Paralogue 11 The One Whom I Loved (Tana x Cormag)
Sorry for the late update, I just started my new job which means I may be updating less now, despite it being winter break. This paralogue is about Tana and Cormag's love story, I hope you like it! Sorry of Cormag is a little out of character. Also, I listened to the opening of the anime Suzuka while writing this.
<•>~<•>
Tana's POV
I'd never thought I'd fall in love with someone other than Ephraim. After he chose (Y/n) over me, I plunged into a deep depression. I took my pegasus into the mountains were I felt I could have a peace of mind. That was when I found him. The wind blew through his blonde hair, as his eyes were fixated on the sky blue ceiling above him. The war with Grado was over, yet tears streamed from his eyes. I remember facing him once in battle, he wanted to fight for his older brother Glen, who was killed by his own allies. He lost someone he loved, and so did I.
"How long are you going to keep staring at me? Leave me alone!" The wyvern rider snapped.
"I know you pain." I said. "I know the pain of losing someone that I loved all my life."
"Silence woman! I don't need your pity." He exclaimed getting on his wyvern and flying away.
He flew away; just like Ephraim did. Should I chase after him like (Y/n) did with Ephraim? I should. If (Y/n) can ensnare a man so can I! But wait. Why am I thinking this, Cormag is not the one I love! I should reclaim my Ephraim!
<•>~<•>
"Tana, I'm sorry, but I love (Y/n)!" The man of my dreams broke my heart again as I approached him.
"What's so great about her anyway?! I deserve to be happy too!" I screamed at the blue haired king.
"I'm sorry." Ephraim repeated. "We can be friends."
"But I don't want to be friends, I want to be lovers!" I yelled.
"Stop being so selfish and think of other people's feelings!" Ephraim shouted at me.
"But Ephraim—"
"Enough Tana! This conversation is over." He said as he went inside his castle.
He left me again. With tearstained eyes, I got on my pegasus and flew into the sky. From above, I could see (Y/n) and Ephraim conversing and laughing inside castle Renais. They look so happy together. Why can't I be happy? Even my hypocritical brother is happy with Eirika! I decided to return home to castle Frelia after visiting Ephraim, and locked myself in my chambers.
The Next Day
Eirika, my new sister in law saw me sitting outside of castle Frelia, staring at the pendant Ephraim gave me before he left on his expedition right before the war started. I remember when he got me it; he said that the indigo colored stone in the pendant reminded him of my hair. I bet he probably doesn't remember giving it to me.
"Are you thinking of my brother?" My best friend asked me.
"Yeah," I sighed, looking down at the pendant.
"Don't worry Tana, you'll find someone you love more than him, and that will love you back," Eirika said trying to comfort me.
"But I've loved Ephraim all my life! How could I ever love someone else!" I wept.
"I know it will be hard, but you have to move on. When I witnessed Lyon die right before my eyes, the one whom I loved, I had to move on. If I had let myself stay depressed, I would have never realized my affection for Innes, or his for me. I once thought the same thing. That I would never love someone else, but all I had to do was open my heart and forget the past."
She was right, I have to forget the past and move on, but first I should go and apologize to Ephraim for yesterday.
"Thank you Eirika. You speaking with me meant so much," I smiled and gave her a hug. "I'm going for a ride on my pegasus now, so I'll see you later!"
By pegasus, Renais is about 3 and a half hours, so I brought some food with me for the trip. As I was flying, I noticed Achaeus, my pegasus, was getting tired so I landed at the Renais, Frelian border to let her rest. She was thirsty, so I took her to the nearest lake which was about a mile walk. At the lake, I saw a familiar face.
"Cormag!" I yelled.
"Oh, it's you. Princess Tana, was it? Look I'm sorry about yesterday, it was my deceased brother's birthday." He replied.
"Oh I see...no need to apologize, I was the one who was randomly staring at you." I said. "So, what are you doing out here?" I asked.
"Gathering wood. I have a wood shop out in Grado." The blonde explained.
"Do you need help transporting some of that wood? Surely you can't carry all that at once!" I offered.
"No, I'll be okay. My wyvern, Genarog and I are just going to take two trips."
