A Special Visit
"Thank god you're awake..."

2 hours earlier
My best friend, Brylee, was laughing at my really bad "dad jokes" when it all started. We were walking to our first hour class, GATE, when Brylee looked paler than usual and started slowing down to a stop.
"What's wrong?" I asked, full of concern. "I-i don't feel so well," she mumbled. Oh no... "look, you don't seem too well. I think you should sit down," I gently pulled her down so she wouldn't fall. I heard her groan and start leaning to the side.
I quickly but carefully kept her upright and looked for somebody to get help. Fuck. The only person in the hallway was the guy that Brylee and I both liked. "H-hey, umm Jax! I need you to help me keep my friend awake while I call my mom." I frantically half yelled across the hall.
He looked at me with his vibrant blue eyes in panic but still ran over as the tardy bell rang. "H-how d-do you know my name?" "That doesn't matter now. What matters is that she doesn't pass out." I nodded toward my slightly unconscious friend. He made an unidentifiable noise and started a quiet conversation with her while I dialed my mom, an experienced paramedic. It only rang twice before she picked up. "What's up TJ?" "Brylee is almost passed out and she's really pale and she can barely talk and she's sweating and shivering and I'm really worried about her!" I only heard silence for a brief moment after my short speech. "I'll be right over there. Make sure she doesn't fall asleep." I nodded then hummed a yes when I remembered she couldn't see me. Kallie quickly hung up. Please don't take forever. I kneeled next to Jax to help Brylee stay conscious.
*le time skip whale appears*
Jax was talking to Brylee about the weather as I was too worried to make a coherent sentence. I looked out of my mom's car. My jealousy growing when I look at my crush and best friend talking like good friends.
I don't remember why he came with but he probably was the closest person that could carry Brylee without struggling to stand up. Brylee is between the two of us by my mom's request.
Finally. We pulled up to the ER section of the hospital in no rush. I quickly unbuckled my seatbelt while Jax unbuckled his and Brylee's. He got her out of the cherry red charger with ease. I rushed over to walk next to Brylee.
When we walked in, my mom checked us in and led us to the waiting room. I think Jax and Brylee were talking but I spaced out due to the amount of worry going through my brain.
When I came back to reality, I heard Jax gasp and talked to my mom in a barely audible voice. I looked at Brylee and noticed that her eyes were closed. This isn't good... I quickly looked up to the sound of my best friend's name coming from a woman in uniform.
My mom sighed in what I think would be relief as she got up. Jax and I followed the two to a sterile room. Jax set her down gently on the bed that was surrounded by all kinds of machines. I read the lady's name tag which read "Dr. Cupitt" as she told us to go sit in the waiting room.
Jax and I sat next to each other while Kallie went to the front desk. "So..." Jax spoke up, "how do you know my name?" He looked at me with a questionable look. "W-well, my friends told me your name... w-when I told them which person c-caught my eye..." I stuttered, trying to word it differently. His eyes widened slightly and smiled that adorable smile that makes my heart flutter.
My mom said something. I didn't hear but Jax did and got up. I followed him to Brylee's room, my anxiety growing again. When I saw her talking to Dr. Cupitt, I walked up to her. "Thank god you're awake..." I almost whispered so only she could hear. I grabbed her hand and squeezed it lightly. "You know I love you... like a sister, right?" I told her a little bit louder this time. She nodded and smiled.
Dr. Cupitt said that she had a terrible fever and that we were lucky we came in when we did. I didn't want to think about what would happen if we didn't catch it before then so I just thought about my best friend being conscious. I'm just glad she's alive after all the things that happened to her. I glanced at my crush to find him smiling at us two. Weird...
