Chapter 3: Voices

~Peter~

I walked to my tent and just collapsed on my bed. I sighed and stared at the top of my tent. I waved my hand in the air and the roof disappeared. I could now see the stars. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I sleep better under the stars. I tried to relax, but I was disturbed by stirring. I climb out of my tent and saw that Max was having a hard time settling. I walked to her tent. I stopped at the entrance and knock on the wooded pole in the center. She poked her head out.

"Hi?" She questioned.

"Couldn't sleep?" I figured. She nodded.

"Come on," I said "bring your stuff and follow me."

She nodded again, and her head disappeared back into her tent. I crouched down and looked in. The space was crammed I'll give her that, but I have no idea what she's used to. To be honest I would feel trapped in here, so I she likes where I'm going to put her. I certainly do.

She quickly grabbed her bag that contained her clothes. She also grabbed her bow and arrows. She looked at me.

"Ready love?" I asked

"Don't call me that." She said.

"I can call you whatever I want!" I said "My island, my rules."

"Well I don't follow rules." She snapped.

"Oh, I noticed love."

She glared at me.

"Whoa there love, someone's a bit cranky." I laughed.

"Shut up."

"As you wish." I smirked "Now are you ready love?"

She clenched her jaw and nodded. I backed out of her tent. She soon followed. I gave her a smirk, but she just blinked it away. 'I need to know more about her.' I thought.

I led her to a tree with a ladder.

"Ladies first." I said out stretching my arm. She gave me a fake smile and climbed up the ladder.

"Why are girls so judgmental?" I thought out loud.

"Heard that!" She called to me. I laughed with a smile.

"That because you were supposed to hear it love!" I answered. I climbed up the ladder and met her at top. We were up in a little tree fort. She was walking around looking at everything.

"What do you think?" I asked.

"It's incredible!" she exclaimed. "What is it for?"

"Well, this actually used to be where I lived when I was alone, here in Neverland."

"You lived here?"

"Yeah," I answered "a long, long time ago."

"I could tell." She laughed. I raised my eyebrows and my eyes grew wide. I got her to smile.

"Here," I said sticking out my hand "let me take these."

She handed me her bag, but chose to keep her weapons. I looked at her.

"What?" She asked "I like to keep this stuff handy."

"Whatever you say love." I breathed. I walked to the dresser and placed the bag on it.

I turned to Max. I walked toward a pair of curtains. She scrunched her eyebrows, and I opened the curtains. Her eyes went wide. I smiled as she walked towards the enormous bare window.

"It's beautiful." She whispered.

"That was my favorite part." I admitted. "Looking at the sky was my favorite thing to do when I lived up here. It was also here that I saw the star that allows me to travel to the different realms. It was right here, right where you are standing was where Peter Pan began!"

She leaned on the window sill and turned to me.

"Why did you bring me here?"

"Well, I figured that someone should live here, but none of the boys came to mind. They are known for destruction, but you on the other hand are a girl. Girls like to make sure everything is in order, and they take good care of it too." He answered.

She gave me a look . "Or, maybe you're just trying to be nice, and have me feel more comfortable."

"No I'm not." I defended.

"Yes you are."

"Goodnight Lost Girl." I breathed.

"Night Pan." I heard her whisper.

I climbed down the ladder quickly to find Felix.

"Don't let her in." He mocked as he walked away.

I ran to my tent. 'Why did I do that?' I asked myself. 'Am I trying to be nice? No! I need to know who she is!' I corrected. 'Ya that's it.'

For the second time tonight I climbed into my bed, and looked up at the stars. My star was calling to me. I closed my eyes.

"Think happy thoughts." I whispered "Think happy thoughts."

But they didn't happen. Instead of my usual no dream routine I heard voices, hundreds and hundreds of voices. They were sad, angry, and heartbroken voices. I tried to block them out, but they soon became too much. I sat up. 'The shadow' I figured It'll know what to do.'

I headed for the dark forest, that's where the shadow lives. When I arrived I called for it.

"Shadow!" I yelled. The shadow came out from a nearby tree.

"What do you want?" It hissed.