"But wouldn't that be hard on Genarog? I don't mind helping!" I insisted.
"I don't mind the aid, but don't you have somewhere you were going?"
"It's not that important. Are you ready Achaeus?" I asked my pegasus, who whinnied in response.
I didn't realize it at first while I was talking to Cormag, but his wyvern and my pegasus were getting along quite well.
"Haha, it looks like Achaeus and Genarog are bonding."
"Ah, indeed they are! Haha, maybe they should have a play date." I laughed, as I loaded some wood on Achaeus.
"Many thanks for assisting me princess."
<•>~<•>
When we arrived at Cormag's wood shop, I was amazed at the sight. His display of the shop was like something you'd see in a painting, and his products were beautifully hand crafted.
"This seems like such a peaceful job! How long have you been into working with wood?" I asked.
"It is. I've been doing this since I was young when my parents were alive. Before being in the Grado's army, my brother and I had a dream to own a wood shop together."
"I see...you and your brother were close. It must be hard being separate from your family."
"Aye...my wyvern is my only family now." He sighed. "Anyway, it's getting late. You should be on your way home soon princess."
But I didn't want to go. Something about talking to Cormag evokes a feeling of comfort.
"Oh alright. May we meet again sometime Sir Cormag!" I said, but as I went outside to board my pegasus I noticed some clouds rolling in.
"Looks like a storm's brewing. Come back inside princess, surely it would be rather difficult to fly back to Frelia in this weather."
"Oh, but I don't want to be a burden! It's just drizzling right now."
"You're no burden Princess Tana, consider this a form of repayment for assisting me earlier." The former knight of Grado said. "And although it appears to be a drizzle for now, it will get much worse in the coming hours."
"A-alright, thanks Sir Cormag." I smiled.
"Just Cormag is fine."
Cormag let my pegasus and wyvern sleep under the same shelter. I wonder where I will sleep?
"You can stay in here." Cormag informed me.
The room itself wasn't grandiose, but it had the basics: a full sized bed, a lantern, a desk, a cabinet, a chair, and a window.
"You have my gratitude Cormag, but where are you going to sleep tonight?" I asked.
"The floor," He replied.
"The floor?! Isn't that so uncomfortable? W-wait so does that mean I'm sleeping in your bed?" My face turned red.
"Yeah, sorry it's probably nothing like your bed at castle Frelia, but I did wash and change the sheets." He said nonchalantly. "Anyway, is there anything particular you want for dinner?"
"N-no, but I can help you with dinner!"
"If you insist."
Cormag and I walked to the kitchen. It's rather small compared to that of castle Frelia's kitchen, but there's ample space. The two of us decided on making soup. Cormag was cutting up all the ingredients, while I was making the broth. However, there was one small problem; I don't know how to cook. Growing up a princess, I was taught that someone should always cook for me, so I never bothered learning how to cook except for this one time where I made Ephraim some lunch, but he never got a chance to eat it.
"Princess Tana? With all due respect, but do you know what you're doing?" Cormag raised his eyebrow.
"Y-yeah, of course!" I lied.
"You burnt the water." He stated.
"O-oh." I made a fool of myself.
"It's alright, watch me." He said as he emptied the burnt water, and refilled the pot with fresh water. "When it starts bubbling, then you can start to add the seasoning and the rest of the ingredients."
The way he cooked held me captive. Enraptured by him and his cooking, I didn't realize that he had finished cooking the soup, and that I was still gazing at him.
"Do you like me?" He asked, breaking me out of my trance.
I was taken aback by his abrupt question.
"W-well, do you like me?" I redirected his question.
"I found it rather cute that you don't know how to cook. Yet, rumor has it that you harbor affection for another, is it not true?"
"Quiet about that! But the rumor, it's not true...well not anymore at least. But listen Cormag I'm not sure if I'm ready to fall in love again. This state of desperation for a man shackles me, therefore I don't want to shackle a man with false, desperate love."
"You have a good heart princess, it's filled with kindness."
