I lowered the weapon when I saw that it was Error. He stared at me and spoke.
Error: May I challenge you to duel, Ink?
Me: You don't have a sword.
Error: I won't need one.
He responded with a slight grin. I bowed, walking to the side with the trunk of the tree. Error bowed, letting the duel begin.
I unsheathed my katana and approached Error. He didn't make a move. I swung the deadly blade however, Error dodged every attack. He bunted my leg with his foot, making me flinch. He took my weapon and pushed me backwards. I felt my body lightly slam against the trunk of the tree.
Error trapped me between him and the tree. I knew that duel was over and Error had won. This was the first time that I had ever lost. Error was truly skilled in fighting.
I heavily panted while Error wasn't breathless at all. We stared into each other's eyes. My body grew warm and my cheeks became covered with rainbow blush.
Error leaned in, stopping near my lips. I felt his breath on my neck. My eyes closed and my hands gripped the bark of the tree.
Metallic: Ink!
The voice of Metallic in the distance interrupted the current moment. I heard Error sigh as he backed away. He slid my katana into its sheath that was attached to my waist.
Error: We will continue this, Ink. When the time is right.
Error bowed to me before walking off. I felt my breathing go back to normal and my body cool down. However, a part of me wondered what would happen if...
Error went all the way
