Chapter 11
"Can you check up with Zion and Preston please? Serial has my phone." I whispered to Felik.
"Rei already has them on the road until things calm down, she's still asleep."
I sighed in relief and focused back on Carter and the men in the room. Serial stood in the back, waiting for Carter to make a move with the rest of Derek's men.
Vice was brought to consciousness by his men, no doubt they all would be doubt to after all this is done since they failed to protect him.
"Rei, please." A man pleaded as Carter stared at him emotionless.
He didn't seem like the kind to like begging, as much as the men begged for Carter to spare them. It only pissed him off more. Carter pulled the knife he had caught earlier from his suit jacket and held it to one of the threes neck.
"No, Rei-"
Just like that, the three men who once flanked Derek fell dead. Blood poured from their necks, Carter moved so fast it was like a blur.
"Deal to the rest of his men." Carter nodded to Messiah and the rest of my security team. "The rest of you get the fuck out of here."
Messiah and Felik moved in on Derek's men and dragged them into one of the rooms. The remaining men submitted to Carters command and left in a rush with or without the women they had arrived with.
Once the room was cleared out, leaving me, Carter, Vice, Kai and Serial, Carter picked Vice up by the neck and started laying into him, his punches were loud and ear deafening.
"Serial." I pleaded for him to do something but he only shook his head, warning me not to go anywhere near Carter.
"Carter! Stop, you're going to kill him." I rushed down the steps, stepping over the dead bodies. "I can watch you kill other people but I can't watch you kill him." I pulled him off of Vice and wrapped my arms around his torso.
"He made a deal with Derek, they agreed for you and his Grandson to marry. Vice tried backing out after I found out. I told him to sort this shit out before we landed in Mexico or else I was going to put him and his sons six feet under." He explained, resting his chin on the top of my head. "That's why his sons never showed, they'll be laying on the floor next to their father."
"He tried to marry me off?" I said in disbelief.
"Yes, he had everything planned. From start to finish." Carter nodded to Kai to take care of Vice. "I didn't necessarily save him from Derek, I wanted him to die at my hands."
"Carter." I sighed heavily.
"He planned to persuade you into staying here with them, Derek was going to get his grandson to meet you and hoped that you fell for him." He continued to explain. "He clearly didn't think you were worth more since he made a deal with someone who doesn't even hold a title."
I remained quiet, lost in thought at the news. I didn't think Vice would ever do that to me.
"Fuckhead hasn't even put two and two together yet, you're pretty much engaged to the Italian Don." He lifted my hand and pointed to the ring on my finger.
"I haven't heard from him in almost a year." I sighed. "I wouldn't even say he's my boyfriend anymore."
"Don't do that." He shook his head.
"Do what?" I frowned.
"That sad thing, I don't like it when you do that." He patted my back.
"What? Afraid of seeing me heartbroken?" I teased.
"You're heartbroken? Jesus, I can deal with anything but I can't deal with that." He paced back and forth.
I laughed, watching him walk back and forth in thought. "Not funny irmãzinha." He scowled. "Lets go, I'm sure you want to see Beau."
Kai returned moments later, refusing to get in a car with Serial again. "He's scary and I think he hates me." He exclaimed, pushing me to Serials passengers side and jumping into Carters car.
"I'm definitely killing him." Carter grunted. "I'm sorry you had to see all of that." He kissed the side of my head.
I got into Serials car and switched on the AC to warm the car. Carter and Serial spoke for a while, more of the talking done by Carter as Serial nodded along.
"Cold?" He asked as he got into the driver's seat.
"Something like that." I yawned.
I fell into my thoughts, replaying tonight's events and the information Carter had told me.
"What are you thinking?" Serial pulled off the highway and parked up in a deserted area that was lit by a lone streetlight.
"Wouldn't you like to know." I unclipped my seatbelt and got out of the car.
He followed, shrugging his suit jacket off and draping it over my shoulders, his cologne engulfed me, strong and masculine.
