(Y/n)'s POV
Ever since I was kidnapped by Valter, Ephraim has been even more over protective over me. The good thing is that he makes an effort to spend more time with me, but the most irritating thing is that he goes everywhere with me, and when I say everywhere I mean EVERYWHERE! One day while we were conversing, I said I had to go use the bathroom real quick, and he said ok. Well, Mr. Restoration king tried to go in the bathroom with me, but I kicked him out, and locked the door. So he decides that it's okay if he stands in front of the door, which was a stupid idea because I opened the door and it hit him in the face. I finally got tired of his constant watch over me, and decided to confront him about it.
"Ephraim, stop following me around! I can protect myself!" I yelled.
"(Y/n)..." his voice trailed off. "I'm sorry, I just don't want anything so disgusting to happen to you again."
"Nothing will happen, I'll be more aware of my surroundings now." I reassured him.
"But you're a better at fighting long range rather than close range. If someone were to catch you off guard, they could easily harm you." Ephraim whined.
"Then why don't you teach me how to become a better close ranged fighter. Teach me self defense; teach me how to better use a lance." I said.
The blue haired king sighed.
"Very well. We'll start training tomorrow, just know that I won't go easy on you just because you're my wife." He stated.

Ephraim's POV
I know I promised to train (Y/n) today, but I can't stop but think about all the ways that she could hurt herself while training. I've never been so nervous before, but I guess it's because I love her so much. I don't actually approve of her fighting, but I know that in this day and age, not knowing how to at the very least defend yourself is dangerous.
"Ephraim, I'm ready!" (Y/n) proclaimed as she entered the training grounds in a somewhat skimpy outfit.
"(Y-y/n)," I blushed. "Don't you think you should wear something more suited for training in?" I asked.
"This is easier to move in rather than equipping heavy armor." She replied. "Plus, you're to soft to actually hurt me while training. Ha, well except for that time when you went berserk and impaled me with your lance." (Y/n) said reminding me of a painful memory.
"We've done enough talking (Y/n), let's commence with this training."
(Y/n) was performing well. Before we started lance training, I decided to teach her hand to hand combat first. Although I originally said I wasn't going to go easily one her, I winded up pulling my punches.
"Come at me at full force!" (Y/n) smirked as she threw a left hook at my face which I blocked.
Grabbing her fist, I lifted her up and slang her over my shoulder.
"You would have gotten kidnapped or killed right now if I wasn't your opponent. Don't talk to your enemy, focus on their every move and await the moment to strike." I explained to her putting her down gently on her feet.
"Tch, I guess I have much to learn." (Y/n) grunted.
"Don't worry my queen, you'll get better in due time. Anyway that's all for today." I said.
"What that's it?! What about improving my lance skills?!" (Y/n) protested.
"Once you master self defense and hand to hand combat, then we'll work on your lance skills. You should be capable of defeating your enemy without the use of weaponry." I told my angry wife.

The Next Day
(Y/n) came at me with full force without talking, but the same thing happened. This time (Y/n) fought more fierce, but her attacks were too predictable. Her defense has improved though because I had a harder time beating her.
"Can I fight someone other than you? You're impossible to beat!" The archer by trade complained.
"You don't get to pick you foes on the battlefield, you know that. Plus, the outcome would be no different if you fought someone weaker than me."
"The outcome would be different! I fought in the war against Grado's army and faired well most of the time!"
"That's because you had a motivation; to win my affection."
"I have a motivation now!" She said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Well uh...what's yours?" The queen of Renais redirected the question.
"Haha, I guess that means you don't know yours. It's okay, you'll find yours soon." I laughed patting her on the head. "My motivation is simple; to protect you, (d/n), and (s/n)."
"I see. Well I then my motivation will be to grow strong enough to protect myself, and help you rule Magvel."
With discovering her motivation, (Y/n) slowly improved; and within two weeks was able to force me to have to fight her with my full strength.
"Ephraim, can I start lance training tomorrow?" (Y/n) asked with eagerness.
"Yes, as long as you wear armor to protect your body in case of a mishap." I told her.
"Alright! Thank you for agreeing to teach me!" My wife said kissing me on the cheek.

(Y/n)'s POV
"You're stride isn't long enough (Y/n). Thrust with more power like this," My husband instructed, demonstrating the correct way to attack with a lance. "Do 200 lunge and thrusts, and then you'll be done for today." He commanded.
"But Ephraim, my arms already feel as if they're going to fall off." I complained.
"If you want to become better at utilizing lances, you have to practice until your form is perfect." The lance user told me.
"But 200? Come on my dear can't I just do 50 and call it a day?" I begged.
"No, 200 is a sufficient amount. When I trained with General Duessel, he made me do 500 lunges! If it helps, I will do them with you." Ephraim announced as he picked up a lance and did the exercise with me.
When doing it with Ephraim, we reached 200 in no time. Ephraim was right. After practicing for days and days, my lance skills greatly improved.
"You have improved so much in the past month (Y/n), there is nothing more I can teach you." The crowded king of Renais praised me.
"So this means our training sessions are going to end?" I asked.
They were brutal, but I did enjoy spending time with Ephraim in a different way than we usually do.
"We should exercise together everyday, maybe even have a sparring match once in awhile." I said.
However, before my teal haired husband was able to respond. General Seth came in alerting Ephraim and I that (S/n) and (D/n) got lost playing outside in the castle courtyard, and wandered off into the woods.
"How did this happen?!" Ephraim furiously exclaimed. "I thought Forde was watching them."
The General sighed," He was...until he got too engrossed in painting his picture of the scenery, and noticed the prince and princess were absent."
"Have you sent our men to go search for them?!" Ephraim shouted.
"Sir Kyle went to go search, as well as Franz and Forde, but neither of them have found the two." The ruby haired paladin explained.
"Damnit!" The king cursed. "Seth, take me to where the kids were playing, and help me search for them."
"Yes milord."
"I'm coming too!" I proclaimed.
"...Alright, just stay close to me (Y/n)." My husband told me.