"Why can't I sleep?" I asked "I keep hearing voices every time I close my eyes."

The shadow looked at me.

"They are voices of your past and present." It answered

"But that's impossible!"

"Nothing's impossible in Neverland!" It yelled. I took a step back.

"How do I make it stop?"

"Try not sleeping!" It laughed

"There has to be something else that I could do!" I argued

"There probably is, but I don't know it." It answered

"Well I'm going to find it, and Pan never fails!" I called running back to the hideout. I heard the shadows laughter as I lifted off the ground. I bolted across the sky. I saw the hideout's entrance, and I landed there.

As I walked into the clearing I passed my old home, the treehouse, in which Max was staying. She was still awake. She hummed a tune that could lull anyone to sleep, so I wasn't surprised to find collapsed Lost Boys around the fire. In fact I found it humorous. I found the sleeping Felix and I kicked him awake.

"I'm up, I'm up!" He hushed. I walked away from him and sat on my stump. Felix walked towards me worried.

"What happened?!" He asked. I told him everything.

"Wait, the shadow told you what?!"

"He told me to stop sleeping, but I said that I would find a way-"

"Because Pan never fails." He finished.

"That's right!" I said. Felix looked up at the treehouse.

"So what are we going to do about her?" He asked as he motioned his head.

"She can wait till tomorrow." I told him.

"Don't let her in your head." He urged

"Ok now you're seriously going crazy." I said "You should get some sleep."

"Oh no, I think I've already gotten my share of rest." He answered.

"I don't know," I breathed "maybe you could be lulled to sleep again." I laughed.

"Probably, but you're the one who's going to need to rest soon."

"Yeah, yeah I know, but for now I'm just going to have to stay awake."

"Then I'm going to go to sleep since you have this watch!" He laughed.

"Shut up Felix!" I called as he settled back where he was before. Once again that night was quiet except one girl who lulled Felix back to sleep. A little while later she herself fell asleep.

I lifted off the ground and flew towards the window. I quietly entered through and my eyes lay on the sleeping girl. I walked towards the edge of my old bed. I saw that she was shivering, so I pulled the covers up to cover her up more.

I sat at the edge of the bed and looked at her. She looked so peaceful. Her breathing was calm and steady. I brushed my hand against her cheek. She started to stir. I quickly and quietly ran to the darkest corner of the room, and held my breath. She got up, and looked directly at me. She furrowed her brows and then laid back down. When I decided it was safe I walked back to the bed's edge.

"Goodnight Lost Girl." I whispered. And then I took off.

~Max~

After Pan welcomed me I was surrounded by boys of all ages. They asked me so many questions.

"Where're you from?" one asked

"Yeah, where'd you come from?" added another.

"I'll save that for another day!" I laughed.

The boys were about to ask more, but they were stopped by a haunting tune. I turned to see Pan on his pipe. The tune mesmerized the boys. Soon they were all surrounding a fire and dancing their hearts out. I clapped along but didn't join in on the dancing. I was never quite fond of dancing in the first place. Plus I don't even know how. If I went up and started to dance I would embarrass myself completely.

After a little while I noticed that the pipes stopped, but the weirdest thing was that the boys continued to dance. Then I noticed Pan coming towards me. I braced myself. He saw my response to his action and he let out a laugh.

"I don't bite." He smirked

"It's not the bite I'm worried about." I breathed. I turned away from him and when I turned back he was right next to me. I shot him a glare.

"What's with all the looks?" he pouted

"What do you mean looks?" I answered

"You keep giving me funny looks."

I looked at him.

"Well you keep staring at me, what do you expect me to do, hug you!" I argued

"No, it's just that no one's ever looked at me that way." he said softly.

"I wonder why." I said in a sarcastic tone. He looked at me. I could tell that I was really pissing him off now, and it was hilarious.

"Follow me." He said getting up. I got up and followed him to a little tent. My guess is that this is where I will be staying.

"Say hello to your new home." He mocked. I decided to give him some attitude.

"Gee, thanks!" I said. He gave me look.

