Chapter 1
A young girl walked down the barren streets that she had once grown up in now instead of the dream place to raise a family it had turned into a living nightmare. The young girl was small for her age and was thin with a muscular frame. She had dirty blonde hair cut into a pixie cut she also had mismatching eyes one that was almost neon green and one almost neon blue. She was wearing dark green cargo pants and mud coloured tank top and a loose army jacket. Clutching her leather backpack tightly with one hand and her hand hovering over her knife attached to her hip she kept an ear out to make sure nothing sneaked up on her. You may be wondering what the hell is going on well to put it lightly. The dead have taken over the world.
The young girl was called Betha a 19 year old girl who was on her way back home from her time in the military to visit her family. Well to be more precise it was her adopted family, Betha had spent the first 5 years of her life living in Ireland with her biological parents both who were in the military. Her father a solider and her mother a field medic however, despite both having been soldiers of some kind they left once they knew they had a child on the way. When Betha turned 5 her parents were tragically killed in a car crash. She had spent at least a year in the foster system until she received news that a couple from America wanted to adopt a child. Their names were Ed and Diana who came to see her when they met her they instantly fell in love and adopted her.
She lived happily with her adopted parents for another 4 years when they told her that she was going to have another sibling. At first Betha was worried about the baby then she got jealous when the baby arrived as her parents paid more attention to it but then her emotion did a 180. One late night she slipped into her baby sisters room and sneaked up to their crib before leaning over it and glaring in at the baby.
"What does ma and da see in you anyway?" She asked her voice still having a Irish accent. Betha had lowered her hand pointing at the babies face when she opened her eyes and smiled grabbing her old sibling's finger. Betha's eyes widened when she saw this but the cold exterior she had towards her sibling slowly melted away as she gently reached in and picked her up sitting down and hugged her gently rocking her back and forth as they slowly fell back asleep. "I promise you, I will make sure nothing hurts you, my little Clementine"
That felt so long ago to the now 19 year ago she had kept that promise but when she had turned 18 she had still wanted to go into the army to be just like her parents. She managed to still have an Irish accent she could never explain it but growing up Clementine always liked it so it never bothered her. As Betha was getting closer to her old house she prayed that Clementine's babysitter had managed to protect Clem through all of this. Betha pulled her knife out as she walked up to the front door and pushed but the door stayed shut thinking quickly she ran around the side of the house and jumped over the fence to the back garden. Before she ran to the house she heard a commotion near the front of the house. Ducking down she looked around the corner and saw three men at the front but the thing that made Betha's eyes widen was that Clementine was with them. Assuming the worst she quickly pulled her knife out and held it between her fingers ready to throw it. Walking out to face the men she yelled.
"Hey! You better back the feck away from my little sister!" They all jumped and looked at the girl who just appeared Clem's face light up when she saw her old sister.
"Betha!" She cried as she ran to her sister before Betha kneeled down and opening her arms ready to catch her sister she wrapped her arms around Betha's neck hugging her tightly. Betha hugged her little sister back tightly nearly crying as she relaxed knowing her sister was safe. As Betha let go of her sister she held her head in her hands.
"Thank god you're alright. I was so worried" Clem smiled.
"Don't worry I'm fine. Lee saved me" She finished looking to the African-American man who looked slightly uncomfortable.
"Is this true, Lee was it?" Betha asked standing up.
"Uh, yeah I found her alone in her tree house" She looked down at her sister.
"Do you trust this guy sis?" She looked from Betha to Lee before nodding.
"Yeah I think we can" Betha sighed before smiling at Lee.
"Well if your trusted by Clem, your trusted by me" She walked forward and held her hand out. "My name's Betha, Clementine's older sister" Lee shuck her hand smiling.
"Hi, Betha, this is Shawn and Chet" He pointed to the other two men Chet suddenly said.
"Okay if the reunions are over we really need to get going" Betha noticed that some Walkers had begun to gain on them. "We need to move these cars out of the way of Shawn's truck" Shawn and Lee starting pushing but they looked like they were struggling so Betha pushed helping them move it a bit. Her eyes suddenly caught Clementine who had run up to them helping them push the car even more making Betha smile. The truck's path was soon clear and the group ran to it Betha helped Clem get in before letting Lee climb in after and shutting the door and climbing in the back of the truck with Chet. Taking deep breaths Betha relaxed as they drove away from her family home and down the highway.
