Chapter 4: The Other Side
~Max~
The next day I woke up just as the sun came up. I figured that I might as well explore the place. Since I slept in my clothes I threw off my covers and put on my boots. I quickly put my hair up in a messy bun and grabbed my bow. I headed down the ladder.
As I reached the ground I saw that no one else was up. I smiled as I realized that I could do whatever I want now. I walked out of camp and into the forest. I took in my surroundings as I walked. Vegetation. That's all there was. Trees, plants, you name it. It was boring.
I saw a clearing. I ran to it and saw that it led to a cliff. The view was breath taking. It was better than the view from the window.
I took a seat on the egde, with my feet dangling. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I felt the wind blow through my clothes, my hair, and brushed against my face.
"Well love, you're just everywhere now aren't you." a voice laughed.
I opened my eyes to see Pan, very close to my face, flying over the edge. Frightened, i let out a yell and stubled on my feet, but only to fall once i got away from the ledge. He grinned as he watched me struggle.
"Not funny Pan!" i yelled as i climbed to my feet. He floated up into the air continuing his devilish grin.
As he landed I crossed my arms.
"Are you following me?"
"No, it's just that wherever I go you are there." He answered.
I take my time to get a good look at him. He's telling the truth.
"I find that very had to beleive." I lied. He smirked.
"You're lying love." he answered. i put my hands up in the air.
"Fine, I give up!" I yelled.
"Good." he chuckled "You were never going to win."
I gave him a smug smile. He took a step towards me and extended his hand. "Come with me. I want to show you something."
I turn around unsure of his offer. I grip my bow and reached for his hand. He looked at my bow. "You don't need that love."
Then my bow disappeared. I turned to Pan ready to blow when he spoke up.
"Don't worry, it's back at camp."he assured.
I bit my lip and closed my eyes. I grabbed his hand and felt my feet lift off the ground. My grip around his hand tightened. I felt Pan put his hand on my back, gripping me closer. My arms linked around his neck and i buried my head into his chest.
"I hate heights." I mumbled. This earned a chuckle from Pan.
"Open your eyes." he whispered. I shook my head and earned another soft chuckle. I was terrified! Ever since my mother got banished she kept me in that horrid tower. 'For your own safety.' she said locking the door. My hand instantly went to my neck as I felt the key to my room. I shivered as the memory came rushing back.
"Trust me."continued Pan.
I slowly opened my eyes only to feel the wind's sting. It was bright, but beautiful. I extended my neck out and felt the breeze through my hair. We soon landed and his grip around me loosened. I found myself frowning at his action. I looked up at the teenage boy in front of me.
"Happy that you looked now love?" he smirked.
"Yeah." I nodded
"Why don't you like heights?" he asked. His curiosity bothered me, but i was flattered that he asked such a thing. I decided that he waited long enough.
"Um...something from my past." i answered.
"Care to share?"
"Nah, thats for another day." I replied. He grabbed my arm and pulled me close. i felt his green eyes burn into mine.
"You can tell me."
I looked away from his gaze. Could i really trust him or is this all just a game? My head began to spin. Back and forth my memories went from bad to good. I can't trust this boy in front of me.
"No I can't." I answered and walked away. I headed back towards the camp site when Peter popped in front of me. His arms were crossed and eyes were wide.
"What's the problem love?" He asked.
Again, I shoved him off. I couldn't deal with him now.
"It's personal." And I walked into the camp and up the ladder to the treehouse.
~Peter~
"It's personal."she said and then just walked away.
I punched the tree next to me in frustration. Felix noticed my little fit and walked over.
"Having trouble Pan?" He laughed.
"She's harder to figure out than I thought." I answer.
"Just show her your other side." He offered.
"There is no other side! Just the monster you see before you and the monster she sees every time she looks at me!" I yelled in frustration. I walked over to the tree and climbed up the ladder. I was about to bang in the door when I heard a sniffle. A pang of guilt his my chest hard. I climb down the ladder to face Felix.
"Well?" He asked.
"She was asleep." I lied.
"Sure."
"Shut up!" I spat and stomped to my tent.
When I entered I grabbed a bit of pixie dust and grasped it tight in my hand. I threw it down in frustration. What's going on with me?! Girls are so irritating! This is why I didn't want Lost Girls in the first place!
As I internally fought with myself a lost boy entered my tent.
"What?" I growled.
"The bonfire is ready and we're awaiting your orders sir." He answered.
"Good, now tell Felix I'll be out shortly and get out."
"Yes sir." He nodded and exited the tent.
I sighed and rubbed my forehead. I was suddenly starting to get a massive headache. Everything was so overwhelming. Every minute there was a new threat or problem and it was wearing me down.
I took a deep breath and hid my doubts. I walked out of the tent with a smirk plastered on my face. I sent a ball of fire to the dry wood and it erupted into flames. Cheers from the boys surrounded me. Satisfied I took a seat on my stump. Felix came up behind me.
"Troubled Pan?"
"Why would you think that?" I said.
"Your not playing your pipe."
He was right. I wasn't playing my pipe and I always play it during a bonfire. I look down at my belt and pull it out. I take another deep breath.
"Not now." I say.
"But it will help you." He said looking up.
I looked to see what he was staring at. It was the tree houses. He was looking at the window, and at the window stood Max. She had her arms crossed on the ledge and was looking at the boys dancing around the fire. I brought the pipes to my lips not taking my eyes off of her. I begin to play my tune. Only those who feel lost can hear it so when I saw Max's head turn towards me I was deeply surprised.
"Maybe you are a Lost Girl after all." I whispered.
Then she disappeared into the tree houses. I continued to play until I felt a new pair of eyes stare into my skull. I stopped and turned to face the Lost Girl.
"Care to join us love?"
She walked past me and went to Felix. They talked but she soon left. What were they talking about and why was is so secret that I couldn't know? Angrily I headed towards Felix. He noticed my anger and answered my question before I was able to answer it.
"She needed a place to clean up." He said.
I nodded and with out a word left. It was time to go find out who this Lost Girl really is.