"I'll leave you to get settled, cause after all you're going to be here a while." He said as I gave him a fake smile. He left and I walked into my tent. It was so much smaller than what I'm used to.

I figured that it'd just be best that I go to sleep. I try to settle in but it doesn't work. I'm haunted by Pan's words. 'cause after all you're going to be here a while.' His words freaked me out.

With that the bed was so freak'n tiny it was bothering the crap out of me. I gave up. There was no way in hell that I was going to be able to sleep tonight. Ugh! I hate life.

After a little more of struggling I heard a knock outside my tent. I poked my head out figuring it was one of the Lost Boys, but to my surprise it was Pan.

"Hi?" I asked

"Couldn't sleep?" he asked. I nodded at him

"Come on, follow me." He said. I nodded again and went back into the tent.

I didn't have many things so it didn't take long for me to grab everything. I saw that Pan came in here as well, so now we were close, a little too close for my taste. I reached for my bow and arrows and looked at him.

"Ready love?" he asked.

"Don't call me that." I answered

"I can call you whatever I want. My island, my rules." He smirked

"Well, I don't follow rules." I argued

"Oh, I've noticed love."

I shot him a quick death glare.

"Whoa there love, someone's a bit cranky!" he laughed. now I was getting mad.

"Shut up." I said.

"As you wish, now are you reday love?" he mocked with a smirk.

I nodded as I felt my jaw clench. He exited the tent and i followed. He shot another smirk my way. I looked at the ground to hide my turning red face. I followed him until we stopped at a ladder.

"Ladies first." he said as he held out an arm. I sent him a smug smile.

"Why do girls have to be so judgemental." he laughed.

"Heard that!" I called.

"That's because you were supposed to hear it love!" He said as he began to walk up the ladder himself.

When I was waiting for Pan to reach the top I took in my surrounding of the area that I was in. There was a nice little bed, drawers, and beautiful seashells decorated the entire tree house. It was amazing.

"What do you think?" Pan asked. I turned around to face him.

"It's incredible! What's it for?"

"Well," he paused "this actually used to be where I lived when I was alone, here in Neverland."

"You lived here?" I asked.

"Yeah, a long, long time ago." answered.

"I could tell."

He gave me one of those 'seriously?' looks. I flashed him a smile. He extended his hand.

"Here, let me take this."

I looked at his hand and I slowly handed him my bag. He gave me a confused look at my decision to keep my bow.

"What? I like to keep this stuff handy." I said.

"Whatever you say love." He said. Pan walked over to one of the drawers and placed my bag down next to one of the shells. Then he turned to face me.

Pan began to walk towards me. He passed me a stopped at the curtains hanging from the roof. Pan then opened the curtains and I stood there in awe. He smirked as I started into the bare window wide-eyed.

"It's beautiful. " I said in a hushed tone.

"That was my favorite part, looking at the sky was my favorite thing to do when I lived up here. It was also here that I saw the star that allows me to travel to the different realms. It was right here, right where you are standing was where Peter Pan began!" He said as he too stared into the the sky.

I leaned forward on the windows edge and turned to face Pan.

"Why did you bring me here?" I asked.

"Well, I figured that someone should live here, but none of the boys came to mind. They are known for destruction, but you on the other hand are a girl. Girls like to make sure everything is in order, and they take good care of it too." He answered.

I decided to toy with him. "Or, maybe you're just trying to be nice, and have me feel more comfortable."

"No I'm not." he replied like a child.

"Yes you are."

"Goodnight Lost Girl." he said as he began down the ladder.

Knowing that he probably can't heard me I whispered "Night Pan."

He left me alone for the rest of the night. I began to get ready for bed and as I got ready I hummed a tune that my mother used to sing for me when I was little. She said, that if sung by the right person it could be used as a spell to put people to sleep.

The more I hummed the sleepier I got. I kept my clothes on and hopped into the bed. I fell asleep, but soon I jolted awake. I rubbed my sleepy eyes and surveyed the room. I thought I saw a pair of green eyes but I figured that it was my imagination. I laid back down and as I began to drift off as I heard a faint whisper.

"Goodnight Lost Girl."