I didn't know why we were here and not on our way to Vices, I trusted Serial so I went with whatever was going on. I wanted to ask but I knew better and decided against it.
"I would like to know." He sat back on the hood of the car like I did.
"Honestly, everything." I pulled my phone from his jacket and sent a text to Zion. The text back was instant with a video of Beau eating ice cream and fries in the backseat with Preston. I laughed at the video and sent a text back. It was 12am but I couldn't be mad at them for feeding her ice cream even if I wanted to.
"Can you be more specific?" He finally said.
"No." I laughed. "There's so much going on, I wouldn't even know where to start."
"We have time Ava."
"That was my polite way of telling you I don't want to talk about it Serial." I sighed, side glancing at him.
He stared at the side of my head, any sane person would have been creeped out by him but I didn't know if I was actually sane right now.
"Do I make you nervous Ava?" He moved closer to me, his face a breath away from mine.
"No." I said truthfully.
"What's your secret Ava?" He stared at me with his eyes in slits.
"Depends which one you're asking about." I handed his jacket back.
"There's more than one?"
"You tell me." I pulled the drivers door open. "I'm driving."
I waited for him to get into the passenger seat before I threw the car in reverse. The tires screeched as I slammed down on the brakes and waited for him to pull himself up right.
"You know how to drive?" He asked, raising a brow.
"Of course I do, knives aren't the only things I love." I threw the car in drive and drifted back onto the highway.
"Who are you?" Serial watched me with hawk eyes. "You don't seem like the innocent little girl Carter described."
"I'm offended, I am innocent." I smirked, over taking the police in front of us.
"Are you sure about that?" He called over the loud rev of the motor.
I pushed the car higher as I downshifted,
I watched Carter and Serial on the way to the fight club. No police made a move to stop them even though they were breaking over twenty laws going down this same highway.
Perks of being or running with crime lords, there's no limits nor is there any rules. It's just one hundreds all the way.
We arrived at Vices soon after, his house was like a fort-trace, covered by men walking in groups of three patrolling their designated areas.
We had to go through two steel gates to get into the property. We parked and a SUV pulled up behind us, Zion and Preston got out with Beau who was still wide awake.
"Mummy!" She smiled, handing her iPad over to Preston.
"Thank you guys." I pecked Zion and Preston on the cheek.
"I missed you." She smeared kisses all over my face.
"I missed you too." I laughed returning them. "Look at your eyes, you're so tired."
"Tired?" She tilted her head.
"Tired." I nodded, repeating the word in Portuguese.
The guards standing at the front doors of the house watched me carefully as I passed them with a smile. One made a move to say something but decided against it and stepped back into his place.
"Oh gosh, you're really his." An elderly woman rushed towards me and Beau as I stepped inside the house.
I stood awkwardly patting her back as she clung to me and Beau. Beau stared at me with wide eyes as she pointed down to the stranger. I tried my hardest not to laugh at the face Beau was pulling but failed miserably.
"I can't believe it, you look just like him and Ms. Monrovian." The elderly woman cried. "You're so beautiful."
"Thank you?" I replied awkwardly.
"I'm sorry, I'm one of their maids." She sniffled. "I've been working here since your father was a teenager."
"That's a long time." I smiled down at her. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Ava and this is Beau."
"She's gorgeous." She pinched Beaus cheek. "I'm Anne."
"Ava." Kai waved us over.
Vice' home was beautiful, even though the house was pristine, you could tell it was very much lived in. Portraits and family art were hung on the walls, I spotted my father in some of the photos but not many.
"Everyone is in here." Kai lead me to a big room.
Once I entered people stared, I wasn't familiar with everyone in the room but I remember some of the faces.
"Everyone this is Ava, Hayze' and Maya's daughter." A woman stood and made her way over to me.
I recognized her, May. My fathers sister.
"They already know who she is, you just gave them a whole speech about her." Carter snapped from his position leaning against the wall.
"I suppose I did." May said awkwardly.
"Her name is not Ava, her name is Versana." A man stood and made his way towards me slowly. "Don't look so surprised, you already knew this Versana."