<•>~<•>
Ever since I stayed at Cormag's wood shop, he's the only thing I've been thinking of. I was scolded by father for not returning home until morning, so he grounded me and now I'm not allowed to leave the castle grounds.
I never got to apologize to Ephraim about that outburst I had the other day. I hope he doesn't think bad of me. Maybe I'll write him a letter and return the pendant he gave me before the war happened. No! I can't find the pendant! Did I drop it while I was flying? I searched the pockets of my clothes, my bag, and Archaeus, and yet it was no where to be found.
"Hey Tana, can I come in?" I heard Eirika's voice call from outside my door.
"Yes, you may enter."
"I was worried about you yesterday, where did you go?" My best friend asked.
"Well, I was going to Renais to apologize to Ephraim about an argument that we had, but my pegasus was getting tired and needed a break, so I landed. There I saw Cormag of Grado, who was struggling to carry wood back to his shop, so I offered to help him."
"Oh Cormag, I remember him. I feel bad for him; his brother was killed by his own ally. Does he fare well?"
"Yes, he owns a wood shop by himself in the southern part of Grado. His products are beautifully hand crafted, I wouldn't mind purchasing some myself the next time I'm in the area."
"I see, I would like to visit his shop in the future."
"Maybe we can go together sometime this week."
In the hallway, I heard the guards say that there is one lone Grado soldier on a wyvern outside of castle Frelia requesting to see me. Is it him? I rushed out my room, and ran to the entrance of the castle guarded by members of the Frelian army.
"Princess! Don't go outside, there's a soldier from Grado looking to kidnap you!" One of the Frelian guards stated, but I ignored them and pushed my way through them to reach the outside of the castle.
"Cormag! What are you doing here?" I asked.
"You forgot this." Cormag said as he was about to hand me something, but he was impaled by an arrow.
"Stay away from my sister!" Innes yelled.
"Stop it Innes! Cormag is not an enemy anymore!" I cried.
My older brother saw the pain displayed on my face and said, "Men halt! This man is not an enemy! Moulder, tend to this man's wound at once!"
"Yes sire!" Moulder obeyed as he ran over to Cormag.
"My apologies," My brother sincerely apologized to me.
"It's alright. I can understand you being suspicious. Thank you for trying to protect me."
Under Moulder's instructions, we were told that Cormag needed to rest in castle Frelia while a special medicine is being prepared to help his wound due to the arrow piercing the cavity right below his vital organs.
"Cormag, are you awake? I'm sorry about my brother, he can be at bit rash sometimes." I said, sitting beside the bed Cormag was lying in.
He didn't respond.
Please Cormag; wake up soon! Although, he does look rather peaceful in his slumber. I wonder if he's dreaming about his brother or maybe his family.
1 Hour Later
Oh! I must have fallen asleep, but what is this hard yet warm thing I'm laying on. I open my eyes to the most embarrassing scenario: half of my body laying on a man who I barely know.
"You're awake." Cormag said with almost no emotion.
"Ah!" I screamed, not knowing he was wake. "S-sorry, I was suppose to be watching you, but I fell asleep."
The blonde let out a small laugh. "Here you go princess."
"Hey, why are you laughing?!" I pouted.
"You do the cutest things."
"I-i do not!" I yelled, as I opened the package Cormag gave me.
In the package contained the pendant Ephraim gave me, and a rose carved out of wood.
"I was looking for this pendant all morning! And the rose, oh it's so beautiful! Thank you Cormag!"
"My pleasure princess."
Moulder entered the room to check on Cormag, whom he says condition was gotten worse.
"What do you mean his condition has gotten worse?!" I yelled.
"I'm sorry Lady Tana, but the wound has expanded. I must concoct a stronger medicine, but that may take awhile." He explained.
"But can't you just use a stave, to close the wound?!" I protested.
"No, the wound is too big. However, I can stitch him up for now if that's okay with Sir Cormag." The cleric said.
"How long will I be immobile? I have to get back to manning my wood shop back in Grado." Cormag asked.
"Do you have someone who can run the shop for you? I can't give you the exact time, but you should stay here for at least two more weeks." Moulder replied.
"Damn," Cormag cursed under his breath.