"(S/n), (D/n)!" I called but got no response. "Damn, where could they have gone!"
We went deeper in the woods 2 miles away from the castle, and searched for the princess and prince of Renais. Eventually, we came upon a crossroad with three paths, surely they went down one of these paths.
"Which way should we go milord?" Seth asked the burdened king.
"I don't know." A frustrated Ephraim said.
"Why don't each of us go down a path? That way we can find them quicker." I suggested.
"Milady, it would be unwise for us to part ways. These woods have not been scouted recently, so we don't know what lies ahead." General Seth informed me.
"I know, but the future rulers of Renais may be in danger. I don't want to lose more family." I retorted.
"General Seth is correct (Y/n); however, in order to locate (S/n) and (D/n), each of us must travel down a path." My husband declared.
The General sighed. "If that is what you wish sire, then I will take the path on the left."
"Alright, I'll take the middle path, and (Y/n) will take the right." Ephraim said. "Be careful my queen." Ephraim said grabbing my hand and kissing it.
"I will my king." I replied, embracing him as we departed down our separate paths.
As I traversed down the right path, I called for (D/n) and (S/n), but heard no response. I followed the path. With every step, the forest itself seemed to get more ominous. The wind speeds fluctuated, while the squirrels and birds would go across my walking path as if their is something foul residing in the depths of these woods. Maybe I'm still a bit shaken up from my recent abduction, but I feel scared. Usually at times like this, I would cling on Ephraim to protect me and become my aegis, but this time I must be strong, and not rely on Ephraim, but on his teachings. I heard a high pitched scream of terror up ahead, so I ran full speed up the path. There I saw (S/n) and (D/n) surrounded by 4 giant cyclops.
"(S/n), (D/n)! Don't worry, I'm coming!" I yelled as I dashed into battle with a lance in my hand.
"Mommy, save us!" My children cried.
I tried to pierce one of the four cyclops with my lance, but its skin was so thick that my attack was ineffective. I guess that means I have to aim for the eye, its obvious weak point, but how? Their height surpasses my arm length, and I don't have my bow and arrows with me. The cyclops that I attack approaches me, ready to attack me. I switch from offense to defense, dodging the attacks directed towards me.
"I can't stay on the defensive for ever." I mumbled to myself.
Then an idea came to me. I climbed up a tree, and held my lance as a spear. I imagined by lance as an arrow, and released it from my hand, praying it would make contact with my foe's vital point. Success! Except for the fact that my lance is lodged in my opponent's eye who is going berserk because it can't see properly. The berserk cyclops rams into the tree that I'm in breaking the trunk causing it to tip over. I was scared, but my only option was to jump from the failing tree and prepare for a rough rendezvous with the ground. However, a certain teal haired king who always has impeccable timing caught me.
"Ephraim! How did you get here?!" I inquired.
"The paths merged, and I heard the sound of screaming so I proceeded to follow the merged path." He explained to me as he put me down.
The berserk cyclops finally perished, and fell backwards, which made it so I could retrieve my bloody lance. The other three cyclops originally targeting our kids, decided that we were their new targets. Ephraim followed my lead, and climbed in a tree aiming his lance at the cyclops' eye. We took down two of the three; one remained.
"King Ephraim, Queen (Y/n)!" General Seth called who was accompanied by Kyle, Franz, and Forde. "Let us handle this last one. Please security the safety of Princess (D/n), and Prince (S/n)."
"Alright, we'll leave it to you. Come on (Y/n)." The king responded, seizing my hand and going to our children's side.
"Mommy, Daddy!" The two royal children whaled as we hugged and kissed them.
"(D/n), (S/n). Don't you ever run off on your own again!" Ephraim scolded the two.
"We're sorry," they said in unison.
The last cyclops was defeated. Seth, Kyle, and Franz did more scouting of the woods to ensure that there are no evil beings lurking. Forde was scolded by Ephraim and put on probation for a month upon our arrival back to castle Renais. (S/n) and (D/n) were also punished by Ephraim.
"You did a good job fighting with a lance today (Y/n). You're approach to defeating your enemies was clever. You've definitely improved." My husband praised me.
"Thank you Ephraim, I couldn't have been able to better my skills if it weren't for your teachings."
"You're welcome (Y/n), anything for my queen~"
"Anything? Well I guess it's your turn to be the student, because I'm going to hone your archery skills!" I declared.
"Very well teacher, let's begin."