"I can take run the shop while you're gone." I volunteered.
"Princess Tana, do you even know how to go carpentry?" The blonde haired male laughed.
"Oh please! Most of your goods are already ready for sale are they not? Look, I can sell the items that you already crafted, and if anyone wants a special order I'll tell them that you'll return soon to complete their special orders."
"But princess, you know your father and King Innes would disapprove of your two week stay in Grado in its unstable state!" Moulder told me.
"My father and brother need to stop treating me as if I am a kid! I am a grown adult and a well trained knight of Frelia, who's capable of taking care of herself! I've made up my mind, and no one can stop me regardless of what they say!" I declared.
"You're very strong willed princess, I think I can feel safe with the shop in your hands." Cormag smiled.
It took a lot of persistence to persuade my father and elder brother to agree to me staying in Grado unaccompanied for two weeks, but I was victorious in getting their approval. I must say at first, I forgot about the differences in residing in a less fortunate area than living in a palace with servants aiding you with everything. Yet even though the living conditions weren't ideal, I learned a lot about the lands of Grado and it's people. Many of the customers that came by harbored bitterness and anger in their eyes. Whether or not it's because of the Frelian blood that flows through my veins, that I know not of. Nevertheless, I did not let the attitudes of the people sway me from my task of running Cormag's wood shop. Cormag is to return soon, and I must make sure his shop remains profitable!
<•>~<•>
Cormag's POV
Glen, I know I promised that the shop would be owned only by the two of us, but is it okay if it's owned by myself and someone else I believe I have developed feelings for? I promised that I would confide in you about any major steps in life I may take, so in this journal may I ask what do you think of me harboring affection for a woman of a different land? I fought against her during the war, which wasn't of any significance back then, but when the war ended and Grado was defeated, I saw her again. I haven't known the princess long, and yet I desire to be with her. Her very presence eases the pain of loneliness and depression vested deep within me. I find how persistent she is and her ignorance in the basic things rather cute. I wish you were here brother, but sadly you're not; therefore, I must act on my own and follow what my heart thirsts for.
- Entry #128
I closed the cover to the journal I kept since Glen's death. I await further instruction from the cleric called Moulder, who has been tending to my wound for the last 13 days. Today if I am told by Moulder, I should be able to return to Grado. I pray that all is well in Grado, and that the Princess Tana is handling everything okay.
"Sir Cormag, it appears as if your wound is healed. However, I'd recommend you participate in no strenuous activities at least for the next week or so." The cleric announced as he entered the room.
"Alright, thank you. I'll be off now." I said as I walked out the room i was staying in to go get my wyvern.
"You better treat my sister well." I voice said.
King Innes of Frelia emerged from the pillar he was hiding behind.
"I will," I smiled.
"Good answer; however if you should fail to treat her well, the next arrow I shoot will bury you with the rest of Grado's fallen." The king made himself clear as he walked away.
The princess and the king...such polar opposites.
1 Year Later
"Cormag, breakfast is ready!" I heard my wife call.
"You didn't burn the water this time right?" I laughed.
"Cormag! Stop teasing me about that!" Tana whined.
After I recovered from my wound a year ago, I returned back to my wood shop. The Frelian princess kept her word, and efficiently ran the shop. However, the princess of Frelia did not want to return to her homeland. She said she enjoyed the freedom of living outside of the castle, and she wanted to continue working at my shop.
At first I turned her down, but eventually I gave in due to her constant badgering. Then after months of living together, we started dating, and then got married. We now run the wood shop together and renamed it T&C's Wood. We also recently just gave birth to our first child. In remembrance of my brother, we named our child Glen.
"Thanks for the breakfast Tana, I'll be off to go collect some more wood now." I informed my wife.
"Alright, I'll hold down the fort while you're gone! Oh, can you get Glen some diapers while you're out?" My wife asked.
"He's out already? Oh, alright. I'll be back in a couple of hours."
"Okay, love you honey~" Tana kissed me on the cheek.
"Love you too," I return the kiss before I mounted my wyvern and flew off.
I'm so glad I have a family again.
Mother, father, brother, I hope you are watching me.
